You should hit at least 70, but wait till all your neighbors get installed to see.

One or two more installations will definitely bring the speed down. I think I was the first install on my cab way back when and the attainable pre vectoring was insanely high...I think maybe 140m/bit IIRC. Keep checking your stats over the coming weeks.

Will keep an eye on it - how do I check the attainable speed on a vodafone modem.

I will know my line atten later tonight or possibly tomorrow when line goes active . Thought i would get more than 40 @ 300-350 meters hope to christ she doesnt nose dive like preatorian has reported. ( I jump from 17 MB to 20MB at the new address but no modem hooked up to read the stats )

I currently get 17MB from a 24MB direct from exchange ADSL connection.

My line checker for fibre says my download on fibre wil be 12MB. Surely this cannot be correct can it?

It can and that was the quoted speed another user got when he enquires about fibre.

I'm synced at 15 mbit with adsl and I can now get 12 mbit efibre. I'm not sure if I should switch or not. At the moment I do experience some congestion in the evening so maybe it would be worth the switch.

I'd definitely take a gamble on it. Likely you will get better upload speeds and the 12 figure could be conservative.

My line showing efibre available direct fed in Clonakilty.

Phoned up and said it is available on 15th of July. First time to get a data rather than vague 'by the end of the summer'.

It is estimated as being good for 40Mb

How far are you from the exchange ClonNGB?

As crow flies, 500m. but line attenuation of 14 indicates cable must be going around 1 km.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,322 ✭✭✭dbit

Id say if around 1 km you could be looking at 25 - 30 .

I finally can get efibre from my exchange , I'm just over 1KM from it they said my max speed will be 25Mb not bad .

My line attenuation is 18.2dB and and I'm getting 17 from 24MB.
As crow flies I'm 750 metres from exchange and engineer confirmed that the line takes a fairly direct route from exchange.

Surely 12MB maximum on efibre is a joke. I should be looking at 25MB??

Isnt the minimum under the NBP 30MB ?

How would that work out in reality ?

When the NBP comes into force, the minimum in the intervention areas (amber in the map) will be 30Mbps.

The areas not covered by the NBP (blue on the map) are covered by existing service providers who are providing a service - but I do not think that they are required to meet the 30Mbps minimum.

Areas with eFibre or getting it in future are excluded from the NBP, see the map http://www.dcenr.gov.ie/communications/communications+development/national+broadband+scheme.htm

The NBP specs only refer to specific areas not already covered by commercial companies. He has BB available to him so he wouldn't be covered by the NBP.

I'd say by the time the NBP is implemented we'll all be on FTTH. :)

This was one of the points raised by the lads from Munster Broadband and BBNet on Limerick 95FM earlier this week, there will be situations where connections in the blue areas could be on lower speeds than those in the surrounding NBP amber areas and under current plans the supplier is solely responsible to upgrade those urban areas.

You could have a choice of either Eircom or Siro fibre to the home before the NBP even starts depending on where you are located. Eircom are doing 66 towns, Siro 50 towns and both are already started.

What does "aaa" means in the eircom line checker

    aaa: "407501"
    completed: false
    county: "CORK"
    ina: false
    inga: true
    ingb: false
    isRedCustomer: false
    maxHSI: "50M_15M_R"
    maxNRA: "28M_16M_FR"
    message: "EXACT_MATCH"

I believe it's a line ID number. A kind of fake phone number.

Its the ARD key, specifies the address/residence within an address.
