But has he told Joe?

Anyway they still have 18 months. We can't assume they've been abroad over that time period.

That's just the demographics of Facebook. No voters will be much quieter on social media, and the internet in general, but they'll still be there.

But it's also the demographic that's least likely to turn out to vote. I've seen similar in my Facebook. Very encouraging.

Is this an actual up-to-date exit poll on here today? or just the old poll.

I'm outside the Facebook demographic of a regular and heavy user but my feed has really come alive today with people in a similar demographic to myself and it's pretty cool to see the enthusiasm out there.

I haven't seen anything like it in over 20 years since i was first eligible to vote.

Yep, this is true and really inspiring - turnout figures will probably tell us how the result is going before we get it.

'Yet to be decided' implies that they have come up with a number of options. I would certainly hope that they have options seeing that a number of members of the government said they are currently working on legislation.

'We don't know' implies that they are clueless. This shouldn't be the case if they are working on legislation.

So basically it comes down to believing that they are working on it or they aren't. I'd be inclined to believe them as it is an issue that will only get bigger regardless of the outcome of this referendum.

The issue is there already and will be there tomorrow regardless the result so it is separate to the referendum.

It won't be decided by legislation, it entirely depends on how the supreme court interprets 'the right to beget children'. That is totally unknown since no law has ever tried to ban surrogacy, donor assisted reproduction or IVF.

If families have the right to beget children, and two men can be a family then it means the supreme court have to decide if it is possible to ban surrogacy if demand surges, or if this means they would also have to ban IVF and donor assisted reproduction as they are all unnatural methods of reproduction.

The RefCom said it's a right to reproduce naturally but this is not stated anywhere in the constitution so I think it is completely misleading.

Its new, because I just voted in it there and I had voted in a previous one a while ago.

I must say, I do feel slightly envious of those who are voting for the first time today. My first referendum vote was Maastricht. Dull.

Both parents are voting no to both even though ive a sister who has been out for about 15 years.

well its already clear that ~40% of people will vote no and theres going to be 1000s of people who dont agree with it, but at the same time dont want to deny anybody the chance, so just wont vote.

i would say that if every person in the country voted, it wouldnt pass but the intensive focus on the yes side especially in young people and the mode for "change" thats currently in this country, it will pass.

you cant just question the mindset of people, just because they dont agree with something you believe in.

personally i hope it passes, but i wish people in the Yes stopped saying there is something wrong with people who are opposed to it.

I can yes. I am a fair man and I listened to both sides of the debate but the arguments on the No side were simply weak to the point of being wrong. I would respect people more if they came out and said they were voting no because they were homophobic. But this "I am not homophobic but I am worried about surrogacy, definition of marriage, adoption, Adam and Eve etc" is just cowardly.

There is no 'the right to beget children'. The Supreme Court has already said they are not touching surrogacy with a ten foot pole, and that it is up to the Oireachteas to deal with it.

The Supreme Court doesn't decide things based on demand, it is their job to ensure that our laws are in accordance with the constitution. All demand will do is make the issue more pressing.

So either way, the argument is based of pre-existing parts of the constitution, pre-existing case law. Coupled with the fact that straight couples can also require access to surrogacy, means that the outcome of this referendum is completely irrelevant to that issue.

Facebook has a page showing the demographics of voters throughout the day:

I have never seen an atmosphere like I did at my polling station this morning. I have been voting at elections and referenda for just over 20 year now and usually it is just quiet straight forward and boring. This morning it was so different. There was a visible 'joy' in the air and anybody that was in the polling station was in great form and laughing and smiling. It was great to see.

LOL. I just wrote a very long, very detailed analysis on why ultimately the "Yes" vote is not being made for the right reasons.

    It was blocked very promptly.

Which I suppose makes my point.

The mods are hard at work for free speech this morning, I see.

As a matter of interest why isnt there lots of pictures on facebook and twitter of NO voters after happily and proudly voting NO?

    Probably use to voting.

I highly doubt it was blocked for absolutely no reason (if it was blocked at all)

First time voter myself, glad it's a referendum I actually care about.

Off to do my last exam now, good all all around :)

Whatever about the Marriage Referendum, I can't believe how many are apparently (based on posts here) voting Yes for the Presidential age one as well.

I go off for a few hours to distribute leaflets and I come back to pages of claims of voter fraud.

This makes me happy - the No side are claiming it's been rigged and we haven't even started voting yet so I assume if they win the Yes side can also claim it's voter fraud and insist we do it again.

Letter slots at the bottom of doors are a *$&^£&£* - can have a referendum to outlaw those please? Me back is broken.

I voted yes at 7.45 am. I'm not your 'bogeyman'. Are you happy with large amounts of people returning to the state to commit electoral fraud?

Posts don't get blocked. If it's something horrible, more than likely someone will report it and you will get a warning. In some cases mods will edit it. I have never heard of a post being 'blocked'. None of my posts have ever been blocked.

the way I see it we still decide who gets voted in, maybe we'll be surprised, whether that's in a good or bad way is a different matter.

I think voting Yes for equality based on sexuality in marriage and then No to a Presidential run based on age is a little hypocritical. Voted yes to both. But I can see people's point of view more so on the latter.
