Was thinking of going to the Sultan lebenese restaurant tonight. Is it busy on a Saturday? Heard the food was good but don't want to go there is there is no atmosphere

Whilst I can't answer your question I have been meaning to go in for a sit down myself. Big fan of Sultan based on the markets - ordered take away via JustEat the other night and have to say - their kebabs were fantastic

They came individually packaged i.e. the wraps, chicken, lettuce, sauces - all separate so as not to have a soggy kebab arrive at your home. Would recommend & will update on the dine in situation if I get a chance to go there soon

Very disappointing meal in Blackrock Castle Cafe today. Poor service, average food. Wouldn't be pushed to go back at all.

I was there just last month for lunch and thought it was excellent. It can be crazy busy in there at times but the service is always top notch (as is the food).

Sure wasn't when I was there. And the goats cheese bread and butter pudding was one of the worst things I ate in quite a while.

What on earth is that... Dessert or savoury? Bread, custard, raisins and cheese? Sounds yuck.

Couldn't tell ya if it's busy on a Saturday as that's a working day for me, but I can tell you that the food is pretty savage. My favorites are the shawarma, the hummus (preferably the one with lamb mince on it) and the baklava made by the owner's wife. The service has always been flawless when I've been there to top it off, with the owner remembering me from 3 months back(!).

As an fyi, it's alcohol free.

Pity to hear, I wouldn't be a fan of that style desert myself either. You should have got the chocolate and raspberry torte with hazelnut base :D Heaven on a plate.

    It was a starter!

Doh, I read pwurples comment and thought it was a desert... some sort of cross between a bread & butter pudding and a cheese board. Sounds like weird combination to me anyway.

To be fair I've had nice meals in Blackrock before. Could have been an off day.

Had lunch in Zamora on Academy street today, pleasantly surprised. Enjoyed it.

What kind of food is it?

It's a Mediterranean wine bar vibe, lunch had a nice mix, I had a seared beef salad. Menu us up online I think.

Zamora gets the thumbs up from me. Very pleasant setting, nice vibe, nice friendly staff and owner.

Very very tasty dishes and reasonably priced. Not huge portions but you don't need any more.

While I'm at it. Had lunch in Rising Tide last week and it was amazingly poor. Miniscule portions of the roast beef lunch and a very average burger with frozen skinny chips on the side with a few leafs of lettuce! Wouldn't be going back.

Gello & Gellati gets a thumbs up from me.

The pleasant looking Claire Byrne was there last night also and looked happy as well so that's that.

    It's a great place.

Eat in the Rochestown Park on Saturday and found it disappointing, dry chicken and tiny portions for the price. On the plus having a toddler the bar area is great with plenty of space and no steps.
Next day had the Sunday lunch in Farm in Clonakilty and it was far cheaper, better quality, cooked to perfection and delicious.

Called into the Rising Sons on Sunday for a pizza, and while it was nice the lady serving or taking orders for food wasn't great. She told us if was out fault that they more or less forgot our pizza, tables were dirty and way too many tvs in the place.. Nice but I wouldn't rush back in there for something like this..

Anyone been to El Vino's in the Elysian recently thinking about trying it at the weekend

    Hi all,

Thinking of heading to Oysters in the Clarion - I've heard great things. Is it all that good?

    Thanks,
    Loire.

I like it.. their soups (gazpacho, veloute and chowder) are really delicious. I'd advise adding a mini-taste of one of those to your meal, I think they have that option. Haven't been in over a year now mind.

I'd actually heard it had closed or reduced hours, must be just a rumour.

Somebody here claimed it was closed last December. Said they were taking over Annie's in Sunday's Well. Their website is still up, and doesn't indicate that they've closed, but the Clarion Hotel website doesn't mention it existing either. There are 3 trip advisor reviews this year... One says it's closed, the others seemed to enjoy their meal :pac:. So best ring to see if they're open before getting your hopes up :)

Didn't hear about it closing, shame..

We went in there a good few months ago and well the first time we went we had voucher and it was more like a pick n mix that we got and it was lovely, the second time was for the full menu. it was lovely but the main course was a bit of a let down. Very over salted but then I did say it to the waitress and she took it all in, said no it was better to say it than not and they gave us free drinks.

    Thanks

Went to Chili Padi on Father Mathew street today for lunch, had their daily special beef with ginger and spring onions, came with a drink and a soft serve ice cream do-it-yourself style for 8 euros. Food comes in take out boxes and there are bowls on the tables that you can use, like the concept. The food was nice, quick service, big portions and I they seem to do both take out and deliveries via just-eat as well. Will definitely be going back to try the pho!

We got take out from the Balincolig one - 8 adults - a couple of ok dishes- but no good one - wouldn't be tempted to try it again .

Totally different model - Chili Padi's food is actually good.

Yes, Ramen was the first in Cork but they stole the idea from elsewhere and are now being beaten on quality and price (in the case of Aroi).
I think the food in Ramen is rubbish and poor value.

I believe Pho on Douglas Street is gone. Sorry for them but the food wasn't very good imo.

I've really liked Chili Padi and Aroi. New place, Box Noodle open where the Ambassador was - same idea, complete with ice cream cone. Had one good dish there and one poor. I'll give them another chance.
    I haven't tried Malay Kitchen

Any other new Asian Street food places?

No offense, but you must have some strange palate if you think there's a large difference between Chilli Padi and Ramen.

There is a huge difference between Chilli Padi and Ramen. I wouldnt regard myself as having a strange palate at all!

No offence taken. The quality of ingredients and the authenticity of styles are miles apart if you are familiar with the cuisine.

Mmmm have to say no to El Vino.... I do think the cheese platter they do is loverly so maybe nice for that and some wine but the main food nope. I got golden fried brie pretty standard stuff and its just odd its battered more than crumbed, then crab claws which were a let down..

I know seafood is salty but jes they had overloaded the sauce and they whole dish with salt. even got a side of chips that was the same...

waiter was loverly will give him that but food nope not worth it
