And knock €500 of that as well

why do they calculate an amount and then tell you they take €500 off?

I believe that is their "admin fee"

Sorry, should have said the rebate is €1500 minus the €500 admin leaving €1000. Either way it's nowhere near the €2400 mentioned.

Early 7 series with new test on the better side of €3k. What could possibly go wrong etc etc

Bonnetl looks like it isn't sitting right on that

Question. Why does everyone call cars buses?

I'm almost tempted to buy this, export it to Poland, convert it to LHD and sell for 6-7k.

    3k for car
    1k for shipping
    850e for taxes
    1100e for conversion

Gives total of 5950 minus the 1k tax rebate. So 1k profit either way.

Jaysus that's some amount of work for a max potential payout of €1k..... I can't see the LHD conversion being easy either!

Not worth it at all! If the payout was going to be €3-€4k then I'd consider!

Those are approximate values. These go for around 30k PLN with 140k miles on the clock (€7,500) and the conversion is a 7 day process. It's the workshop's problem, not mine :P

Shipping could be cheaper I suppose but that's what it would cost to drive it there.
And I suppose the car could be bought for €2,700 or even €2,500.

    The most optimistic calculations are

    Car: €2,500
    Shipping: €1k
    Taxes: €850
    LHD Conversion: €1,100
    VRT Rebate: -€1k

Giving you a total of €4,500. If you can sell it for €7,500, you're 3k ahead, all for a week's work.

There is one 735i I know of that's going for 2k sincr it has no NCT, but with its spec, it could fetch even 9k. This is boggo spec, not very popular on the continent as people aim for high spec cars in this class.

Arent they changing the law in poland to allow the reg of rhd cars?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,189 ✭✭✭✭unkel

I don't think cars are required to be LHD in Poland any more?

Edit: bear1 beat me to it :D

Sounds plausible. You would want to ensure that whoever does the conversion has done it before and gives a fixed price as I imagine that is where your potential nightmares would arise. BMW's are a fiendishly technical car. You would also need to scale to 3 or 4 cars to start bringing the shipping expense down to a manageable amount. Makes customs work easier too. You would probably need to reduce your selling price, as I imagine a converted car will be more difficult to shift than an original LHD. Make sure you factor for that so there are no surprises.

But, yeah, I think you might have something there, but you would really need to be sure of the local polish market - otherwise you would be just speculating. And that is risky!!

A quick look at autoscout shows quite a few 745 at arounf the 250k KM mark in the €5,000 to €6,500 range. Would it not be cheaper to import these into Poland?

Transport on average will be about €500-€600 depending on where the car is bought, taxes will be 1500 due to higher purchase price (polish VRT is dependant on engine size and purchase price - in this case 18.6% of the car's purchase price) so the total comes to a hefty €8,500 (based on a 6.5k car)

Granted, this would be better probably, but we do like a good deal.

There are two recommended workshops in Poland, one in Radom, the other one in Torun.
The one in Radom has been recommended by pretty much anyone on the Polish BMW scene (fun fact: most E36 M3s on Polish roads are in fact UK imports converted to LHD), but the guys in Torun have fixed prices and have done plenty conversions on even newer stuff like X6s and E65s.

The law hasn't been changed yet. It was supposed to change in January, but it hasn't yet. Approximate date is July this year.

Besides, given the way Polish people drive and the way our roads are built, I doubt there will be plenty people interested in a RHD car.

If tax is based on invoice rather than OMSP, then you probably have identified an arbitrage opportunity alright. But you would want to look into the economics of shipping from Germany or Holland or Belgium to be sure. :)

Pity it's just a V6, and it seems to be a very base spec Irish car. But if it really has full service history, it's some bargain!

    Looks nice,

ad says heated seats however there are no buttons on the door where they would normally be, which is odd.

    Just 38k miles

Asking €4,550 but that does include €600 tax left on the car if we take the sellers word for it (reg blanked)

    Linky to it

I'd probably be pretty tempted if something like this came along my way sometime next year...

Looks fantastic, but I would be looking for history to back up the mileage claim. Especially so if its a uk import. Looking at merlins auction recently, I'd say a good 50% of the imported mercs and beamers for sale were cat c or d. ( I know thats why they're being sent to auction rather than being retailed, but worth checking)

also theres a chance it only made it 65k miles due to being off the road with electrical issues , 2002-2003 are dicey years for e65's

Front mats are very dirty-looking for a car that has only done 38k.

if the lights weren't tinted and the roof was the same colour id agree, its half way between eastern european scum box and modern looking luxury.

Showing up as 2004 for me - both the written content of the ad and the pics have me leaning very much towards towards Eric Cartman's view!!

I quite like it to be honest... Skanger it down a bit and it would look great.
