The Browns paid more than a 1st rounder. If you remember they moved from 4 to 3 by trading with the Vikings

    So Trent Richardson cost the Browns;
    1st-round pick (4th overall)
    4th-round pick (118th overall)
    5th-round pick (139th overall)
    7th-round pick (211th overall)

It was a pointless move as the Vikings of all 32 teams league were never going to draft a back and unlikely anyone would jump ahead of the Browns.

The Vikings got their target Matt Kaliel and turned the picks into Jarius Wright WR and Robert Blanton safety. Not sure about the 7th rounder

    Same old Browns, sigh

    Some notes from Matt Miller:

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2445655-2015-nfl-draft-matt-millers-final-scouting-notebook
    — In case you missed it, I reported Monday that multiple NFL teams want to draft Dorial Green-Beckham in the first round, but ownership has squashed those plans. In fact, one high-level source of a top-15 team told me this weekend they were flat-out told "no" by ownership about drafting Green-Beckham in the first round.

    — The Oakland Raiders are a wild card in the first round, and sources with the team tell me coaches in Oakland have fallen in love with Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper. If he's on the board with pick No. 4, he could be a surprise option over USC defensive lineman Leonard Williams.

    — Two offensive guards—Florida State's Tre' Jackson and Alabama's Arie Kouandjio—have failed multiple team physicals due to chronic knee problems, per team sources. There are always draft-week surprises when high-caliber players aren't drafted due to injuries, and the two guards are potentially in that category right now.

    — The consensus pick for the San Francisco 49ers at No. 15 has become Oregon defensive lineman Arik Armstead, and I'm told by sources close to the team that he is indeed a target for them if they don't trade up or down in the first round.

    — Jameis Winston kind-of-sort-of made news last week when he told Jim Harbaugh in an ESPN draft special, Draft Academy, that he had a "hook up" at Publix to receive free goods—like the crab legs he was cited for shoplifting. This is consistent with the story I'd heard back when the incident happened, and if you think this isn't common for athletes at colleges, and even high schools, you're mistaken. It's very common, and it's not something NFL teams will care about.

    — I continue to hear from league and team sources that the Cleveland Browns want to trade up for quarterback Marcus Mariota. The sticking point will be the cost to do so. But here's another scenario being floated by a high-level team source: The New York Giants and Browns have had initial talks about the Giants trading back in Round 1.

    — How do the Browns feel about Mariota? I spoke with a coach who couldn't go on record and asked him to describe Mariota with one word. "Outstanding" was his reply.

    — One more Browns note: Team sources tell me they don't expect free safety Tashaun Gipson to be back in 2016. The belief is he'll price himself out of their range.

    — Michigan edge-rusher Frank Clark is moving up boards, per a team source. "He won't get outside the third round is our feeling," says the same source.

    — Where will Todd Gurley be drafted? I asked two scouts this week. One replied, "Top 10 wouldn't shock me." The other? "I'm really not buying all this top 10 talk." Welcome to draft season.

    — Speaking of Gurley, I'm told his knee checked out better than expected. One team source I spoke to said Gurley could play for them Week 1.

    — Damarious Randall has been such a hot property in the last month that as the predraft meeting deadline approached April 22, two teams told me he couldn't find time to meet with every team requesting him.

    — What about Nebraska edge-rusher Randy Gregory? I spoke with four teams and they all expect him to be selected outside the top 10, but all four scouts confirmed he's still a first-round player.

    — The Philadelphia Eagles are being connected to Central Florida wide receiver Breshad Perriman, per several general managers I spoke with this week. I was reminded that head coach/general manager Chip Kelly loves speed, and Perriman's 4.26 40-yard dash has put him in the first-round conversation.

    — Lance Zierlein of NFL Media reported that Missouri edge-rusher Shane Ray may need foot surgery on an injury that has limited him all offseason. In talking to multiple scouts once the news broke, they each relayed that Ray is still among their top 10 players.

    My final mock...

    Bucs - Jameis Winston
    Titans - Marcus Mariota
    Jags - Dante Fowler Jr
    Raiders - Amari Cooper
    Redskins - Leonard Williams
    Jets - Bud Dupree
    Bears - Kevin White
    Falcons - Vic Beasley
    Giants - Brandon Scherff
    Rams - Andrus Peat
    Vikings - DeVante Parker
    Browns - Danny Shelton
    Saints - La'El Collins
    Dolphins - Trae Waynes
    49ers - Arik Armstead
    Texans - Nelson Agholor
    Chargers - Todd Gurley
    Chiefs - Marcus Peters
    Browns - Breshaud Perriman
    Eagles - Byron Jones
    Bengals - Jake Fisher
    Steelers - Kevin Johnson
    Lions - Malcolm Brown
    Cardinals - DJ Humphries
    Panthers - Ereck Flowers

    Cowboys - Eric Kendricks
    Broncos - Cameron Erving
    Colts - TJ Clemmings
    Packers - Eddie Goldman
    Saints - Randy Gregory
    Patriots - Laken Tomlinson

Trades take too much time and thinking.

    Bold Predictions:
Damarious Randall gets drafted before Landon Collins
Shane Ray falls to the mid 2nd round
Redskins actually trade out of five

    Here's my latest mock.

I'll probably change it slightly tomorrow after getting a chance to watch a bit more tape and hearing some of the tidbits of information from analysts etc. It'll no doubt be blown up very quickly when someone makes a trade, buy anyway:

I'm far too tired to write an explanation for each pick as I usually would do, but any thoughts/critique?

Its always hard to say really but I think you're underselling how big a jump it is. Last year the Bills moved only 5 spots and gave up two firsts and a fourth rounder.

The fact the Browns are making a bigger jump to no.2, taking a franchise QB and are only giving up two picks outside of the top 10 means I'd be expecting more to be honest.

Call me crazy but Mariota to me has Aaron Rodgers like upside. You're moving up for a franchise QB and I reckon he's more respected by NFL scouts then the media seems to believe. Titans can at least get something for 2016 out of them imo.

you could well be right i thought the bills where insane for what they gave up as well but in fairness i thats two cases so i could be off.

i guess it depends how many teams are looking to get him you have the browns if you can get another two teams then you have a bidding war and could come away with a franchise changing haul.

heres an interesting question though if you where the titans gm and the browns offer was the only one you got what would you do?

    would you trade back?
take mariota yourself and hope someone trades for him then?
or take a fowler or williams?

Think we agree on a lot of things.

Personally would be shocked if PJ Williams goes first round. Jalen Collins theres a chance but It'd surprise me a bit too.

What do I know though! Only takes one team to like a player.

Is the La'El Collins drop down to the murder situation or ability on the field?

Would the Ravens go for DGB Paully?

He sure fits a need for a No 1 receiver but aren't they terrified of potential bad publicity these days? 3 players cut this off season for off the field issues

The owner is hands off but he has input too

Yeah a lot of variables that can alter things so its reckless speculation really!

Personally I wouldn't think twice, I'd stay put and draft Mariota. By the sounds of things I rate Mariota higher than the Titans seem to though. I don't believe Whisenhunt is too keen on that type of QB. You've the likes of Hackenberg and Cook in the 2016 QB class who are the type of pocket passers Whisenhunt is after. Titans may well be tempted.

Personally though I'm jumping at the chance of drafting Mariota.

Would be happy to see the Giants trade down with the Browns, tbh.

Trade down, get an extra 3rd, for example, and someone like Gregory could still be on the board.

id be shocked if gregory got to the 3rd, stupidity or no stupidity he's arguably the best pass rusher in the draft

Didn't mean Giants getting him in 3rd, sorry. Meant at the Browns 12th or 19th!

Just assumed we'd get a 3rd either this year or next for the trade.

Yeah, I was compiling mine when you posted yours so I only saw it when I had posted mine. Was interesting to see that we had quite a few similar. Is that a good sign or a bad sign for us though? :pac:

It was just purely down to team needs, questions over whether he fits best as a T or G, and the way the dominos fell really. For example, of the teams that overlook him in my mock - I feel the Giants, Panthers, Lions, Broncos and Colts would prefer pure T's, while the Browns rank Scherff as better. The Saints are happy to take him at #31 even if he's "only" a (very good) G, especially considering Grubbs has gone.

Ideally I'm sure Ozzie and co might like to have another option but in my mock he's the BPA in my opinion. All the best CB's are off the board which is our biggest need. I actually have Green-Beckham as the #1 receiver in the draft based on talent alone but as Cooper, White and Parker will go ahead of him he's certainly the best WR left at this stage in my mock and by some distance too.

Unless I've missed something (which is entirely possibly) he seems to have checked out off-the-field during the process in terms of nothing new cropping up. His older brother has reportedly moved in with him and he has got himself on the right track. I think we take a shot in that situation :)

I guess Eli Harold might be tempting too?

Really? I'd take Strong or Perriman ahead of him and I hate Perriman.
I think he used his speed to bail him out in college, couldn't gain any separation against a decent CB, he can't do that playing alongside real NFL corners. he also runs 2 routes and doesn't even do them very well. Lost a year due to NCAA transfer rules so he's behind other prospects.
The off field concerns: Marijuana early on and then forced open an apartment door and shoved a woman down a flight of stairs, he got dismissed from Missouri (?) and then transferred.
If there wasn't so much hype he wouldn't get drafted until day 3 but because he's 6' 6'' and had decent production in that offense. I'd flip out if they drafted him and I can see him sliding on draft day. He could be very good with some work but I can't see it.

ya I'm not so sure if i like it i really really like kendricks and even though we have 3 starting caliber mlbs the other two are both coming off injuries and mufasa possibly has only one year left.

but having said that its a fair deal on both sides i think so hard to argue with if chip feels he can get a starter there.

mike mayocks doing his final mock draft on nfl network starting in a few mins if anyones interested.

No point in Cleveland having 2 firsts again anyway. They'll always find a way to mess up.

Coming away from the first round with Gilbert and Manziel. Ugh. Imagine being a fan of that organisation.

It could have been worse, could have been Richardson and Weed-oh.

Lots of chat the Titans and Browns will do a deal, their first 2 picks this year and a 1st rounder next year id expect

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,395 ✭✭✭✭mikemac1

    Titans should snap that up!

Another year for Mettenberger to see how he goes and there are some good QBs in 2016 if they want to go that way

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 21,819 Mod ✭✭✭✭helimachoptor

Better get a lot of picks if we trade, most exciting draft ever!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,333 ✭✭✭brinty

    Draft day baby..,
Gonna be boring as a cowboys fan
No Johnny football type excitement this year
Most people suggesting randy Gregory, jalen Collins, marcus peters or Byron Jones depending on whose on the board
We're gonna be pretty quiet take our pick and see what happens Over the weekend

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,475 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

This offseason has been great. The Draft I can only see adding to that.

    Not long more to wait!
