Its a mixture of clickbait articles to bring in advertising revenue and what I have noticed across various publications, a general dumbing down of articles in the media to hide other dodgy goings on and real stories.

Real Journalism is certainly dead at the Indo and has been for quite a while.

That's just a pile of quotes with no in depth analysis. Awful article.

In my mind, this kind of mindset that Barry Egan promotes is without doubt the worst element of Ireland that developed during the so called property boom. This perspective of greed, one-upmanship and effectively jealousy that the Irish independent did its level best to promote during the boom and continues to do so. Property, designer labels, Z list celebrities ("socialites" which I don't think is something that existed before the internet age) are all part of it. It doesn't come from a traditional idea of hard work gains reward but more of a "buy a house to try and make a quick buck" kind of thinking.

Its hard to define if i;m honest but all i know is that the Irish independent are at the forefront of it

Barry Egan was writing sh1te like this before since before the Celtic Tiger was even a twinkle in its Daddys eyes. He learned at the bosom of Terry Keane and copied her style and continues to do so to this day. It hasn't aged well!

How the hell can Barry Egan look at himself in the mirror every morning and call himself a journalist?:pac:

Surely he doesn't consider himself a journalist. He's a gossip columnist at best or a social diarist. He seems to operate on the basis that Indo readers hold Gerald Keane and Lisa Murphy and all these other nonentities in some kind of affection. Because he does. I don't believe anybody cares to read about some former models new baby or her wedding to some thick rugby player on an island of Corfu. And then 2 years later how she's emotionally shattered following her traumatic divorce but how brave she is.
Parents of sick kids are heroic and shattered. Not pretentious wannabe celebs.
If you read Barry Egan you are a moron who needs to get something more worthwhile to occupy your time.

Or if you want a good belly laugh on a rainy Bank Holiday Sunday! How he can collect a pay packet for this drivel is beyond belief! Yet, I'm sure some take him serious and lap up every sad word!

I think that every now and again Lisa Murphy has a lightbulb moment and she realises that she's a prostitute, a little bit of self respect creeps in and she walks away from Keane.
A few weeks later she's running low on botox and shiny things so it's back to giving Keane blow jobs and taking it up the bum.

I just read the article and instantly regretted it. I think I'm not dumb enough to understand it. I think anyone who reads that dies a little bit inside.

I googled Lisa Murphy and I'm still none the wiser. Who the hell is she?

All I found is this scary photo
    http://cdn1.independent.ie/migration_catalog/article25227668.ece/1ecad/ALTERNATES/h342/Lisa-Murphy_TG

And a description of her as the partner of a celebrity lawyer.

Two alternative questions might be added by use of "what" and "why"

Oh the morons are the ones who read it and breathe a sigh of relief that Lisa and Gerald are back on track or that BOD and wife got that planning permission (OMG I was biting my nails) or Sharon Corrs husband got that promotion. I don't believe there are many though.

The man is beyond an embarrassment. I wonder, is he not mortified? Does have any self awareness?

    You know she does anal?!

Lisa Murphy is one good example of "Don't over-do the cosmetic surgery folks". I'd bet she is a nice looking woman without all that stuff injected into her face.

Lisa Murphy has a savage body though. I'd give her one.

The term socialite predates the internet, been around since the 1920s. Quite a number of New York socialites were affected by the stock market crash of 1929.

Ah lads, we all know that the prophecy says that the Recession will not be officially dead until we start up the next Boom. They say the first sign of which will be a re-incarnated Gavin Lambe Murphy on the front page of the Sindo publicising an oxygen bar which he's behind/gets free... oxygen from.

That article made me feel queasy, which is fairly consistent for a Barry Egan article.

I meet Lisa by accident by the rose bushes. I tell her that I can't keep up with her and Gerald's love life.

Lol. A regular peeping Tom. I hope he didn't get any thorns stuck on his bell.

If he's reading this, he'll have himself convinced blind that it's "begrudgery" at his success: "entertainment journalist" with a ridiculed rag, and rubbing shoulders with vapid nobodies. Gerald Kean seems like a sound enough fella in fairness though, but it's cringey that he's wheeled out like Ireland's Kanye West every Sunday, only by one publication.
