Any idea of the reaction from Mma fans from Brazil on Aldo dropping out?

Jesus Christ, this thread is like a schoolyard at times.

This is not the cycling forum.
It is also not the spelling forum.
It's also not the running and athletics forum.
And it's not After Hours either.

This is the MMA forum. Where we discuss...you know...mma?

From now on, either you discuss all things mma like a grown up, or you go do it elsewhere. If you want to throw around stupid comments that make zero sense, or if you want to belittle someone else's opinion, then there are other forums on the internet where you can do it. If you feel the need to act like a twat, then this is not the right forum for you.

Just wondering will Mendes get all of Aldo's fee and Aldo nothing?

Or does anyone know how the finances will be broken down.

I watched the MMA hour with John Kavanagh and Ariel was asking did McGregor re-negotiate his fee with the change in opponent, which is something I never even thought of myself.

Mendes won't get the same amount as Aldo, but will probably get taken care of though but nobody knows the specifics yet (or ever). Aldo won't get a penny.

rightly so for aldo. i read a couple of days back that mendes was gettin paid wheather aldo showed or not. he'll get a decent sum im sure, theirs not many more that would have provokd such interest or provided a decent challange in light of aldos exit.

    Yeah brutal quality.
There's nothing new in the call anyway so far. Basically the same questions that have been asked a million times already.
Lawlor & MacDonald barely getting a look in.

It's incredible how ignored Lawler and MaDonald are. Real pity.
Conor sounds tired and hangry - guess he must be though, it's a tough promotional schedule.

Yeah, Aussie journo was put back in his box fairly rapid!! Funny.

I really respect the way he wants to fight in the 3 arena! Not a bit of him getting too big for his boots, if it's back in Dublin he wants to be there regardless of venue! Credit given where credits due!

MacDonald/Lawler being asked no questions so Gus Ryan from the Indo asks "One for Rory: What do you think of Conor?" :D

Must be headwrecking for those two in all honestly, huge fight and it's getting completely overlooked.

I know before I say it I'm wrong but imagine if he fought at Lightweight for the Dublin card. Anderson Silva was allowed move up weight class for certain fights

Yeah im fairly sure he wanted a different answer, fair play to Conor i compleatly understand his reasoning if hes doing a stadium show he wants it to be in Dublin thats quality.

This conference call is like Crocodile Dundee 4 with all the Aussie questions.

I don't know if those two would be all that worried. Conor hypes the card enough for all of them and they can focus on their title fight.

I wouldn't have any issue with that! I'd like to see how he fares at 155 in the UFC! He's fairly big compared to all the featherweights. if he's as good as he lets on and makes it through Mendes i reckon he'll go through Aldo too so it makes sense for him to move up. No harm seeing how he fares in that division a little early

Total noob question, hope you don't mind....

Is there much difference in styles between Mendes & Aldo? And if so, will this have much of an impact for Conor considering his training has probably been tailored to deal with Aldo?

    Thanks.

Aldo is more of a Muay Thai fighter and Mendes has more of a wrestling background but to be honest both are fairly well rounded at this stage!

Really like Rory McDonald, always speaks honestly and intelligently and seems like a really good dude! He was excellent on the Joe Rogan podcast

Pity all this has happened. I only realised Aldo was out today as I've been travelling. I think Mendes is a worse match up for Conor but overall doesn't have the same ability as Aldo, it's annoying as I can see Mendes winning and it becoming difficult for Conor to get back in this position. It'll be a cracking fight though, definitely see Mendes using more wrestling.

It's crazy tbh considering there's going to be 4 cards in 8 days but I suppose it makes more sense to have it on this card
been looking forward to this fight every bit as much esp since aldo dropped out

love robbie lawler but rory is the future of the division imo

    Statement from Aldo

For three months, I trained three times a day. I invested my time and money, bringing training partners from Brazil and other countries, to do the best training camp of my life so I would be ready to defend by belt for the eighth time on July 11. Unfortunately, I fractured my rib during a training session, which I can prove from an official medical report, and besides trying my best to fight, I was forced the other way and that made me really sad. Only I, my family, coaches and teammates know how hard I worked to represent Brazil again.

My decision was made in respect to the UFC and the fans that today see me as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. I couldn’t fight without being 100 percent physically and with a rib injury that could get worse if I got hit in the ribs. Many people told me to fight anyway because of the money I could make, but I wouldn’t sell myself for any money, no matter how much. I fight for love and I do it for my country. Money comes in second place, it’s like a shadow: when you try catching it, you can’t, but when you move forward, it follows you. Money ends some day, but legacy and things you do becomes part of the history, and that’s what I value the most.

I’m the UFC champion since April 2011, defended my belt seven times in four years, and will do it for the eighth time in 2015, an average of twice a year. And I’m not even mentioning WEC, a Zuffa-owned company, like the UFC, where I became the champion in 2009 and put my belt on the line twice in less than a year. That why I can’t agree with UFC’s decision to have an interim champion in my division citing the five opportunities that I couldn’t defend my belt.

If those fights had occurred, I would have done 12 title fights in four years in the UFC, an average of three fights a year, something that no other UFC champion did. A UFC champion rarely does three title defenses in one year. So that can’t be the main reason why they are creating an interim title, but the UFC is a private company which I work for, so I can’t complain about its decision, but I can’t say I agree either.

As of my opponent, who told me to step up and fight like a man, I can’t say anything about a man that imitates a TV series character (Travis Fimmel, from Vikings). That’s really who he wanted to be, because he’s probably ashamed of being who he really is, so he imitates his lines, his style and this actor’s tattoos. He’s an artist, but not from martial arts, but cheap comedy. It’s disrespectful with the actor, and with real athletes. He should look for a stage and not an Octagon. The Octagon is my kingdom and there’s place for only one king, which is me. If he wants to participate, he can be the joker he already is.

If he beats Chad Mendes, the only thing he will have is a toy belt to show his friends, drunk in his country’s bars, because that’s what an interim belt represents to me: a toy. I am the champion.

    What a tit
