OMG I'm torn between the 'I'm not supposed to comment on mods actions, right?' and 'Gotta say that made me laugh out quite loudly for real. And on a bus too!'

There was one particular keyboard warrior that rubbed me up the wrong way every day for a good while....... I used to cringe when he posted. Then he closed his account and I quite miss that annoying bastard ! :(

I reckon HatPatrick and matt_tracker are both joking. One of them has just taken the joke full throttle by complaining. Method acting sure

I've honestly no idea, as only they will know, but is a good reminder of what a fine line there can be between banter and something more

Its people who try unbelievably hard to fit into the PC brigade, even if it means continually arguing their point after they have been proven wrong that get to me.All just to get an imaginary pat on the back or a "like" from faceless internet posters.

They are the type that will put words in your mouth and then have a  smiley face at the end of their post in a vain attempt to make it look like they are "Holier than thou".

A poster on here once tried this on me because i claimed i was wrongly arrested one time...Then a couple months later i saw him brag about how he went murdering civilian women in Iraq! Its amazing what an internet persona can do for some people.

With the amount of posters who are so intent on being labeled into a particular category (conservative, liberal, middle class, working class etc..) coupled with how some people are clearly incapable of preventing themselves from making discussions personal, I'm surprised the place isn't full of feuds.

In my opinion, whatever issue debated in one thread should be left there, unless the issue in question is directly related somehow. Holding grudges over a difference in opinion is stupid, and those who do so, go down significantly in my estimation. Unfortunately, this is something that does occasionally occur on here, usually resulting in a minor passive aggressive internet "feud" of sorts.

I generally like to avoid confrontation, but I have no issue in pointing out various distraction tactics, pointless one liners or other underhanded techniques I've noticed that a poster frequently uses when in discussion to muddle the debate to their advantage. Something that sadly occurs much too often on this site. The dishonorable method of dragging up an unpopular post from an unrelated issue to discredit someone they are debating with is, in my eyes, one of the most pathetic and desperate things a person can do. To me, they are admitting that they cannot dispute the points the poster has made. They are like the wounded cowboy with no bullets throwing his gun at the enemy.

Closest thing to a feud I've been in? Another account where I disagreed with a particular poster over a certain issue. He couldn't articulate himself and his opinion was not well supported. He followed me around for awhile quoting my posts and responding with deliberately obtuse comments. He eventually got bored and stopped. Another poster threatened to kill me on here, but I think that was all just "Internet Hardman" stuff, I assume he may have some issues with anger though. I'm still alive anyway.

If someone wanted to have a feud with me, they would have to be extremely patient because it would take me about a week to come up with a good enough comeback :p .

Absolute bolsheviks very few label themselves , they get labeled . Commence feuding.

does an argument ever end with one person convincing the other person. the arguments seem to drag on and on, but seldom do i see one poster concede that they have accepted the other persons opinion.

Not exactly a fight, but a mildly amusing story.

On a different website, I worded a post badly that was meant as a joke (tone didn't shine through). Admin PM'd to say the person I had been replying to was really upset with me. I tried to apologise to them on the thread and the person said that it was upsetting them that I was dragging 'this' out publicly and had made it worse. I was terribly upset and embarrassed that a simple joke had been taken wrongly and that I was in so much trouble. I had made a lot of friends on the site (who I still talk to ten years later!) so I was even more embarrassed to think they could be seeing all of this.

Got another PM from the admin saying I was on the last straw. I messaged the girl I had upset, explained that I didn't mean to hurt her, very sorry, etc. Admin emails to say I shouldn't have contacted her and that my attempts to put the situation right were in vain, and with that I was banned!

Looking back, maybe I should have just ignored her and never tried to apologise. But looking back, I was a bit of a stupid eleven year old!

(That was also the site where I had my first internet crush. Oh Pokebill93. <3 )

Edit: Thought I'd add, I got very afraid that the Mammy would get a phone call from the Gardaí to say I'd been mean on the internet. Ha!

Jokes on the Internet can be dodgy. I was on a forum for a premier league club a few years ago. A buddy of mine posted a joke on FB, he was a Celtic fan. It was something to do with Rangers being relegated and Thatcher and Paisley being on the way out...... the treble was on.

It didn't go down well and I had to delete it. The other Irish lad on the forum liked it though.

to elaborate more on my 'give me a link' gripe.

    - Giving links as fact as part of healthy discussion is great
    - Giving a link to let a poster see some other scribing of your view, great.
    - Having an exhaustive debate where 2 sides refuse to budge and the last sentence in each rebuttal is give me a link from both sides, to the extent where neither side knows what they are arguing about any more and have in a somewhat reversal have fortunes unknowingly have met common ground but refuse to budge from the link stance. Brutal.

Then if a link is provided, the debate rages into the source and how reputable they are and all links are refused until the circle of life is complete and hakuna matata.

what invariably happens is that people get tired from arguing and cease posting.

Actually there's a thing now. I wonder has an argument or feud ever become so heated on Boards that two posters literally met up face to face to finally resolve it ?

Myself and another obvious wind up merchant were not subtlety threatened to come to his home address and "say it in my presence". This was all over the piss taking poster commenting Heil Hitler on the Stag in Prague thread involving the Hitler mask debacle.

I've never made it to a Boards beers, but I imagine that's the general purpose of such outings. ;)

One of the beauties of having a very poor memory, like me, is that you have no idea who you have fought with in the past....ignorance is bliss.

I think Aongus is an interesting case as he appears to be a constructed persona.
I'd assumed as much but after taking a look at his blog, it appears that he is indeed a real person, or at least, is impersonating a real person (which would obviously be far worse).

I always thought he was probably a deliberately exaggerated version of himself, and/or a combination of the traits of people he knows. I picture him like a celebrity doing a cameo as themselves and playing up to/against their public image. Except he's practically putting full time hours into it some weeks.

He's gas though, long live AvB
