Not sure I would like Getaway

    Any reason?

Don't know I'd be in a rush to a son of Monsun but they are tough. Really like Dylan Thomas as a nh sire which is strange for a son of Danehill. Anyone else you're looking at

I think the danehill factor has a bit to westerners popularity too. Like Mahler a lot. Think he could be the next Fleminsfirth

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 793 ✭✭✭tatoo

I think the Westerners need a bit of time, distance and prob a bit of juice in the ground, his resurgence is due more to they really starting to hit the winners enclosure rather than any Danehill factor.
I suppose with so many Monsun grandsons around the pressure will be on them to deliver, though I see Arcadio had a very impressive winner of the Fairy house maiden hurdle today, on that note Gilgamboas win in the big rave gives Westerner another considerable boost.

Good results for Westerners over the last few days. And another national winner for Presenting

I see Oscar has been retired from stud duties. Will be a loss to the NH game

A promising first run from Only Mine, Pour Moi's first 2yo runner ( AFAICS ) in the 6f maiden at the Curragh today. Although he was beaten by about 6 3/4l in 4th he recovered from a poor start and finished strongly upsides O'Brien's $2,2m War Front Colt Air Vice Marshal.

Dylan Thomas with Pether's Moon and Dylan Mouth ( Italy ) takes 2 Gp1 races in as many days..

That's 3 individual GP1 winners so far for the year for him because Blazing Speed won a GP1 race in Sha tin in April.

A veryy good stallion for the NH sector and good value too. Anyone know what his wind was like?

Dylan Thomas is probably the best value stallion in the country

We just used Dylan Thomas twice last week for 2 of our mares, he really is cracking value.

Dubawi will be a very good sire for years to come.

Was looking back through this thread abd That is serious foresight. Nine g1 different winners this year and only going to get better. Cumani was right he is the next galileo.

Galileo is having a bit of a quiet year by his mega standards. Cape Cross and Dubawi are right on his tail for the Sires championship. If Golden Horn had run in and won the King George Cape Cross would be top of the table. O'Brien's 3yo Galileo's bar Gleneagles haven't been up to their usual Gp 1 standard.

I keep an eye on the pedigrees of the daily winners and Cape Cross and Dubawi were racking up the individual winners since Ascot while Galileo didn't seem to have a whole lot of runners in that period. That slight drought in Gailileo's runners and winners should end this week with a load of prize money up for grabs at Goodwood and Galway.

Where Galileo has the edge is with his Gp 1 2yo winners and his really top drawer horses. For all Dubawi's quality, there aren't too many Champions in his list of Gp 1 winners.

Coolmore have hit a sweet little earning streak with Canford Cliffs and Zoffany coming up trumps for them in the first season sires race. Coolmore needed something to take on all those precocious Zebedee and Dark Angel types.

That could change for dubawi in the next year or two. He is a good few years younger tgan galileo. Some serious types coming through. He will have both new bay and erupt in the arc and time test could be anything as welds filly last week also. Galileo is relying on gleneagles to fly the flag atm where as nine individual g1 winners around the world is some achievement only half way through the year.

He's more than a match for Galileo alright and he has year in year out consistency at the highest level something that none of the other challengers to Galileo has. Out of the other Dubawi's you mentioned, New Bay looked like an Arc winner but boy has his French Derby form been let down. The only thing stopping me dismissing the ridiculous hype around Time Test is his trainer, that race he won was well below the standard of form required to justify the hype.

There's a glut of really top European sires around at the moment and the probability that peak Galileo has been reached. Only Dubawi and Fastnet Rock ( in a few years ) have the goods to displace him. Every year you'll have the likes of a Cape Cross or Sea The Stars throwing a really good individual with plenty of quantity but not huge quality to back it up. Teofilo is a fabulous sire but doesn't get the really top type of horses, New Approach looked awesome but has fallen off the radar, and all the Invincible Spirit/Dark Angel types banging in the winners and producing Gp class horses by the bucketful.

There are so many top stallons around that horses like Oasis Dream and the upcoming Frankel and the Derby Winning stallions coming along are hardly even considered. Wait till Frankel's first winner and then we'll see hype.

The first Frankel yearlings about to go through the ring in France, should be interesting. Anyone know if there is a live feed?

It's been an incredible weekend for Galileo, Mondialiste taking a Group 1 in Canada topped off the weekend with Galileo's 4th individual Gp 1 winner of the weekend with a host of placed horses as well including Found's 2nd in the big one.

He has also equalled Sadler's Wells 6 individual GP 1winners out of a single crop with AOB's Together Forever, Found, Gleneagles, Highland Reel, Bondi Beach, and Order Of St George.

o'meara is a cracking trainer, how soft must a group 1 be for mondialiste to win it though.

I hear Sea The Stars is staying at 125k for next season , has been a poor enough season for him .They should have dropped him abit .

Nightflower in Germany makes it 4 Gp1 winners this year for Dylan Thomas, the form of her win ain't too bad at all with Dubday back in 3rd.

I see the Coolmore boys paid over 2 million gns for a daughter of Dubawi yesterday. Is this a sign of a change in policy I wonder?

    I doubt it.
A Dubawi filly became the highest-priced yearling sold in the world this year when she was knocked down to Coolmore's John Magnier for 2.1 million guineas.
She is out of Sadler's Wells mare Loveisallyouneed, who is a full-sister to Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Yesterday and Quarter Moon.

Magnier was buying on behalf of Richard Henry, boss of Coolmore's advertising arm Primus Advertising.

"I think he was overcome with emotion," said Magnier, referring to the fact Henry had Jude, the grand-dam of this filly.

Henry said: "I sold Loveisallyouneed and just after that Jude died.

"I wanted to get back into the family - it has been so good to us.

"Yesterday is in-foal to red-hot first-season sire Zoffany, and Quarter Moon has produced two high-class fillies by Fastnet Rock in Group One winner Diamondsandrubies and Classic prospect for next season How High The Moon.

"Hopefully this filly might be as good as them."

Anyone able to tell me off hand how many mares Galileo covered this year?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 138 ✭✭liverbear

What national hunt sires are the biggest or throw the biggest foals. I have a well bred mare that is on the small side.

I don't think there are that many,
Without knowing what your mare is by its kind of hard to recommend any in particular, but Doyen (Sadlers Wells) is a fine big horse - 16.3 and seems to get them on the big side, although being big you tend to attract small mares .
    Stowaway, deceased something similar.
Getaway ( Monsun ) and Mahler ( Galileo ) are getting good sized stock, as is Arctic Cosmos ( North Light ) I believe.
A young sire, Shantaram ( Galileo ) is a fine stamp of a horse and stands 16.3 at !east - I hear he has some fine big foals on the ground.
