Is it an nct failure if rear fog lights can not be turned off?

Mine come on automatically with the headlights and as far as i know it is a problem within the control panel as to why i cannot switch them on or off.

M3 rant: Getting tolled twice on the M3 while going from Kells into Phibsborough, €1.90 at each end. Grrrr!!

Just get off at dunshughlin to dodge it. Back on it again in 10 minutes the far side of the toll. Will only add 5 minutes extra to your trip even though the bisterds reduced the speed limit to 80.

Never one for toll dodging but have been dodging the portlaoise one lately heading up and down to cork, more for a break from the motorway monotony than anything else. Grand road though, does be quite enough apart from a few slow movers and the lights in durrow. Not sure how much time it ads on.

Fail as you should not be driving with fogs on unless there is actually heavy fog.

Your not driving a micra are you?
Micra drivers of the 99,00 era love having all their fogs on and the front fogs on those have no centre tip cover on bulbs so you get full 55watt in the eyes.

As in both rear fogs come on? Are you sure you haven't the bulbs mixed up in the cluster?

What's the scrap value of a car these days lads? A fella in work has a 2001 almera. Failed the nct on the track rod ends which he has replacements and the maf is gone. Needs a pair of tyres too. Its sitting outside in the work car park ready for the scrappy tomorrow. He just wants it gone. Half thinking of taking it off his hands and giving it another lease of life.

Cousin got €70 (there abouts) for his 97 Almera, scrap place came to his house and took it for him.

I reckon throw it up on donedeal and see does anyone want it. May be some good to someone :)

I said that to him but he just wants it gone. A few hours over the weekend would set it right.

Is there much NCT on it?

    What mileage is on it?
Whats the clutch and gearbox like as they are terrible on these.

Why don't you buy it off him if you think its worth saving?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,540 ✭✭✭Special Circumstances

I'd guess 100 ish if you drove it in to either of the scrap metal merchants near you SG.
Might be a few squid in it if you fitted it out with barely-better-than-ditchfinders and fitted a used MAF? Or just try cleaning it?

Would it be worth the hassle of dealing with the tyre kickers? Dunno...

@punisher. NCT out since January. No idea how good the engine and box is or the mileage. That's what I was thinking of doing but looking at what they're going for on DD with a test I don't think its worth the hassle.

@SC. You're probably right about the tyre kickers. Its nothing special to be honest

Should I put Opel badges on my Astra? I think they look a lot better than the Vauxhall ones. :P

Would the steering be as easy to do though?

You'd have to get all new glass too , wouldn't they have the vauxhall badge on them as opposed to GM for opel?

Go for it. It will still be an Astra at the end of the day through.

Anyone here know how to sort this out? First appeared on Saturday evening and shows every time I start up the Mondeo. All the lights are working on the car.

Did you check the brake lights? Is there a third one in the centre.

Yep, checked them all and are all working perfect.

Even checked the front lights and the fog lights for both front and back, to be extra sure :p

    Poor connection/earthing somewhere I'd say.

Clearly a fault with brake lights.

Did you check left, middle and right brake lights?

Disconnect the battery for an hour an reconnect it. Might clear it. Have your radio code handy

Seems to be the issue alright. I'll bring it into the dealership during the week and see can they sort it out!

It would be common enough for a canbus system to throw up a brake light fault if resistance on the circuit falls outside certain values. It mightn't involve any blown bulbs or bulbs not lighting.

You can sometimes clear this message with the ok button on the steering wheel.

Guys does this sound like a wheel bearing?
For a while I had been noticing a groaning noise which increases with speed but doesn't change depending on which way I turn so I cant figure it out.
    Would tires.give the same symptoms?

Just save people looking for it!

Have you had it up on a jack, do any of the wheels get hotter than the others?

    No fun then :D
Havent had it up yet, wheels all stay the same (no excessive heat)
With the window open at 100 you can't hear anything but windows closed and its groaning away...

Same issue as you at the moment. Someone here suggested to me that it could be my tyres last week. Had them changed anyway as they were due. Noise is still there. New bearing due tomorrow. The noise on mine is louder when I turn left and pretty much gone when I turn right

That sounds a most annoying feature!

I don't think almost all cars from mid 2000's have that flashing the hazards under heavy stopping. Ah you generally wouldn't set them off too easy although I did set them off on the Megane a few weeks ago van decides to almost completely stop hard when going around a long slight bend over 100 kmh to 20 kmh I had to seriously stand on the brake pedal it's a good car to stop I discovered that day.

Ecu sets of the hazards when deceleration goes over a certain value so it's not how hard you push the pedal as such more how fast your decreasing your speed.

For you then it's quite certain to be a bearing.
My yoke doesn't change whether left or right so I'm more towards it being the tires.
Only had them changed in April.

It was mainly a French thing initially I think. It's still not that common AFAIK.
