    Strummer? Living?

Sleep deprivation is my excuse for this shame.

    Lemmy!

In truth there are no greatest living rock stars who are in the here and now, its just a bunch of no mark fellas and girlies with annoying trilling vocals courtesy of autotune.

Springsteen. West is a fraud with rubbish songs to back up his bad boy image.

Self praise is no praise. Watched Kanye last night, was alright. Most of it was mimed, and the lights were too distracting. And with all his money, could he not get a trousers to fit him?
He's a self absorbed eejit, he should feck back to Murica and annoy them.

Roger Waters is one of the greatest living Rock stars alive today.

The thread title contains the words Rock Star, has the rock music genre been totally lost on some people..
Kanye is a hip-hop rapper, that is not rock music ffs.

Have to give Kanye credit where it's due, fans of his loved the set and are talking about him today, people who hate him watched it anyway and are talking about it as well. Even if you hate the man he's on your mind :pac: Plus he must be doing something right if he's been working with Paul Mccartney & getting heavily rated by Lou Reed before he died, just a few of the 'Rock stars' who have nothing but praise for him. I can't post links yet but Google Lou Reed Yeezus.

Anyway as far as the greatest living rockstar goes it's Prince, clearly.

West is a zero, a pugnacious looking nothing.

Springsteen or Dickinson for me. Roger Daltrey, Bowie, Jagger, Lemmy and Angus Young get honourable mentions.

    David Bowie, obviously.
I love Bowie, but he wasn't even on my radar, as I would never have called him a rock star.

The Kanye West thing really disturbs me, I thought he was universally hated by anybody actually into music. I recently heard 2 people I know who are into music who listen to him, the admitted he is an annoying prick but said the music is good. I was really shocked, I thought they were being sarcastic. I thought the only buyers of his shite would be american idiots into generic poppy crap.

A guy I know recently said he cannot name a Kanye song, and neither can I, its not just names I couldn't hum a tune. I used to be big into rap, and still listen to old stuff a lot and 1 or 2 new guys. I could never understand the appeal of Kanye or 50cent, nothing distinct about their voices and the tunes are just forgettable muck.

Because of the way the music industry operates today I do know one thing,, you all better choose your "Living legends" quick because it certainly aint producing Legacy holders anymore!! Im no big fan but I was walking through a shopping centre at christmas and notice two calendars side by side in a shop window, I said to my daughter, "In thirty to forty years do you think a one direction calendar will be placed next to whoever the popular artist will be in thirty to forty years from now??? The two calendars side by side were of "one direction & Elvis" !!!,,,, too be honest those two names should not be in the same sentence!!!

    Morrissey.....

Some have him pegged as a miserable git, probably true.

But as a lyricist with great stage presence, he really stands out.

Neatly explaining why he's so popular at Glastonbury...
I would have said Bowie a few years ago, but he hasn't been the same since the dickey ticker. Springsteen for me even though I'm no fan.

Er, this is the Lulu Reed who was saying he was great? Lou's taste had gone to utter crap near the end. Wouldn't use him as evidence of anything!

    Dave Grohl....
    Breaks leg on stage.
    Leaves for treatment.
    Returns to finish set.

    ROCKSTAR
The singer in Lamb of God murdered somebody half way through the set and still finished the show. Now that's rock star.

Surprised there's not more mention of Slash
    Instantly recognisable Rock star
But the true rock star has to be Lemmy
It's unfortunate most people see Ozzy as a lampooned character when in fact he's a real rock god

Of those still working it? The old guy brigade would be Jagger and Lemmy. Jagger has a fame level that's nigh on beyond measure and still has the chops in his 70's. Of the younger types(though not by that much) The Boss of course and Bono has to be well up there. Hell it's his profile on Apple's iTunes icon list for "artists". I'd have a shout out for Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode too. All of the above can work a crowd of any size into a frenzy. More they can work up crowds that aren't necessarily their fans. Put it another way, vanishingly few out there would want to follow any of the above onto the stage. "You're up next after U2/Springsteen/The Stones". *uncontrollable dysentery time*.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

I would give a vote for Lemmy as well, but Jagger and the Stones can F#@k right off in my book after what they did to Richard Ashcroft and the Verve.

It's too hard for me to decide on the greatest living rock star. But one thing I am certain about is, Kanye West is the greatest bollocks on the planet.
