I'd have Clyne over Debuchy any day. Probably Coleman too, going off last season's form, although that one is more debatable.

Lots of those on the list had worse seasons than Clyne last year. Only Azpilicueta was better imo.

And Ivanovic, even though I'm not his biggest fan it was his best season for us by a long shot.

Sagna on form, Walker maybe too is at least as good and I've heard Clyne is having trouble displacing him in the England team.

I like Janmaat too, looks like he could be in a 5th-8th place team

Jesus wept!!! Walker is atrocious and Sagna hasn't been on form in about 3 years.

I think Walker is a good enough player tbh, challenging for Europa places is about his level

Di Maria looked like a poor mans Joe Cole at times last season and starred in a World Cup and champions league campaign 12 months before

Righ, but we're hardly talking about a bunch of Di Marias here. There's not much to choose between all of them.

Didn't you want Utd to sign Clyne a few months back or am I mistaken ?

I still wouldn't mind signing Clyne depending on the alternatives, as I said he's a good player

Liverpool will be a team of shortasses next season at the rate they're going.

Maybe he's trying to recreate the Barcelona model?!!

Kyle Walker is absolutely stealing a living as a footballer. Clyne is better than him but he's nothing to get excited about either. He started last season well but it tailed off for him as the season went on probably because of his contract situation and the fact that he had absolutely no competition.

I would hope that we could attract a better right back than Clyne tbh. The premier league is full of average full backs.

Clyne is much better positionally than Walker. Also Zabeleta was very poor last year. Debuchy is just ok.

Walker is one of the most brainless overated English players out there. Don't confuse hodgson blindness with clyne not been able to displace walker.

Your underselling of him does come across as being motivated by where he's going to be honest.

Hes a good bit off being called one of the best RBs in the league tbh, very premature

And I'd say the same if United signed him up tomorrow, is Shaw one of the best left backs in the league?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,846 ✭✭✭Moneymaker

Janmatt is better then most right backs in the league. I'd have him over Clyne though its much of a muchness.

Now, lets hope none of the big clubs realise that and continue to ignore him :pac::pac:

No, but eh Clyne is alot better than Shaw and I don't see what would lead you to answer that question.

Clyne is one of the best RBs in the league (top 3 if you exclude Azpi considering he doesn't play there) and you wouldn't be suggesting otherwise if he wasn't joining Liverpool.

Walker?? He's a liability defensively. Clyne is miles better than him. He's definitely in the top 4 RB's in the league and on form even higher. I'm surprised people putting Ivanovic better than him at right back too.

Janmaat was very good in his first season in the Premier League, certainly the "best of the rest" last year anyway.

Yeah I'm not having that, what are you basing it on last season?

Shaw in 13/14 was better than any of Clynes seasons so far for Southampton imo and being 5 years younger than Clyne only made it more impressive, I suppose the reason Chelsea, United, Arsenal and Liverpool all reportedly wanted him for 30 million

Anyway the point is I rate Shaw better than Clyne and I wouldn't say he's one of the best in the league, so you're trying and failing to make me look like biased

You're making yourself look biased with a post like that. I'd be surprised if even Shaw himself rates himself more highly than Clyne.

I would have said that Shaw was more highly rated than Clyne before last season. Hence the big fee. Clyne won't go for 30m.

I said the same a couple of weeks ago when Liverpool weren't in the picture for Clyne and United were favourites

His age was a big factor in that and Clyne only having a year left on his contract apparently will mean he won't go for anything like his true value.

His age plus his prodigious talent at such an age. He had a better season than Clyne in 13/14 and is much younger.

Contract or not, Clyne wouldn't command the same fee and he's not exactly an oldie that you'll be worried about the legs going in three years.

That said, I really rate Clyne so not going to argue too much.

4 extra years would bump up a fee a good bit though. It's a long time in football. I wouldn't agree on Shaw ever being better than Clyne, I don't really rate him, but obviously he has all the time in the world to improve.

Shaw made team of the year that season, he was better than Clyne and Clyne still hasn't had a season as good as Shaw did that year imo

Who do you think is the better player, Shaw or Clyne?

For me it's Clyne no question. People don't realise how consistent he's been over the past few years, he made a brilliant decision to go to Southampton when he did and his game has improved every year.

Dmitri Payet has joined West Ham it appears. Just under eleven million pounds. Will have a medical on Friday. Most assists in Ligue 1 last season.
