If the Browns trade up to #2 to take Mariota, they're idiots.

Why take Manziel last year if you know Mariota is your guy? I don't think I'll ever understand that Front Office.

I think we can make that pronouncement now to be honest, without that last shred of evidence.

Didn't you hear? Manziel sent them a text last year! A text! They could hardly turn him down at that stage, could they?

They're positively "Raideresque", mind you at least Al used to covet speed above all else. However bad that rationale was, its more than the Browns front office possess!

The browns covet bad quarterbacks above all else.

The thing with that Titans/Browns potential trade is that the Titans GM has said there's only 15 or 16 players in this draft with a first round grade. So essentially #19 is a 2nd round pick for them based on their board.

Poor Mariota if he gets drafted there though. They'll ruin him.

Went reading the reddit thread on the potential Browns trade, and my Jesus, found a link to this absolute gem of a comment.

Guy goes on one hell of an epic rage analysis of the Browns QB history.

Same poster is in the original thread going on more rants about how incompetent the Browns FO is. Its absolutely glorious! :pac:

Everybody, and I mean everybody, is giving Giants Scherff. Think even Justin Pugh was talking about him in his last media outing.

I honestly don't know what to make of it. I suppose it fills a need, and if Giants don't trade back, and I can see why they go for him.

    Andrus Peat for me. :)

Higgins and Knex, who are your ideal picks for the Giants in the 1st?

I love Ereck Flowers. He is a guaranteed hit as an OG but has potential to be the best LT in football. Obviously Williams or Fowler would be the dream but they should be long gone and we are very unlikely to trade up. Outside of that I wouldn't have an issue with Danny Shelton as he should make the job alot easier for our mediocre LB corp. If we go o-line and don't take Flowers I wouldn't mind Peat as the alternative.

I know Knex has a feeling that Cooper or White will be on the board and that we would have the option to trade back.

Yeah, I'm hoping we get the option to trade back. I think this year there's not a whole bunch of talent jumping out to me in areas where we need it, but then positions like DE, LB, and even OL, there's value to be had in the 2nd. You can still get an impact player at the end of the first too, of a similar quality to what we would have available and suitable at 9, imo.

Shelton I would be happy with, if we don't trade down.

i really dont want him to the giants if that team solidifies the o-line thats a serious offence and his floor seems pretty high.

also the giants selecting 0-line or d-line scares me in general seems to be what all your recent success has been build around

Its definitely two areas we need to concentrate on improving, that's for sure. Probably priorities aside from Safety.

I just worry about using the 9th overall pick on a guy who can only play Guard.

ya i feel like he's being a tad overrated due to what zach martin did last year who would you go for at 9 yourself? and who do you feel the giants fo will go for?

If we take Waynes at 7 I'll be smashing the tv screen

I'm honestly hoping we can work a trade and come down a few spots. Had hoped Browns would trade either 12 or 19 with us, and then I'd feel more comfortable with taking Scherff. We might still have the option to trade if someone like White is still on the board at 9, and I think we'd get great value then if that does happen. Dream scenario though.

Shelton I think would be a good fit for us, although he keeps talking about 3-4 defences, and has also talked about the Bears. Nothing about Giants, not that that really matters, I suppose.

Be very interesting to see what defensive ends are still about when we pick as well. Wonder the value Giants place on Gregory, at the moment, and if they'd be willing to pull the trigger then. But once again, he's someone I can see being around if we did trade down a couple of spots, and also, you could have Shane Ray on the board when Giants go again at 40.

So yeah, I'm all for drafting more draft picks with our 9th :p

But the talk out of loads of teams picking early is of looking to trade down, how ideal that would be. The reason they want to do it is because they don't see much value, so it's hard to see why any team would want to trade up to seven, or nine. Doesn't mean it wont happen, especially if mariota drops, but if someone wanted to trade up for him they'd go higher than seven to do it.

what time does the draft kick off tonight?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 950 ✭✭✭nasty_crash

wouldnt be surprised if neither white or cooper didnt go in the top 4 - winston, mariota, folwer, williams - if that happens you might see some teams scramble to move up - thats when those teams open to trade would be in play

I am puzzled by one thing this year. As I look at it from a high level comparing the top two projected QBs.
Marcus Mariota has higher pass completion, lower interceptions and is more athletic. The combination of all three gives at least some level of confidence in his NFL potential.
Jameis Winston has a better W - L record but is significantly lower than Mariota in those three areas. So is it simply Winstons superior W - L record that has him projected as possible no. 1? Surely this is in part the contribution of his team rather than his quarter back value in that W - L record?
Many of his interceptions the receiver was closed early i.e. I'd be suprised at NFL level to see quarter back stick with the option and throw the ball. You don't throw the ball into heavy coverage unless you have a tall receiver you are confident can win it contested.

We should just have a thread on saying draft starts at 1am ,coverage at 12 and be done with it!

One played under centre and went though progressions, one didn't (not fully anyway) to put it very short and sweetly.

Think Winston is a stand in the pocket and deep passer more than mariota - mariota wants to do a lot more option plays and has the speed etc for it - tampa have evans - jackson - jenkins(i think - 2nd round pick last year) as wrs so they want to air the ball out to these guys! Thats why he is gonna go 1
