If Bazza says so it must be true. Love him or loathe him, you have to admire his persistence!

No, I don't have to admire his persistence

Well 'recession' is a specific economic term and as far as I'm aware we've had two consecutive quarters of growth.

    So we're not in recession.

But there's still bitter people that will watch what you buy "no recession in your house", looking down on you for buying a small treat. What do we do with them. They will live on forever.

Who the **** is Barry Egan?

Socialte 'journalist', used to be on back page of indo telling us about the time he spent drinking champagne with Jonny Ronan and a model (every week)... a la Terry Keane.

Although I think the answer was best answered in your question.

Great; does this mean I'll get my pay cut of 6 years ago reversed, and get a pay rise for the first time in 8 years?

Ahhhh... he was drinking champagne with Jonny Ronan and some model the other day... and it was fabulous.

I think the more parties he attends the better the economy gets. Keep going Barry, keep going, we need you.

I know we're not in recession but it just hit me when I was typing in another thread....we've had 7-8 years of this crap. All that time of cutbacks and austerity. It's getting old now.

Ginger, malformed sycophant to Irish minor celebrity firmament. So ugly looks like he's been turned inside out.

I just read the article and instantly regretted it. I think I'm not dumb enough to understand it. I think anyone who reads that dies a little bit inside.

I googled Lisa Murphy and I'm still none the wiser. Who the hell is she?

All I found is this scary photo
    http://cdn1.independent.ie/migration_catalog/article25227668.ece/1ecad/ALTERNATES/h342/Lisa-Murphy_TG

And a description of her as the partner of a celebrity lawyer.

Not really. Our income amounted to 60% of our outgoings in 2008. We needed cutbacks. I just realised how long we've been living with it.

She's the plastic fantastic ex of Michael Flateley and some boxer, whose name escapes me. She's the current on/off/on again squeeze of "celebrity" solicitor Gerald Keane. She also appeared in some reality Irish TV show. Basically, the Kim Kardashian of Ireland.

Its a mixture of clickbait articles to bring in advertising revenue and what I have noticed across various publications, a general dumbing down of articles in the media to hide other dodgy goings on and real stories.

Real Journalism is certainly dead at the Indo and has been for quite a while.

Barry Egan in an article featuring Gerald Keane and Lisa "the model" Murphy.....its like a triumvirate of Sindo wrongness.....

What in the name of God did I just read. Was there a point to that story at all? It's terribly constructed and reads like the author wrote it while drunk. Everyday the indo slides closer and closer to becoming a full blown tabloid. Although you could argue with this constant reporting on Irish "celebrity" culture that the paper has already thrown itself into the red top abyss with reckless abandon.

In my mind, this kind of mindset that Barry Egan promotes is without doubt the worst element of Ireland that developed during the so called property boom. This perspective of greed, one-upmanship and effectively jealousy that the Irish independent did its level best to promote during the boom and continues to do so. Property, designer labels, Z list celebrities ("socialites" which I don't think is something that existed before the internet age) are all part of it. It doesn't come from a traditional idea of hard work gains reward but more of a "buy a house to try and make a quick buck" kind of thinking.

Its hard to define if i;m honest but all i know is that the Irish independent are at the forefront of it

Barry Egan was writing sh1te like this before since before the Celtic Tiger was even a twinkle in its Daddys eyes. He learned at the bosom of Terry Keane and copied her style and continues to do so to this day. It hasn't aged well!

Surely he doesn't consider himself a journalist. He's a gossip columnist at best or a social diarist. He seems to operate on the basis that Indo readers hold Gerald Keane and Lisa Murphy and all these other nonentities in some kind of affection. Because he does. I don't believe anybody cares to read about some former models new baby or her wedding to some thick rugby player on an island of Corfu. And then 2 years later how she's emotionally shattered following her traumatic divorce but how brave she is.
Parents of sick kids are heroic and shattered. Not pretentious wannabe celebs.
If you read Barry Egan you are a moron who needs to get something more worthwhile to occupy your time.

Or if you want a good belly laugh on a rainy Bank Holiday Sunday! How he can collect a pay packet for this drivel is beyond belief! Yet, I'm sure some take him serious and lap up every sad word!

I think that every now and again Lisa Murphy has a lightbulb moment and she realises that she's a prostitute, a little bit of self respect creeps in and she walks away from Keane.
A few weeks later she's running low on botox and shiny things so it's back to giving Keane blow jobs and taking it up the bum.

The term socialite predates the internet, been around since the 1920s. Quite a number of New York socialites were affected by the stock market crash of 1929.
