There are more than three weeks. THREE WEEKS until the referendum. I shudder to think what the No side will come out with in that time.
I honestly have massive respect for those people on here and beyond who will be massively effected (hopefully positively) by the result of this referendum. I'm straight and have no one especially close to me who is gay, yet I can feel myself getting angry when I see not only the sheer level of abuse directed towards gay people on this thread especially, but also the posters who like to back them up by crying foul when others call their abuse and lies out.
How you stay almost 100% civil to these people I will never understand. You guys and girls have patience I can only dream of.

That or.......maybe, just maybe it's just a hugbox i.e echo chamber.

We've a lot of posters on standby ready to flatten an opinion that doesn't fall into line. Mostly with snark which seems to the only basis for a fool proof argument from they yes side.

There have been plenty of people here (including myself) politely addressing peoples concerns about this referendum. TBH they were all addressed about 400 pages ago. It's the same thing over and over again people saying they are voting no and then they are suddenly shocked and offended when people ask them why and challenge them for those reasons. I mean what else would you expect on a public forum?

When people start comparing you to paedophiles, incestuous relationships, questioning your ability to have a relationship, questioning your parenting skills, questioning your value in society and then turn around and have the audacity to act like they are the victims of a situation where they get to vote on what you should and shouldn't be allowed to do, that tends to make you a little snarky.

Besides this snarkiness exists on both sides, you just have to read the last few bontymurns posts to see that.

You sure about that? I genuinely haven't been able to think of anything that elaborates to any level of detail beyond "I am voting no" which is not immediately insulting to someone.

Yes. I have actually heard people do it - didn't agree with them but they were perfectly polite.

If you haven't seen all the insults on social media... fair play, you're better off.

That's not to say there aren't people acting the dick on the yes side, but every so often a voice pipes up to defend the no side from the awfulness of the yes side, as if the poor little no side is a bunch of delicate flowers that never hurt anyone, when there are elements within it who are quite the opposite.
I'm not saying those defenders are homophobes or even no voters - if anything they're just doing a clumsy job of being devil's advocate.

This. The people who rush to defend the no side from snark by the yes side (yet who strangely don't do the reverse) can see full well the tactics used by elements of the no side. It's like they're going against the grain of logic for the craic.

I'm voting Yes but I'm fancying a flutter down the bookies on the No side. Ironically, this idea is being floated in every pub within half a mile of Georges St. D2 (.ie Gay / Liberal / Communist /devil worshipping HQ Ireland).
So do vote No, you'll be making us Dublin pagans rich into the bargain. We always win.

Yeh I switch off too at this stage, but I don't understand why that should cause a person not to vote.

Because there was no "Atari Rules"option

Please don't. This is an honest request. Please make up your mind on how the referendum is going to affect lives. The result is going to change the lives of people, people like me, family members, friends. Don't change your mind out of spite. Just please consider making your choice on what you feel is right.

It appears that we may need to have a Sense of Humour Equality Referendum as well. Gays should have a right to get jokes too.

Jokes don't often translate well across the internet and I've heard a lot of things from people I thought would know better lately about the referendum so you'll have to forgive me. Emotions can run high when equality and rights are involved.

So the poll here is running at about 75% for the Yes vote. How close do do people think that represents the registered electoral population? I'm guessing the poll here might be representative of the 18-50 age group but that the 50+ group would be more conservative and likely to vote No thus bringing down the real world ratio of Yes to No to something closer to maybe 60% or 65%?

Are there any recent polls to compare the Boards poll to?

Latest one now from the anti water crowd is to push a no vote as the referendum failing would bring down the government.

    idiots.

The bookies have the over/under line at 61.5%, have to say that's a reasonable projection. Took a flutter on the unders, I'd imagine it'll pass but it'll be something like 57%/43%

Dominoes pizza is apparently distributing "No" flyers (complete with the insulting 'children need two parents' claptrap) along with their pizza menus.

Shame, I liked Dominoes, but no more of it for me.

    Thanks for the clarification.

Good to know that my Firenze is totally apolitical.

Ive had a lot of people mail me saying the leaflets arrived with their orders last night. Dominos drivers work for dominos so its not like its an accident in fairness.

Me three, being serious. I am sick to the back teeth of people, politicians in particular, yabbering on about it. I see 'Mrs. Brown' has launched her 'Yes' campaign too! I know what way I am going to vote and have done from day one. Therefore, I decided to ignore any media, as much as possible, in relation to the matter. As a matter of interest, what is the voting split like at the moment? I was under the impression that it is a comfortable 'Yes' but the last poll I looked at was taken some time ago.

I've seen tons of people (not rain) tearing down No-Vote posters all around Dublin. Why aren't people outraged about that?

I wouldn't be surprised if the story about leaflets turned out true, considering their founder.

I will not be voting as this does not effect me and it is none of my business. It is up to gays themselves to vote if they want to marry and adpot.

I did not know that. As I said I am not interested in gay matters, so it is up to them to decide. I won't be getting involved.

The question of whether or not all citizens are treated equally is not a 'gay' matter no more than it is a 'black' matter or a 'Jewish' matter - it is a human matter.

Furthermore, all citizens who can vote- and are registered to do so - get to decide so really what your saying is you can't be bothered.

I am commonly seeing double standards regarding tearing down campaign posters.

I think it wrong. People should stop it.

    Strategically, it isn't wise either.

What do you think about the content of the posters being torn down? Lets say, the one about surrogacy? I think it is deliberately misleading and scaremongering. What do you think?

Saw some guy doing the same with Yes posters in Cork. Also someone defacing them with stickers with religious quotes.

Honestly, I'll be glad when 22nd has passed too. I'm starting to be a bit sick of the debate myself. It's been rolling on for way too long largely, I suspect because Enda took a while for the focus groups to tell him which way the wind was blowing !! This referendum probably should have taken place in 2014.

It'll most likely pass and we'll be thinking back to that mad era when we even had people debating it! I mean when you think back to the divorce referendum it seems like it's from another era / world!!
