Is there a written or unwritten law that says weddings have to be on a Friday or Saturday?
No wonder Hotels are booked up.

No rule. But have a wedding on any other day but saturday and people end up bitching about you behind your back for 'making me take a day off work'.
Cant please them all. I had mine on a friday, and a satuday!

Yeah. An unwritten one, based on common sense.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, thinks weddings on any other day suck. It forces guests to waste holidays to go to an event that they see as a chore anyway, and it is a bit inconsiderate by the couple. By all means have the day on a Thursday - and I have gritted my teeth and gone to a Thursday wedding - even ask people along, but just know that every single one of them is muttering under their breath that it just sucks. It can also look a bit cheap.

Had ours on a Thurs...wasn't universally popular but it saved us a fortune and the people that mattered were there.

I thought i was getting married on a Saturday for about three weeks. It wasn't until we gave the date to the hotel that i realised it was on a Friday. Hope i remember to show up.

A total of one person took time off work - my maid of honour. It was a small wedding though, >20 people.

Married on a Tuesday. Most people were off work anyway, as it was the Tuesday between Xmas and NY.

I think having it mid week is a great way to get rid of the people you have to invite but dont really want there. Anybody who is very close to you wouldn't miss your wedding for the world.

I've been invited to mid week weddings for friends and didn't mind at all - it certainly beats being in work, and for anyone whose wedding I wasn't pushed about attending I had the perfect excuse of not being able to get the day off!

I don't think I've ever been to a wedding that's been on a weekend.

Presumably it's too difficult to get weekend dates unless you're willing to wait for a year or two longer

Or pay the big money! Hotels will also put you on a cancellation list if you dont mind arranging your wedding with less than optimal notice.

The only wedding I've been to that wasn't a Friday or a Saturday was one that took place in abroad and it was a Thursday, everyone going to the wedding took the week off and all spent it in the place the wedding was happening and basically made a week long wedding out of it.

Every other one has been a Friday or Saturday with most being Saturdays and I've been to 8 in the last year and more to come all set for Fri or Sat.

The year before last had 12 weddings, went to 11. The one we missed was midweek...and in France.

Of the 11, 9 involved hotel stays as they were "away".

One was on a Sunday, due to a family tragedy it had to be put back and they could only get a Sunday. Which was a first for me.

Very expensive year.

Time suited us. Most of my friends/colleagues were either off work or were living very close to where we had the wedding.
People can always decline an invite.

I'm guessing you haven't been to too many weddings then? The large majority (from around 50) of the ones I've been at have been on weekends, and my own upcoming one is on a Saturday as well.

Friday weddings are fine too, but ones on Monday-Thursday, especially if you aren't really good friends with (or it's through your partner) are a pain. At the end of the day though it's down to the preference/circumstances of those getting married and no one is forced to come.

Been to plenty. Almost all of them on Thursdays.

Though now I think of it I believe one of them was a Friday actually.

I know somebody that had their wedding on the 2nd January and I think it was a weekday as well.
