lost by 1. great effort to force extra time, disappointing not to push on after the goal

Sickening in always is worse possible way to loose and to kerry by a point and in extra time
First all players every lad you must feel for they have given everything and there young young players not like senior so I always tend to bit more balanced critsom and I won't name minor players

They all give huge effort but there was three lads who struggled with their opposing men and imo should been switched or subbed but we're not

I said two days ago I believed in the team talent and team picked was good to win however I said three others should started particularly ryle who has a fine impact and I said then and even today key was management in having a game plan and reading the game

Firstly donal o sullivan is tremendous manager psst glories beara double ninety seven team winning under twenty one and senior county but he's record at minor since being with various teams is poor and while he's most passionate man you meet in gaa and be fair every game possible schools games this year often travelling six hours round trip problem I said my huge worry is he's too old school and I knew jack would have a plan and he did he played seven forwards one stage then played kinda double half forward line then blanket
Jack said three years ago he'd be run out of kerry he played such football as senior manager
Jbm should take note the way the traditional jack evolved as game made him evolve and cork simply couldn't break down the blanket and ran and ran in to defence than go over it and you don't fault the players the management are to blame for not changing tack
Imo cork actually had the better footballers tonight and are better team but sullivan too old style orthodox where kerry won as great great jack got every inch out of he's team

This is proved by kerry had at least ten or so different scorers so showed the team effort that system worked for them cork had Murphy duinn Kingston three good forwards yet they never got enough fast clean ball in space as jack countered that
Cork craved for Adam finnegan who can score long yet he was dropped of the panel week before the limerick game yet surely worth a panel place at least

Power was good, walsh, ryle as a sub and Leonard
Geaney looks top player for kerry
O sullivan term is up and now thank him for he's two years he deserves that but look on performance alone time new lads to get a chance as donal been with many cork teams times for new young coach to be developed

One other thing is word has it jack will be under twenty one manager confirmed once minors are our and mark my words that they will win munster in kerry next year and possibly year after as bulk last two minor teams be hitting their peak and it's vital for cork to have any chance sean Hayes and gene stay on
The worry is this extra time one point loss buys sullivan and co the under twenty one role but imo their records are not great
Dorgan is fine fitness coach and extra time lads certainly didn't fade so I'd retain him defo
Credit due to sullivan in i said before the game he picked a better team than last year however still changes tonight I felt could be made weren't and ryle should been on sooner

Disappointed as certainly cork could have won but the players deserve all credit due as they have given everything
If Hayes and gene stay at under twenty one they have fine talent that they can work on and of any manager that could beat jacks kerry in kerry they certainly you wouldn't rule out
Today showed how hard it's for any team to win here again underlined brilliant job clearly gene Hayes done at under twenty one.

This kerry team is not great but plays as a team and have no doubt they will evolve in august again and wouldn't say wouldn't win all Ireland as once you have jack like him or not he's a great great truly outstanding manager and one of the greatest of all times and does it at school senior minor etc and despite being around an age playing the blanket style shows he's always young at heart
My dream cork football one day gets a jack o Connor and I think our coaches have that potential but are never given a chance imo

Just sick after that ...a good looking team and to lose in extra time by a point ....O Connor destroyed us he was the difference ....Kerrys puke blanket football frustrated us all and Cork did not score for long periods ....on the night the best team won but we had three chances at the end of normal time but panicked our shots ....what might have been again for Cork football......TTM the only bit of good news I have Sean Hayes and one of his selectors were at the match ...seem to me to be a man looking at talent ......this is tough night to be think about that right now.

I'd agree totally but I wouldn't call kerry puke football as look like it or not great great managers adapt to a game and like the great great buffalo chip monks gorillas snakes lions all great great habitat this natural world they manage to live in extreme weather for only one reason evolution as they adapt to their surroundings while never loosing their instinct.

I actually admire and respect jack for having the balls the astute mind bravery as traditional manager in kerry to know this forwards no way like great kerry team so if kerry went attack attack attack last few minutes would turned over ball and yes it looked horrible but have to appreciate where jack was coming from in playing ball back to their keeper like Ireland Holland world cup in Italy in both had the results then to get out of the group of death and jack had a lead so he was bang on to hold it by hook or by crook where on complete contrast at times our management were very naive in trying to play nice open football at times
Kerry never lost their instinct in to get the last score when the need was greatest.

This showed ruthlessly again how in any level you must have good tactics
    Hopefully cork fans realise this

Hopefully sean will stay however I wouldn't say he being there is a certainty in Hayes goes to lots of games and he's fan football
Sullivan was appointed mid July two years ago he's term is up but who knows as unfortunately any cork job open for term one imo as vindicated by past years always has a worry who is appointed as what is actually a simple process they tend to unfortunately make it more complicated then it needs to be

James Mccarthy with Michael o brien or Kevin Murray or Derek kavangh or Steven o brien be okay
Ned English also but he won't even get an interview

Have no doubt and I said it already the side line lost cork the game not any of the players
Too slow to make changes then wrong ones made three lads should started didn't two more not even on the panel

You see likes I said regards the article on hurling earlier it makes no difference I'd structure development squads works if coached from minor are not top class and this set up proved that in the outstanding work of the last three years have given us a very very good team tonight but like the hurling three years ago management were passionate committed yes but never tactically astute
I don't want to list all the poor calls they made tonight but I think any cork fans at that knows cork should won the game
I feel gutted for the players

Felt sadly Kerry better on night and deserved win although taught we'd steal with golden chance end of normal time

We have Faulous individuals - powter, Dinesen, Kingston but kerry had them to and more balance

Powter was wasted pin corner his attacking runs badly missed in first 40 mins - he was marking geaney but sacrifices his own game - when he came out he made difference

Best gameever ive seen Ryle and Shane Kingston not at his normal best but ball kept away from him and he still caring injury

Surely some future cork players in dis group

Taught Kerry kick passing superb , accurate and fierce comfortible on ball strong on break

Very dissapointing I suppose kerry coast to Munster now unless tipp shape up - dey will prob concentrate on hurling

Excellent article. If ROCO AND Gaelscoil could become permanent hurling "academies" and attract and develop the best talent in the city and the Seandun development squads properly looked after , as with this yrs Munster U16 champs, thinks could pick up. But I'll hold my breath. DO'D has been involved with BnaO /development squads within Cork for yrs and is a dyed in the wool football man and hardly has the most inspiring track record when it comes to underage hurling development. The Glen themselves are part of the problem have really let the underage hurling standards slip

Talent in rochestown coming from clubs and work done deer

Huge talent already gone through dere and won nothing - desparate record in simcox cour u I mhuiri

Pushed by a few passonate gaa teacher but really I'd say last thing school want to be is even is hurling academie

With talent they have they shoulda won senior cups last 4/5 yrs

This year they pushed on and got a lot rite but you have to have almost a lunatic attitude and you need it all on sideline to

Huge respect for work done this year but short on the expertise needed for Harty esp.

In fairness in cork it's likes go AG and Ccri have structure but not always players - rochestown have players but not structure to win the big ones

    I'd totally agree with you
It imo still baffling me how ryle wasn't brought on sooner and considering no other lads from premier champions last year begs belief when he showed how good he was when he played

Cork manager surely knew how good ryle was when he saw him dominate west colleges midfield earlier corn u mhhir as I was told sullivan was that game
Kingston should be taken off earlier as poor lad struggled injury all could see this

I agree regards power and more so when kerry played a blanket we still kept him confined to corner this was a repeat of john miskekella corner back v kerry senior five years ago

all of what you say is true but we all know these things can only be changed by management not players
Tipp are putting huge recourses to football so won't just turn their eye to it now their in a final the difficulty is they will be simply out played and out thought by Jack o Connor

I never am surprised cork management minors in last year it was excuse after excuse v Dublin despite they making mistakes not starting Damien Buckley
After this game it's blame the weather and suited kerry etc and not us
I'm sorry now but the day you blame the weather is poor imo
Good management adjust to all situations

Have no doubt cork could have won but they wouldn't improved imo much under this management
If sean Hayes is still there he'll do well with them under twenty one

The worry is that o sullivan who is highly thought of by the ccb despite poor record at inter county will get under twenty one or minor if wants as he was with minors under mick slocum then after term had year with ephie then he's own two year term
And the ccb were well represented their Wednesday night
Now I'm all for that however imo I wonder does every cork manager get such support

Cork football people imo still don't actually realise how bad a state were in at minor and senior
And the saving grace of under twenty one could actually become a nightmare if Hayes and gene are not reappointed and if sullivan moves up as don't be surprised if it happens as sullivan could feel he deserves a chance at under twenty one as last two years he'll feel he was unlucky with them
If jack has to face donal at under twenty one have no doubt he'll win every time
This kerry team was not good as cork individual wise as imo jack even said weren't like last year team but they are the ultimate team
When you play as the ultimate team it means only one thing you have a great great managers

Cork still fail to realise the famine at minor hurling and football and under twenty one hurling was caused by cork going though the motions in appointment managers with no records really but like a rewards recognition scheme in you played or captioned cork or involved years ago you show an interest you get the job
Kerry and kk appointment are on proven records of excellence and while undrr twenty one was dismal have no doubt they will fix that with the appointment of the wonderful jack and it will probably co incide with cork making a appointment who's of managerial inferior tactical ability

Wednesday proved again tactics and managers win games at all levels now as they give teams a platform

TTm, I agree with what your saying, quite simply cork gaa is not committed to competing at intercounty level hurling and football and the proof is in the selection by a small cabal of head table types of all our managers. Cuthbert over cleary would not happen in any other county, donal o Sullivan vs jack oconnor was always going to result in one winner, ronan dwane moving onto his 3rd cork inter county team with what record? pat kenneally, ger fitzgerald................to compete at this level requires management on top of their game in regards to selection, preparation, motivation and tactical innovation with regards to their team, cork have that in NO current inter county management team except perhaps the u21 footballers, while perhaps there is hope for the minor hurlers although for me with this group its win munster or burst.
The county board honchos don't see any connection with inter county failure and development of the game, for some of them the minor footballers failing to win an allireland since 2001 means nothing, the fact that rebel og and its 'development' squads originally so badly launched in 2010 that they had to be reoriganised in 2013and have not solved anything is no reason to worry

Very tough to call as round robin championship makes it a lottery to a sense
Na pirasaigh have lee and gould and Buckley etc and I'm not sure if Eddie gunning plays due to leaving cert but I'd fancy youghal
Mannix halpin huge losses gardiner year older and guinheeen manager gone I'd say youghal with grit work rate and Desmond ollie dempsey and copper probably win it for them

Bride trying for stability and in Shane Walsh etc minor player unlucky not make cork set up good players but it is hard to look past the town with o Neill cronin lester, Murray all fine club players should win

Mallow should on paper win with herihly luttrell o Connor and Sean Hayes outstanding talent but these are the games mallow don't win and inniiscarra if o callaghan plays, dual cork minor sean o dounoughe and last year minor tomas o Connor they could be tough opponent
You would say mallow if they turn up to win however when pressure is on and the game needs be won I'll guess inniiscarra to win it as mallow don't always do it but I'd like them to actually do well as their talents deserve better runs in championship
Hayes if he gets ball could do real real damage
    Outstanding talent imo.

    0-10 v 1-05 up at ht

Very enjoyable game. Corkery is such an energizer bunny.. Clearing off the line, minute later scoring a point, what a footballer!
Really love watching our women play football, such a great team!

Great response to the galway goal too. Went up and tagged on few points immediately. Much better intensity from our girls today. Galway seem like a team that arent going to fold either though. Cracking 2nd half coming up me thinks.

    Won 0-14 v 1-10

What a game, what a win by the fantastic Cork ladies footballing team!!!!!!

Losing for most of the second half they ploughed on and eventually took the lead with 2.36 left on the clock. The only Galway player to even touch the ball in that time was their keeper !!!
I keep saying it , time and time again, the best I have ever seen in the red jersey. They are never beaten. They never give up. They have Proper Leaders all over the pitch with no little skill.

Galway will be wondering what they have to do to beat Cork. They played very well but were up against a fantastic footballing machine- though some of their kicking wasnt great and Valerie should not take frees from her weak side - but it is hard to criticise when they give it their all....and win !!

na piaraigh were too good for youghal last night. they played with more intensity, cohesion & intelligence. McDonnell in FF gave Grace a hiding from the start. Men against boys. youghal will find it hard to stay senior this year. all their backs are lacking pace & toughness. there's no intensity in mid field & with only 2 forwards(cooper & o'mahony) causing the na piaraigh defence any bit of bother over the hour the city team won't have an easier match this year. na piaraigh are good well balanced team that will go far this season but couldn't really judge them against an inept youghal side both on the field & sideline.

Great win for Bride Rovers last night. 100% work rate always. Brian murphy showed what a loss he is to the cork team.He scored a outrageous point all off 90 metres a truly inspirational player. Pa Cronin played well last night. Scored some great points.Altough he was lucky to stay on the pitch for a dangerous pull back on one of the rovers players. Cian o Connor very good for rovers. How Shane Walsh is not on the cork minor team is mind boggling. He was superb for Bride last night. Colm Lyons was very poor last night. Very first minute of game Bishopstown player pulled across murphys chest not even a yellow. Gave Bishopstown very soft frees. In the rovers deserved their win.

A lively opener to the hurling this weekend
I went to the mallow game to see two main players recormac Murphy and Sean Hayes in i think both could have big seasons with cork various teams
As I said mallow on paper should win but I guessed inniiscarra but mallow nearly lost this game and in truth should won in normal time but there have outstanding individual but they don't play as a team during a game imo

They will imo not win this outright as some team with three or four inter county players at various grades with cork past or present they will be beaten by, inniiscarra had grit and courage and commitment and player great hurling but lacked a few forwards and relied on Casey cork intermediate player a lot
Mahony was good, dounoughe had he's moments but luttrell done well when he marked him

Hayes was outstanding winning ball either at half or full forward and got two goals and an excellent penalty, he got load points, he as I said before the game was a star player and he's unbelievable
Minor cork last year he was very good and showed be on the under twenty one this year and intermediate panel also as he's tough strong as on ox and a real worker and he's imo senior potential if developed in time

Killan o Connor had a good game
Murphy had a good game but shouldn't be half forward play him centre back with luttrell beside him and you have a fortress with o Neill at half back
A gripping game right through to extra time that mallow will be delighted to win but they have to do lot work to progress further, start with playing Murphy in he's beat position.

I heard na Piarsaigh shocked youghal, huge win and Mcdonnell got three goals
Ian Mcdonnell was always a strong ball winner and people will know two years ago I felt should get a run with cork however mobility is he's problem so unfortunately won't ever make it but a strong hurler, fast hands, great shot but like cian Mccarthy unfortunately has it all bar mobility for inter county senior where mobility is key.

The shock of the night must be bride beating Bishopstown in extra time
Fair play to bride rovers, their main goal this year is stability and staying up and they will be happy with the win
Great to hear reports of it in the thread

Just watched the ladies football, congratulations to cork another wonderful victory in another league won but hardly a wonderful performance and cork ladies footballers builds itself around no egos and honesty within so I'm sure they will be the ist to admit this wasn't a great performance, lot poor wides, poor decision making, turnovers and Galways yellow card helped cork hugely at a vital point in the game but still cork won whichever great sign to win and know you have more left to improve and no doing cork will improve under Ryan again

The great great really really great teams of sport, Barcelona, man United, old Brazil teams, cork three row hurling and team of ten years ago, kerrys teams, ruby Walsh, Tony McCoy's, Frankie dettori, kilkenny this world all perform when the need is greatest and despite playing poorly and credit to Galway for not allowing cork play to their form, key key moments cork leaders stacks, corkery, flynn, Buckley stood tall and that's leadership
Backs to the wall, no real certainties in sport however kk hurling and cork almost as certain as dawn breaks day to show you the light as they are superb when your in a war.
Eammon Ryan deserves huge credit for the win again as he allows these players become what they become and such a humble guy with no ego allows players thrive
I wish other cork teams managers had no ego in their game.

Galway are a fine side play with such freedom, spirit, not prohibited at all but still have structure and organisations and play with real tempo their going to be a serious threat to cork this year and are a breath of fresh air for the championship, and I have huge respect for them, loosing to cork and on top of the league is dissapointing for them but I don't think it is a huge setback in the sending off will give them solace in that was a possible game changers so unlike Dublin, monaghan, kerry loosing to cork I don't think Galway young team will suffer too greatly and there going to be a serious threat to cork, but this is great for cork as cork always become better after any challenge and seem to reinvent themselves

One thing I noticed is at various stages while it's not said cork do at times play like a blanket as there was at various stages ten ladies in a zone defending their goal aera, and while women dont do the same contact as men defending cork ladies defend well in i notice each player seems know what their doing
And this was by far not their best defensive performance by large but you could still see plays they defended well, where when you look at cork men defending you can see the huge difference in structure and zonal marking
Cork ladies do it well at times, cork men should be able to do it but imo it comes down to coaching
Thrilling game and when by their own high high standard Valerie mulchay and sullivan didn't have their greatest games, they will have them again, great win for cork.
It was a game of great excitement.
It also this game showed how winning your kick ours are vital to primary possession and when cork pushed high end press helped by the numerical advantage cork really began in the last stages to win a lot of crucial ball.
This cork teams never panics or crumbles under pressure and that in any team is a reflection of outstanding management.
Congratulations to the camoige also, both to win and gain redemption for the shambles in both games going ahead the same day.
Well done to the ladies, the greatest cork football team ever, as I say every Xmas when I preview the cork season ahead in all teams, three teams I always say well get real value for money win or loose, the the cork under twenty one team, cork junior footballers in an odd year as we normally win the all Ireland the year after we have to field a new team in the even year and then the best til last the ladies team.
They all have great management so success is never far away.
A crying shame our remaining cork teams don't have management like these three.

One final note, Longford were destroyed by offaly in division league final just three weeks ago in croke park, by thirteen points.
In reference to cork waterford in the hurling I referenced that game here, in i said after Longford already beating them in the group league game it was clear as day, and I don't even follow Longford closely that they no way had a real focus or desire or want to perform v offaly, offaly won but made one critical mistake they hammered them with goals.
A false false dawn as couldn't even get one tonight.
Point I was making even in a division league game it's clear as day shadow boxing went on as both opponents played each other again three weeks later.
It could be argued as Longford had no chance winning even an o Byrne cup or any trophy, should won league division final, but point is championship took precedent over the league as there was a close proximity between both championship and league games

Cork v Waterford hurling imo is a similar precedent and just like Longford who were demolished cork have a point to prove so imo tonight shows the team that looses the league encounter certainly have the huge hunger and motivation for championship rematch just weeks later.

Shane Walsh is awesome player I'd agree he is just unreal
Id have him there but competition is very good at half back in minor but I agree when lad stands our senior club last two years should be minor panel surely
How did Glasgow do the ex Piarsaigh player

    Congratulations great win for bride
Brian Murphy is brilliant but I don't think he's any loss now to cork in cork have corner backs and Murphy If was fit likely played full back

How did cronin and o Neill play for the town
Lyons referring clare limerick next week so if he had a poor game as you say he needs to up he's game next week as it could be a tense enough affairs with both teams players and managers under huge pressure
