I passed a campaigner the other day on the street. Old man in his 70's or 80's wearing a 'vote No' sign front and back. I was half expecting to read about an attack in the paper the next day but thankfully it didn't happen.

Religious freedom will no longer exists.
Children won't be taught how to live there lives by the bible in school.

Where is this yes side getting a there money.
Somebody on TV said they were voting no and there were talked down.
There's a gay agenda, the TV is full of gay men reading the news, the rose of Tree, the Eurovision and the GAA.
Churches will be forced to marry two men or two women.
What will be Next will people want to marry there dogs or cat.
Marriage is between a man and woman.

I'm not talking about my own beliefs man. I'm talking about other people's right to hold theirs.

a few days ago i was 100% sure this would pass and it wouldnt even be close.....the yes vote is dropping alot now.

it should still get through, but its going to be tight....really really tight.

I'm getting quite worried alright- it's tricky to tell the mood on the ground, as you get extremes on both sides on the internet.

Lads in all fairness is the line "There's a gay agenda, the TV is full of gay men reading the news, the rose of Tree, the Eurovision and the GAA." not really bloody obvious satire???

edit: in popcorns post that is!

A Yes vote would make it difficult for a government to put in legislation that makes a man and a woman favorable to a same sex couple in adopting a child, which I think is much fairer on children.

A yes vote has no impact on this - covered under legislation

I didn't think there was specifically a right to hold a belief? Especially a belief that equates to bigotry.

As a student a lot of what I'm hearing is "I'd vote yes but doubt I'll bother, fair surprised to hear both my parents are voting no" . So if that's accurate it's gonna be a lot, lot closer than even the latest polls id say.

How is it favourable to children?

Surely having adults to nurture and care for them is whats important. Kids don't give a rats ass what gender you are once you provide them with love and attention.

I think your sarco-meter might be failing you again Lolli... at least I hope.

:D Thanks for the clarification- based on some of the stuff I've read, it's really not all that out there for someone to have that line of thinking.

Lots of young smiley happy people on Grafton street today wearing big no badges. I was surprised tbh, thought a lot of it would be older people.

Wouldn't that be political interference with the independence of the Adoption Authority?

So same sex couples are inferior you say? Have you any evidence at all to back this up?

I love this one. Vote no so we can discriminate against gay people based on prejudice that they would be worse parents.

I think the adoption authority know better than both of us.

As has been explained, you are entitled to believe anything you want. You are not, however, entitled to act on those beliefs at the expense of others.

    Strange that, eh?

I predict the result will be:

    Yes 61%
    No 39%

    Turnout 46%

No one is saying people shouldn't have a right to hold whatever beliefs they want. The issue is them wanting their beliefs to remain part of state law.

Yeah because by not voting against they'd feel they'd be angering their god though. That's a fact but just gets laughed which does no favors to anyone

I've been hearing a bit about no voters across Irish colleges afraid to voice their opinion because they'd be viewed as bigots by their peers. And that some LGBT groups in colleges are making a spectacle of no voters.

I'd say the vote's going to be close but I hope it passes.

It's not your fault, the 'no side' is so incoherent that the entire 'debate' is practically a case study in Poe's law.

May I introduce you to the Children and Family Relationship Act 2015 http://www.oireachtas.ie/viewdoc.asp?fn=/documents/bills28/bills/2015/1415/b1415dnew.pdf

While you are there why exactly is it fairer on children to determine who is the best parent based only on their genitalia?

Why would God be angry about which way they voted - sure he knew what they we going to do before they did.

I really wouldn't be surprised if that's happening in colleges. They're great at being tolerant, as long as you're tolerating the right people.

Shame really cos all it's doing is alienating people. I definitely know people in college who will vote No, they just won't say it in college.

Yeah the entire history of the human race backs me up, a mother and father is obviously ideal I really don't get anyone how anyone could think otherwise but fair enough

Everyone remember when MessiHutz arrived in here announcing that she had changed her voting intentions because of the Asher case and yet now we are all taking a spin on the oh to familiar Vote No excuse roulette table? Kind of like when SafeSurfer arrived announcing her devotion to equality before taking us on the same roulette table. Its exhausting.

Not true. The Adoption Authority of Ireland has already confirmed that that is not the case.
