To me, it's just adopting a style, but I guess I might feel differently if I were a black person from the Deep South. I do agree otherwise though that this happens all the time, so why suddenly this Iggy lady. I'm thinking it's because she's Australian. I don't think an American chick, even as white and blonde as her, would get the same reception. Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, Britney... have all adopted black styles.

The worst you could accuse her of is being inauthentic, but it's nothing insidious.

The great thing about art, music, and culture is that it's never static. It's a living, breathing, morphing thing. And it's open to everyone.

Anyone comparing this to blackface is completely missing the point. Blackface was an active mockery of black people, i.e actually racist. The rapping? She's not trying to make fun of anyone, as far as I know. Actors often have to put on accents, is this really any different?

There is no such thing as black origin - if all you have in common with someone is your skin colour - you have nothing in common with them. All this it's great to be black, I love everything black, that you hear so much of from the states is total bollox, it's racist and it's bollox, plain and simple.
It's no less racist and no less asinine to love people just because they're black than it is to hate them for the same reason. It's disgusting in both directions.

Mainstream Western television. Turn on Nollywood or Bollywood and not a whitey to be seen. Europe is circa 90% white and America 70%. Of course there are going to be more whites than blacks on western tv.

As an aside, are there any foreigners or people of non Irish ethnicity employed by RTE? It doesn't seem to reflect the demographic reality of Ireland today. Very few of our media outlets do, now that I think of it.
