Thanks Bonedigger, although can't claim responsibility for find as it was BSBI recorder Paul Green who saw it first.

I watched a Fox family (an adult and two cubs) frolic about a grass meadow yesterday afternoon. The youngsters had great fun chasing butterflies. I got rather lucky when one of the cubs came within feet of me.

Adult fox(it looks like a dog fox?):

I was pottering about the garden this morning when my eye was caught by something whizzing about the perennials at lightning speed. I dashed into the house to get the camera, full sure it would be gone by the time I got back, but to my delight it decided to stay for a short time giving me a chance to get the images below. It was feeding on Red Valerian (Centranthus ruber).

    Hummingbird Hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum)

Brilliant pics, Bonedigger. Thanks for the link, Keps! What I find fascinating about this moth is it's tail! It also has very pronunced eyes!

BTW, is there a way of tagging members on this site?
