There's a huge difference between saying "I'm suspicious about this story" and "They dress slutty so why are they surprised?"

One is victim blaming and the other is questioning the story.

I am VERY suspicious of this story.

    http://www.herald.ie/news/sisters-beaten-in-20-hour-hostage-hell-31230525.html
They met the two men, aged 25 and 30, at a bus stop and were brought to an apartment in Newbridge town centre shortly after 7.30pm.

Soon after, Amy said one of the men, who is originally from Crumlin, started “acting weird”.

“His demeanour changed and he started talking about how he had been in jail before,” she said.

The search area for the alleged perpetrators has already narrowed considerably it would seem

One might be excused for enquiring how this "Story" found it's way onto the media, and what the Garda involvement in this process was ?

From initial readings,it appears that the usual procedures in such cases has not been followed here ?

Undoubtedly, the same media will advise us all if and when futher clarity is available ?

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

The girls are obviously injured though.

Even if the story is ****e, they don't deserve to be beaten up like that.

True or not, this sounds like the most stereotypical hostage situation in Irish history.

I saw those two on the luas last Thursday! They got off at the red cow around 5.30.

    Madness

Apparently it happened 3 weeks ago so what relevance is it if you saw them yesterday?

    You're totally right.

Absolutely all of us young women are complete idiots.

Check out their surname. Then think of any dodgy people from Tallaght with the same surname.;)

If you watch the video the two girls answer almost in unison with similar hand gestures. Either they're incredibly talented actors who've rehearsed this thing meticulously or what they're saying actually happened.

I can't, for the life of me, figure out how the finest sleuths in the world have gathered on this thread to cast aspersions on their story with such limited information.

    Creepy.

Whatever happened. They are obviously injured horrifically. That is tragic. I don't know the details but they are very very young.

Apparently "they tied us up" then later it's " they went to sleep and left one untied?
That alone is one inconsistency, got off the bus 7.30,getting the crap lumped outta by 8(and possible drugging in that small timeframe)?I dunno it doesn't add up to me.surely they'd have defensive marks?!? People who kick, tend to kick all over.they're injury's look more consistent with a clatter of digs IMO. Possibly inflicted by each other?

    I dunno,just seems fishy.
For all we know the guy "from crumlin originally" is being set up for some reason(not beyond some criminal rivals to attempt something like this when you think about it)

I suppose the truth will come following the investigation.
But if they were in a specific apartment, this really should be cut and dried.
I guess we'll have to wait and see.

It does not excuse anything. But I wondered if they were prostitutes? Again NOTHING excuses the beating.

They came in contact with the men three weeks ago.

    The assault happened last Thursday.

I feel terrible for them. Whatever led them to Newbridge that evening, we'll probably never know.. but nobody deserves that.

They will be scarred for life from that.

They're only kids at the end of the day.

In fairness that is not a statement given to police as far as I know. It's a quote from the media that they gave to the media.

The story seems to go that they "met" the men on Facebook three weeks ago. They didn't actually have a face-to-face until last Thursday.

Thought I was turning into a cynical old fart but I see I'm not alone. Soon as I started reading that story in the paper this morning I couldn't but say to myself [Cough]Bull$hit!![Cough]

The Gardai are no fools either and rest assured if some cynical so and so's like us here think the story smells fishy, well they do to. The journalist who penned the piece is no fool either and likely smells a rat too. He/she doesn't care though because he knows it means two stories for the price of one. Report the girls story first and then report the real story when it comes out.

Of course they didn't beat themselves up but they well have beat each other up over something for all we know, they could have been involved with someones fella they shouldn't have messed with and suffered a punishment beating etc etc. The kidnap story is simply a cover story. The truth will come out eventually.

    That would be tragic also.

No they did not beat themselves up. I think a little compassion would not go amiss. It's missing in this thread.

This a fair point, but I can only go with the info at hand.

    Presuming it's legit,it's a f*ckin shocking thing to happen/do to someone.
Though the naivety (stupidity IMO tbh) is pretty shocking aswell.

The minute i heard this story I thought it was suss. And if I thought it, like most here seem to, you can be sure those investigating thought so too. This will get checked out.

I dont know if its appropriate to speculate, but it would seem the girls had a reason to meet randomers like that. Escorts, party animals, or just naive, I dont know. But I dont think its victim blaming to say it was a very silly thing to do. Even in this website, warnings are given not to overshare or agree to meet strangers without ensuring your safety. Its not a gender or victim thing, its common sense.

I don't get why two pretty young girls would do this because they probably have plenty of guys living around them who would be interested in them, and who they know aren't thugs. So why would they go out of their way to meet two complete strangers and go through the trouble of travelling to meet them even? Like were they that exceptional that they deserved this attention, I strongly doubt it given what they're capable of..
