    Ah, now I see. OP is making the point that social cohesion is eroded by the inexorable passage of time.

    Using seemingly cryptic references to salt shakers he cites faded songs of yesteryear to remind us all that our culture is constantly diminished by the passing years ebbing on our communal memory.

    But surely we can beat against the tide?

    Ah memories! I'd never heard of Jimmy Buffet until one night in Barco Hundido in Bocas del Toro a Spring Breaker asked me if I knew was the guy at the other end of the bar Jimmy Buffet...rumour had it that his yacht was anchored in the bay.
