Nicely takes photos of the reg being obscured. Looks well though.

Older one here but these S8s are really cool imo.

    Just 38k miles

Asking €4,550 but that does include €600 tax left on the car if we take the sellers word for it (reg blanked)

    Linky to it

I'd probably be pretty tempted if something like this came along my way sometime next year...

Seats have been changed in that I reckon. It's got controls for comfort seats (including extremely rare ventilation) - but no comfort seats!

Those 20" final edition alloys are worth about 1200-1500 aswell, so that looks to be be well priced.

That bronze A8 is absolutely hideous. Fake rotors, crappy DRLs, plastic caliper covers, Audi logos everywhere on the inside... Ew, gross.

Absolutely superb cars though when not raped like that one, I spent a few days driving this and it was fantastic.

That one looks lovely, classy and understated. What engine was in it?

3.0 TDI. Adequate power especially when they're remapped but the 4.2 TDI is a beast.

For anyone liking that A8 3.0 TDI, from the same company, here's a same year, also a bit outside of budget, Phaeton with the same engine

    40854602.jpeg

    Linky

Looks like a big Passat, but it is actually a hand built Bentley underneath

    Pity it's not a V8 petrol though, I'd be very tempted :D

Love them but it would want to be a damn sight cheaper than an A8 before I'd consider one

Built in the town that used to build the trabant.... :)

    Those Phaetons are handsome cars.

One thing about them is that they're extremely heavy - the 3.0 TDI weighs over 2200kg as opposed to just over 1800kg for a 3.0 TDI A8.

The phaeton's biggest problem is the vw badge.

Anyone who wants to buy a premium brand luxury car is not going to buy a VW.

How come it's so much heavier?

Steel construction of the frame I think, where it's all aluminium in the A8. I think it might have been built with 'solidty' in mind too, as opposed to say handling or effciency. And it really is the same car as the Bentley it's built on, and that was powered exclusivly by a turbocharged W12 engine so weight didn't matter as much.
I seen a W12 one for sale on autotrader in the UK, but it had a towbar which I thought looked a bit odd on a flagship 12 cylinder luxury car.

I'd be extremely tempted by the likes of that.

Buy @5k, gey it assessed and spend a few €k on it, say €2k even getting a few bits, (it's obviously going to need the odd bit here and there) then throw six months tax on it.

That amount of car, tested, taxed and insured for €8k ish is staggering.

Built in the town that used to build the trabant.... :)

Chassis is built and painted in Zwickau, the car is assembled in Dresden. Bentley chassis is also built and painted in Zwickau but sent to the UK for assembly. Some Bentley's are assembled in Dresden if production needs it.

You can visit the factory in Dresden, well worth it IMO. Factory was a new build in the city centre and to reduce the amount of trucks in the city centre they converted trams to carry parts across the city.

When it was launched it had a steel chassis with a bigger emphasis on torsional rigidity, 4WD and air suspension as standard, more extras as well compared to a standard A8.

E38 with 6 months NCT for €2600. Seem to be rising slowly in price and/or getting rare. Don't like the alloys myself but there's plenty of nice second hand ones available.

Aluminium XJ6, claims FSH too which is nice.

The Phaeton hasn't aged well at all inside. It would be the A8 all day for me.

Buttons, display, seats etc look fine to me. Though that "wood" looks awful. Not sure what you could do with it... gloss black?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭Nforce

Had a look at a few XJ6's recently and a lot seem to have bad laquer peel, is this a known issue?
The above A8 is very tempting, but it's had a very recent change of ownership. Are the gearboxes dodgy on these?

Edit: Explains the recent change of ownership. Car is being sold by a small dealer http://www.adverts.ie/search/user-1088500

I think the Bentley W12 was turbo'd and it was naturally aspirated in the VW, not 100% sure.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 136 ✭✭RyanMGF

Yeah, the W12 was without its turbos in the A8 & Phaeton.

Does that burgundy/wine/dark red work better on the X350 in the flesh then in the pics????

Not exactly the most important aspect on an X350 at this age though to be fair as condition etc is much more important.

I've an e39 approximately that colour, it looks a lot better in person than in photos. I think it's not a very photogenic colour for cars. It is a colour a lot of people aren't keen on though, so could affect later resale.
