    Can someone close this thread?

The same pattern has been repeating itself over 630 pages and will doubtless continue for the next 3 weeks.

The (mostly) dumb minority have had their posts ravaged by the (mostly) smug majority who then proceed to give each other metaphorical 'high fives'.

The referendum will be passed. In 2 years time nobody will remember what all the fuss was about.
I mostly agree, although the thread showed some signs of improvement after post 6310.

    ^^ Case in point

I said im voting yes because equality is important.

It's the state that has us where we are not joe public.

Sorry massa how you want me to speak?

So playing the "everyone who doesn't support the SSM referendum is homophobic "

Hang on, has anyone come up with a reason why denying LGBT people their rights is not homophobic yet?

I'll repeat the question again in the hopes this time you'll answer it. What do you think homosexuality is, if not natural?

Is it being attracted to someone of same sex? I've told you my opinions. I don't know what answer you want to hear.

Oh, dear. How these people react when things aren't going their way.

I'd point out that I didn't say you were particularly hubristic, but that would be pedantic.

What I certainly can see is all the agitated posts sparked by a banal comment.

You think far too highly of yourself if you assume that you have in any way agitated me. Look indeed at how you react when nobody is interested in discussing something which has no relevance to this referendum. You've been pushing it across a couple of threads now and you're getting nowhere with it, yet you still persist, despite knowing by now after being informed numerous times already that your issue has nothing to do with the referendum.

Your comment isn't banal. It's simply irrelevant to any discussion on the proposal being put forward in this upcoming referendum. How many more times are you going to try wedging it into this discussion?

It's a red herring. You know it, I know it. We all know it, so at this point perhaps you should drop the pedantry and try and engage productively in the discussion rather than referring to anyone who doesn't feel a need to entertain you as 'children'.

He has a point. Sometimes the over the top sarcasm is a bit unneeded, and really open to mis-interpretation.

Oh I don't know Links, I've been out canvassing a fair bit around Cork, and while I have come across quite a few outright No people, I've met a few in the middle who just aren't too sure. Some of them have misinterpretations about the issues, and some have been blatantly lied to and fed a lot of propeganda, or they were raised in a certain way.

In some cases, I'd say some of the possible No voters are not directly homophobic, but are misguided.

Because there is no right to SSM

    Right so.

Do you realise how ignorant and dis-empowering it is to tell a minority group how they ought to articulate their experience of discrimination and then to try and patrol how they ought to seek equality?

Do you understand that having people smile in your face and talk politely all the while arguing for the state to continue to legally enforce your status as a second class citizen is deeply, profoundly hurtful? Do you understand why on occasion some of us might lose our patience and lash out? After all in spite of our homosexuality we are just human at the end of the day?

But, sure, it's evident. You, and the rest of the gaggle, wouldn't be investing so much effort in pursuing my posts if ye weren't agitated.

Over a perfectly banal statement. Exactly what I expected.

FFS. How on Earth is satire referencing similar attitudes to race relations racism? Once more (black) Jesus weeps.

Well articulate yourself then and don't post bollox

    It's not very hard.

It's 2015 equality is and has for a long time been a right.

Neither sides are covering themselves in glory.

Don't try and beat a moron (no side) at their own game they have more experience at it.

You expected people to engage in a discussion with you, on a discussion forum...

How long did it take you to figure that out if you don't mind my asking?

Oh, not long at all. It just occured, looking at the way the debate was going, "you know, these people are in a state of mind were they'll try to refute a perfectly banal statement".

    And so it was.

Incidently, this part of our dialogue isn't boring for anyone else. And you don't seem a bit agitated.

But I think I might just go and clip my toenails. Maybe check in tomorrow, unless there's a rerun of "Criminal Minds" on somewhere.

That reminded me of a quote I saw in somebody's signature:

"Never argue with an idiot. They will only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

    :pac:

That's not aimed at anyone here - I just like that quote! :D

One can't purchase understanding. You can engage in a non-confrontational way with those who are trying to have discussion with you as equals. Can you do that or not?
