Howdy Farmer Folk. With your pitchforks and straw hats (I'm sure?!). :p

I don't really post here (although I do tend to wander in and out of the forum randomly, from the main page of Boads.ie). Was wondering if I could ask a quick question of ye more clued in than I am?

I have a bit of a back-garden project ongoing at the moment. I'm trying to get rid of muck/soil.. whatever you want to call it.. it's a 50/50 mix of stones and muck i'd say. I've hired two skips and i still have a fair bit of it left over. Thoughts of hiring another skip are killing me.

A friend was saying he was in a similar situation before and he offloaded it to a farmer. Apparently the farmer popped around in his jeep and left a trailer. Friend rang him when it was full, and the farmer came back and collected it. (it was a big trailer, tall.. about 4ft tall on the sides apparently). Friend threw the farmer €50 and away he went. Everyone a winner.

Apparently the farmer would use it for something (or just use a digger to drive over it and squash it into nothing? I've no idea how it'd benefit him. I presume it wasn't just dumped at the roadside).

Was wondering if that's true? Does that kinda thing happen? Could I give a farmer a couple of euro and he'd take my crappy soil away? If so.. how would you find a farmer these days that might be receptive of such an idea? (I'm not involved in the farming community at all, and aside from seeing them driving tractors about the roads the odd time, I can't recall the last time I've ever actually seen a farmer).

Cheers to anyone able to help :)

Fingers crossed. Getting stuck into the garden tomorrow and just hoping it wont get in the way too much. It's already taking up too much space, don't want to be further dragging it around the garden if I can avoid it.

This is what i'm battling with. Trying to get it flat to the ground, but there's just so much of it. Pain in the hole.

It doesn't look outrageous to me. It will settle down a bit. You do need to till it until you've a finer seed bed, maybe pick off any larger stones, but it doesn't look to bad on my phone!

Edit. Upon closer examination, I think I see a lot of lying water? Why is this? I'd like to be solving this.

I'm planning to put decking in that area, coming across the footpath from the other side of the garden, so I need/want it flush with the path (so make life a bit easier/cleaner).

I might have figured a solution, by making a stupidly wide flower bed in another area of the garden that I can try and put the soil into.

The water in the photo above is there because it had just rained quite heavily. It was gone when I went back over to the garden the next day.
