We could have two daddy's in court - regardless of whether or not SSM is voted in. There are already almost 300 families in Ireland with Same Sex parents. You don't have to be married to have children.

Apparently you do. You also can't claim to be a family unless you have children. And they have to be your own biological children too. I am learning so much today! :P

I'm voting no, there ya go, I just said it! Not a bigot, not a homophobe, not a practicing Catholic, just think that children is EVERYTHING to do with marriage, and equating a family with two fathers, or two mothers, to a family where the child is being raised by its biological parents, is one of the silliest things I have ever heard.

And the yes folks banging on like raging lunatics that this referendum has NOTHING to do with children, that's just a downright insane argument to ask anyone to believe and trying to argue otherwise in my eyes has discredited everything about the yes campaign. It is also ridiculous that this forum, where I am anonymous, is the only place I can state these genuinely held views without invoking bile and rage down on top of myself, such is the level aggression that is fueling the yes campaign.

I've tried looking at this from every single angle and there is just no way I can see how giving gay people the right to a recognition of their family within our constitution, makes one single iota of sense.

This is about the selfish need of people who cannot, as a matter of human design, ever create children within their own relationship, wanting to turn nature and biology on its head and demand that they can not just have children, (and they can), but then demand that we now recognise them on the very same terms as a family that can procreate and create children from within their own relationship, and not just that, but that we now give them constitutional protection as well? Seriously?!? If it wasn't such a serious matter it would be hilarious.

So you recognize that gay people have families but think that those families should have no protection under the constitution. You think that it is against human design for homosexuals to have the same natural and biological desires that heterosexuals have with regard to including children within families they form. You think that homosexuals in the YES vote campaign are banging on like raging lunatics that the referendum on marriage has nothing to do with children, that their argument is insane.

Personally speaking, when some-one start's describing people on the YES campaign (straight or gay) as raging lunatics banging on with a downright insane argument, I get the idea that the writer is expressing a P.O.V. in a rather excited manner, whatever about it bringing bile and rage down on YES campaigners in an aggressive manner.

I don't think that being either anonymous or overt with your personal identity will protect you from bile and rage down on your head, rather that the O/P's here will treat you with decency regardless on how you view their sanity.

I have been incarcerated for standing up for my rights..is that good enough?

And as I said...wait for the legal quagmire when you have 2 daddy's in court..

So you've been burned by the legal system and are going to throw your toys out of the pram and deny same sex fathers the right to marry out of what...jealousy? Are you mature enough to mind a goldfish let alone a child??? You're coming across as really petty and immature. You might actually be in a better position to get rights if the referendum passes but you can't see beyond your own anger can you?

I'm just calling a spade a spade...that toys and pram shot is a bit worn at this stage. Do you use that in every argument?

To be honest I'd sooner marry my dog..I'd have less shīte to deal with!!

I'm straight, I'm single, I would love to have kids, but I have the grace to accept that it hasn't happened for me. I genuinely don't get the obsession people these days have with having children. If I was in your situation, I'd be very wary of the fact that my child will at some stage want to reach out and find it's biological other parent.

What has this to do with SSM?

Its about looking at the bigger picture, improve the rights for one group of parents and it gives you a better platform to improve the rights of others but I guess you're too bitter to see that.

Were you/did you listen to Ronan this morning? Apparently you don't have a constitutional right to procreate here unless you are married. God, all the other creatures don't know how good they've got it compared to humans, no need for a licence :D

The fact that you're arguing against marriage rights for gay people because the government hasn't put an issue that affects you first is pretty much the definition of petty and immature, yes.

I actually agree with you on the fathers rights issue. I just don't see what the ever loving fuck it has to do with this referendum.

It's the cart before the horse...you just can't see that..

Your're voting no because you feel single straight dads don't have enough legal rights. In other words if you can't have it no one can. What would you call it?

I think they are saying you are petty and immature because you keep discussing the issues with rights of single fathers in relation to SSM but you refuse to explain with any clarity how this is linked to SSM. Your argument seems to be that you are voting No because you feel we should be having a referendum about something completely different. Rather than insult people maybe you could explain clearly how allowing SS couples to get married impacts the rights of Single Fathers?

It's clear from what you have been saying that you have been through the mill and clearly the rights of single fathers is something that you feel passionate about. But stopping other people get married because of this does sound a little petty. I am genuinely interested to hear how you feel there is a link, but you have not shown this in any of your posts so far.

As for rights..We have sweet FA rights. If you are a gay man and this referendum goes through..you may learn about it...the hard way.

It means his issue should come before other people's. For reasons yet to be elucidated.

    It should yeah

For the millionth time - no one in straight or gay has to be married in order to become a parent. There are already SS parents in Ireland - around 300 families.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 397 ✭✭Blahblah2012

But it isn't. And unfortunate as that is, it's a reason to be angry at the government, not gay people.

I'm not angry at gay people. Although your cause isn't mine...but my cause could easily be yours!!

Now S.O, you know you're telling lies there. They are not yes campaigners, they are anarchists. A transcript of the video itself even tells you this -
As anarchists, we believe that anybody should feel empowered to alter public spaces however they see fit.

It's not like nobody pointed that out in the thread already...

    Oh wait -

Notwithstanding the fact that you have no idea where these people align themselves politically (could easily be anarchists - they have no political allegiances, they will tear down both yes and no campaign posters, just for shìts 'n' giggles), you're completely missing the point of why people who are campaigning for marriage equality - because Irish society is not a democracy when all citizens are not represented equally in society.

If people tearing down posters is distasteful to your idea of a democracy, how does continuing discrimination against citizens of that society square with your idea of a democracy?

I'd respectfully suggest you give some thought to the bigger picture and the long term future of society before you allow yourself to be upset or offended by a couple of weeks of offensive behaviour after years of discrimination in a society that you thought was a democracy.

Your pants must be well on fire at this point with the amount of outright and blatant lies you're posting here :pac:

It won't make any difference...If it's a no vote...we'll be told to vote again until we get it right anyway
