If their story is true, then that's all well and fine. Are we not allowed to doubt though that we're hearing the full story?

The very fact that it is so implausible two young girls would carelessly put themselves in harm's way makes me wonder if there's something we're not being told... this doesn't mean they deserve to be attacked, just means they may not have been completely honest about what happened!

There's a huge difference between saying "I'm suspicious about this story" and "They dress slutty so why are they surprised?"

One is victim blaming and the other is questioning the story.

If I was a girl and was attacked I wonder what would hurt more.
The actual beating, or the eejit comments afterwards.

    Sorry but I don't believe a word!
If u look at Amy's page her sister is recently commenting saying she's a big secret to share with Her to make her and Nicole famous.
Maybe I'm wrong but their hungry for fame and if it was my daughter is kick her ass for the carry on of her on facebook.disgusting provocative pictures! And it says on facebook Amy is engaged.whats she doing meeting men off a website ..doesn't add up ,and they can't find the men??? Surely they remember the apartment! Very odd

Sadly it's probably not as implausible as you might think. It's why child predators spend so much time grooming children online. These girls, if it happened, were extremely stupid, but I believe it important to criticise them. Show others the ramifications of their actions. It's not victim blaming, but instead not coddling.

That's what I don't get. The girls are claiming they were beaten, not molested sexually....

Why would you agree to meet with some random guy you've been chatting with on facebook? Stupid!

I presume the paper has some shred of journalistic integrity and has checked out the facts. I would find it very implausible that the injuries they are being treated for in hospital were self inflicted.

Sounds like a horrendous ordeal but I'd imagine fairly easy to track down the perpetrators.

Why are people so certain they're lying?

I'm wondering the same myself. We all did stupid things as teenagers so its not all that implausible.
The main concern here should be who beat the crap out of two young girls, not commentary on how they look or dress.

Does that photo look staged and story sound fake to anybody else?

The story does read a little strange. Like why no descriptions of the men?

Also they claim they were being held but where does the hostage bit come in - hostage against what?

    Usual Indo

The minute i heard this story I thought it was suss. And if I thought it, like most here seem to, you can be sure those investigating thought so too. This will get checked out.

I dont know if its appropriate to speculate, but it would seem the girls had a reason to meet randomers like that. Escorts, party animals, or just naive, I dont know. But I dont think its victim blaming to say it was a very silly thing to do. Even in this website, warnings are given not to overshare or agree to meet strangers without ensuring your safety. Its not a gender or victim thing, its common sense.

I agree, the lack of detail is concerning.

It's the Independent. They even lie about their name.

How many more girls will these men meet on Facebook, invite to their apartment and viciously assault before they slip up and get caught?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,659 ✭✭✭Mal-Adjusted

I imagine none, seeing as if what these girls are saying is true, it wouldn't be difficult to find them.

"The sisters said the men asked them to ring "someone with money to pay a ransom" which would set them free.
But when the sisters said they didn't have any money in their family, they were beaten further."

Look im sure more details will come out of the garda investigation and the girls if lying will be caught out. Regardless of their want for fame (Which most people their age crave now) they didnt deserve the injuries they have received.

The story in the Herald is more detailed:

I still think there is more to the story.

Sorry to see or hear anyone assaulted but it just doesn't add up for me. Just sounds to me sort of, well, concocted

As regards the why of the stupid actions engaged in by these two lassies, I'll say only this. There is not and never has been any rationale for the behaviour of teenagers when it comes to the pursuit of F R E E D O M !.
Monkeys swinging from branch to branch would make more intelligent decisions at times. But weren't we all young once ? eek.png

I for one don't care how the look or dress (though they seem very pretty), I just don't think they're telling the whole truth. Clearly they've been attacked, would be interested to find out more about this.

Surprising no arrests have been made so far, as you say this would be fairly easy to track down!

They thought it was hilarious, they started ringing this woman and had her on loudspeaker and she kept saying ‘let me hear them scream’.
    ...
“They thought she was dead and started ringing people on the phone and saying they needed to dig holes in the Wicklow mountains as they didn’t know what to do with these girls.”
    ...
She said as she was not tied up she tried to untie her sister but the men, who were sleeping beside them, woke and the assaults started again.
    ...
“They started lining us up against the wall and taking pictures and sending to friends what they had done to us. They were really proud of it.

That's what made me suspect of this story when I first read it.whatever about the two of the men being a pair of b!stards surely one of their friends would of had conscience enough to raise the alarm.

If you're gonna lie, lie smaller and shorter I guess

Surely you don't meet anyone online like that. If you are gonna meet from online (no reason not to) public place, middle of the day, very visible. Common sense.

Extended stories point to a lie.
I have noticed that a poor liar will adorn a lie with many others.
