Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hello,
I'm a newbie and hoping someone can help? I recently applied ( closing date was beginning of the month) for a police staff position, the application and equality form were submitted via email as outlined in the job description though I haven't received any sort of confirmation that my application has been received or saying that my application has been unsuccessful...I feel that I met both the essential and desirable criteria so finding it a bit disheartening that have heard nothing. are confirmation or 'you have been unsuccessful at this time...'emails normally sent?

I too had applied for a post closing at the start of last month. I thought I had been unsuccessful so I emailed them to check. They told me that they had received a large number of applicants and so were still processing them. That was about 3 weeks after the closing date.

Thanks for that .Q! I guess that no new is good news then. Fingers crossed

Just wondering if anyone applying for support staff gave heard anything? 6 weeks since the closing date- that's a long time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 Coconut82

I guess you should hear soon. I got a letter this morning and was unsuccessful. Letter said although I met the essential criteria, I didn't score high enough in desirable criteria to be invited for interview:( Hopefully you get better news!

Sorry to hear that. I am sure there is a similar letter waiting for me at home! By all accounts it was very popular.

They did say on letter due to high number of applicants they were unable to provide feedback which is a shame. But fingers crossed for you😊

Anyone know how they're notifying candidates for testing/interview?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,696 ✭✭✭Mop a top

My closing date was the first week of June. Haven't heard anything back at all to say I'm unsuccessful or invite to testing/interview. Don't know if no news is good news :/

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Joe_Bloggsy

Mop a top if your application for the Admin Support Officer which closed at start of June then you should receive email shortly regarding test.

I received my invite last night and it said everyone who submitted application would be invited but not to take the invite as word that the essential criteria had been met. Hope this helps.

Has anybody here applied for the recently advertised 'Custody Officer' roles, through Noonan?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,696 ✭✭✭Mop a top

Suited and booted or smart casual folks? Think in that heat I'm leaning towards the latter

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Joe_Bloggsy

Was casual for me. At least its only 2 weeks until we find out if we have made next stage :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,696 ✭✭✭Mop a top

I went casual too. Heard a lot of folk saying they only just got half of the last test done. Myself included :/

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Joe_Bloggsy

Im in the same boat, wouldn't think many got it finished.

The multiple options made that last section near impossible to guess correctly so it was better to get that 1 or 2 extra complete because they could make all the difference rather than waste time marking anything which I thought was a good thing compared to deloittes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,696 ✭✭✭Mop a top

Thank god for that!!! I was wondering if they were going to do negative marking. I was a good girl though I didn't guess any but I missed the last 5 on section 2 and like I said only got just over half way in 3. I thought I'd have struggled with the T/F/CT section more, I hated them at Deloitte, but I had time to recheck them so fingers crossed. Was a little surprised at the mix of candidates. More guys than I'd have thought but that's just me being sexist lol.

Wer u 1st session after lunch? Was a bit surprised myself, also surprised at the thousands applied remark. I submitted my application close to the deadline and have candidate number between 01700 and 01780 so hopeing its not much more considering only top 15-20% get through.

  • Registered Users Posts: 504 ✭✭✭Johannes_Cabal

Were these tests for support roles directly employed by the PSNI? As I have applied for a 'Custody Officer' role through Noonan/Resource and haven't heard anything so just curious.

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Joe_Bloggsy

Yeah this is for permanent Administrative Support Officers jobs in the PSNI, I can't say I have heard about the custody jobs. Was that for the prison service rather than PSNI?

Cheers dude, they were advertised last month and were only open for a week. It's assisting in the custody suites within PSNI stations. I think they were previously advertised as 'civilian detention officers'.

I was late afternoon. Funny standing looking at everyone wondering if I've been chatting on here to them and not knowing what they look like. My number is high 1800's :/

Must all depend on the agency dealing with that process, grafton recruitment dealing with the admin roles and seem to be on the ball and quick timeline it seems, Deloitte have been dealing with police constables roles the last few years and that seems to be a long process with some delays. I would maybe send an email to noonan/resource regarding your application and see if they can give you a rough timeline of their process or an update on your application.

Thanks, they did state that it would take approximately 4 weeks to process applications, it's still within that time frame so I'll give them a couple of weeks before I start harassing them.

Does everyone make it through to that stage? I'm not in this process so just enquiring

I think they said they will be taking between top 15-20% on to the second stage.

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Joe_Bloggsy

Also got the email inviting me to the final assessment, although no idea if it is similar to last assessment or what it involves as it does not state this and no attachments either, any ideas?

PSNI received merit list for this on Friday 4th as some people had been given 2 weeks to forward relevant documentation or they were to be withdrawn.

Grafton couldn't provide me with my position on merit list but said PSNI would be in contact. Anyone any idea how long this process normally takes for support staff? Would everyone expect vetting forms or top 120 on list for example?

Great news regarding new police constables opening soon :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 77 ✭✭Joe789

Happy days hopefully some people were withdrawn!

On the day they told us there would be 100 posts over a 2 year period and that there were 200 people at the second stage. I think they process in small batches. My partner did her vetting and substance misuse test after being on the list for ages but didn't get offered anything.

Fingers crossed for us though! Unfortunately she didn't make the list this time round.

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Joe_Bloggsy

Sounds good about the numbers who got to final stage. Not knowing position on merit list can be detrimental tho. Here is hopeing 2 boardies are in 1st call then. Applying for the new constable campaign starting soon anyway as no guarantees.

Letter in the post today to say due to budget constraints the list has been frozen and will only now be kept for a year. Same old same old!

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Joe_Bloggsy

    Same letter, absolutely gutted.

In regards to the budget restraints, surely they knew this 3-4 months ago so hard to understand but suppose we are in the same boat as some of the wannabe police constables from campaign 2 at the mo who scored well and put on hold while another campaign has been given the go ahead and a million pound paid for the honour id assume.

2,000 people disappointed by this ASO campaign from maybe missing out on each stage to the final stage making sure no1 potentially coming out happy from it all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 77 ✭✭Joe789

It is hard to understand. It was January that C2 was out on hold so budget constraints stretch as far back as that. Surely they would be able to figure out what they could and could not afford. I wonder if anyone has actually got a position out of this as the list would really have been live for a matter of weeks? To pull it that early means that the whole campaign was a waste. Really disheartening.

The life of the pool has gone from 2 years to 1. So in a years time after the possibility of not recruiting anyone do they advertise and go through the whole process again?

From the way the letter was worded I took that they had frozen the campaign before taking on anyone. One year merit list does not sound good taking into account the campaign being suspended and vetting could take 2 months on average.

Everyone and their dog knew over the last few years the PSNI and all government departments have had to make cutbacks and to continue to make savings for the next few years, surely this was taken into account already before they opened the campaign so they had money set aside and if 100 jobs were required then what is happening to that work?

I don't like to criticise anyone because I know some jobs are difficult and challenging but the PSNI had a 14million pound underspend last year which they could not transfer to this year, hopefully the people responsible can find the money originally allocated for these jobs.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 77 ✭✭Joe789

Yeh its not really criticizing. Just frustration at getting over all the hurdles to be told, sorry, not happening!

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Joe_Bloggsy

With the PSNI receiving at least an extra £160million over the next 6 years should we be expecting some movement on the ASO front after all it was frozen due to budget restraints.

Like I mentioned before we were in same position as some folks from campaign 2 who were told they were not being processed any further at that moment in time but have seen today some have received letters with good news so hopefully those who had passed all the stages for this process can be in line for some good news also.

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Joe_Bloggsy

Letter received at end Sept 15 saying campaign was frozen and a letter yesterday at end of Sept 16 saying I had not scored highly enough within merit list to be processed for appointment. Has anyone received a good news letter after all there was originally planned for 100 jobs and at least 65 had left there jobs since December 15 which did not include staff who left yesterday in the final tranche of Voluntary Exit Scheme.

Anyone know the difference in how PSNI cancelled temp staff contract with Grafton and having Noonan subcontracted to do the same? Are they classified as full-time staff with Noonan as a way around it even though it is the same and not committing the PSNI to permanent roles. Noonan forever advertising admin type roles which I making the news I received little bit more harder to take after all this time.

Same here for letters. Will be writing to them to clarify during the week. The second letter should have been clearer, unless some sort of error!

Yes they, are full time workers with noonan but are attached to the PSNI. So when resource lost the contract they moved from Resource to noonan but still attached to PSNI. This is an easy way around everything as they only pay noonan X amount and then noonan as an employer have to provide all the other things like holiday pay etc out of the X amount that they keep. Save PSNI a whole load of money and then when they decide to close stations or cut hours its just sorry bye !!

So apparently the merit list was initiated again in April!!! They have been working through it since and those "high" enough remain on the list, which has been extended, and the rest have been told they no longer remain on the list.

If you dont get into PSNI this time round its a good starting points to get to know the organisation and really see the job because without seeing it close up and in real life no one knows what the job is really like!!
