Just me or is there a lot of new posters with negative remarks now that we are edging closer to the fight?

Perfectly entitled to express their opinion of course but it's typical Irish begrudgery for the most part.
Always like this leading up to a fight

Then he wins and they disappear until the next fight.

    I wouldn't say it's begrudery ,
I'm a Conor fan but its pretty easy to see why some people wouldn't like him,
Personally I think if he gets it out of round 2 Conor wins can't see Mendes haven the gas tank for 5 rounds on short notice,

Id actually pick Mendes to win if they both had full camps,
It'll be interesting to see how Conor deals with the power of Mendes who is the best athlete he has faced in the UFC but again he wont be at 100% on 2 weeks notice,

Good to get clarity from Aldo. The images will now hopefully end the inane and near insane 'fear was a factor' rants.

His statement descends into weirdness though when he mentions 'almost' defending his belt 3 times a year. He seems to look for praise for 'almost' doing something. Odd...

    Once again you're confusing things

One person called aldo out on this thread for those comments

I take it like me the rest don't care about them as they don't care about conors antics or comments outside of the ring

I love watching him fight that's all I care about

If You care more for his comments than his fighting then I don't need to say anymore.

I dont care more for his comments than his fighting, im as big a fan as anyone here.

But sometimes the arse licking goes too far and people arent calling things rationally when McGregor is involved

He wouldn't be far off it. He would have been preparing for this scenario months ago especially with aldos track record.

It's to be expected. McGregor is marmite. You either you love him and his schtick or you hate him and want to see him taken down several pegs.

and how would you know? acting like you have some sort of deep insight into why people in Ireland arent falling over themselves to lick McGregor's hole.

Maybe its to do with the fact they think he's full of ****, mouthy, paints the country in a bad light & will get his ass handed to him on the 11th.

Paints the country in a bad light!

    LOL

People are entitled to dislike Conor. I have plenty of friends who do and I can see why people might not like him although it seems to be the hip thing to do at the moment. He's there to sell fights and he's the best in the game at doing so presently. If you can't see that well that's your issue.

Paints the country in a bad light? Sounds like jealousy to me.

Hope he wins on the 11th and secures a stadium show in Croker. Would be great for the country if he managed it.

Surely not? This live performance stuff is horrible for fight entrances.

Think the klitschko's have had rock bands play them in before and it was horrible.

Surprised the UFC would allow it although I did see Dana say before that he's a big fan of Sinéads.

This has the makings of a truly boring fight... I mean it could be terrific if McGregor can stop Mendes taking it to the ground but that's all he's going to do, all match. He's going to look to tie McGregor up (good luck with that) or grab a single or shoot for a double and wrestle-fnck him to death. That's not a bad plan for Mendes, its clearly the safest route for him but it doesn't make for interesting viewing.

Alternatively McGregor stuffs his take downs and tees off on him like we saw with Brandao but I think this is a lot less likely.

I really wish Aldo was fighting, it would have been a much more interesting fight to watch. I'm glad they are putting up an interim belt, the whole thing with Aldo stinks.

I was watching aldo v mendes 2 last night and then I watched McGregor v brimage right. Now if you look at brimage, that guy was steaming at McGregor until he got caught behind the ear, . up until then he was flyin after McGregor and throwing nice double punches followed by leg kick combos. Now I'm not comparing the two, but mendes was throwing the exact same at aldo, doing well too. I'm wondering if he does it on McGregor for lack of being able to take em down, will he fall as per brimage.

Before you'z start with the whole there's no comparison between the two, I know that but it did give me pause for thought. I see in one exchange verbally garreth davies allowed the two a minute to cross swords on the air and the first thing medes said was "hey conor, have you heard of wrestling?".

I think this is a hint as to which way he intends to go. so if he concentrates on this next week and fails??? with conors reach and hand speed, I think mendes will come up short with that plan and be left floundering. if it comes to a boxing match, I can see mendes losing, that's IF!

for the record I'm a big best man should win on the night, not a Conor McGregor fan.

Mendes said last night he's going for the takedown and is gonna submit conor

That's his gameplan and has said it all along.

Mendes talking about talking it to the ground is one thing. Doing it is another. I am sure he will try for takedowns but hes trying to get conor to think about that only and take his mind off the stand up

Anybody listen to the conference call last night

When he was asked about the rumoured injury he's carrying he wasn't convincing in denying it

Didn't deny it just said my body is good.

Definitely think he is carrying that knee injury.

Thought the same myself. Just watched the embedded though and he wasn't holding anything back with the kicks etc.

Its like Ronda and armbars... like, is *anyone* going to be shocked if she judo flips an opponent and goes for an armbar? Knowing its coming and stopping it are two different things :)

I guess on the plus side, we get to see how good Conor is at take down defence and getting back up (very good would be my guess)... and how good his BJJ off/def is (not at UFC level is my guess). I'm hoping exposure to Paddy and Gunnar will have sharpened the latter.

On the other side of the fence, we get to watch Mendes get lit up (potentially).

the downside to all of this is no matter what happens the whole godawful McGregor love/hate thing will trundle on. If he wins, they'll say it wont count because of the short notice, the interim belt, the rib etcetc... If he loses it will prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's a fake and a phoney and cant wrestle and yadda yadda yadda...

I suppose it was one of our own who said: "the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about"... :/

Mendes is a whole different ball game to anyone Conor has faced in the past. He will either be exposed, or put on a classic where he keeps his distance and takes Mendes apart. I can see it ending early both ways.

If Conor'a knee is bad, and I mean if, I doubt he'd be too excited about a fight that is going to be primarily grappling/wrestling on the mat, will he?

I think his ridiculous reach advantage and his quick movement will help him a lot, tbh, but even still.

    what's he gonna do though

Pull out or moan about it after the aldo situation?

Ah, I know. If its true, I've no doubt it'll be mentioned as a throw away comment after the fight in some fashion.

Just speculating as to how much it might effect him, really. Not gonna use it as an excuse, though. Certainly not when he was demanding Aldo fights, and when you consider how little preparation time Mendes has gotten.

Looking forward to this fight more and more now after the initial disappointment.

Where have these knee rumours come from ?

Im sure if he had a knee injury he would of pulled out when Aldo did.

No amount of Irish fans going over would force an injured pro athlete to fight and scupper his chances of fighting for a title

heard it while back about stem cell on his knee

Reporter from indo put it to him last night saying is it true

All he repeated was my body is good.

Remember he was carrying an injury going into the Dustin fight and we only found out after.
