I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

Why should Cavan people be generous to rich train travellers, there's no train in Cavan.

Maybe ask yourself....what are YOU on about.

I know it exists but I doubt Heir Von Bismarck has been aboard such an opulent beast.

    Now calm your motherfcuking tits.

he says he has, so therefore he has. until you can prove otherwise, you will believe him

It's up to him to prove it. The lack of proof serves as my proof.

Il grow up when you untwist your Von Bismark knickers.

    Adieu mon ami, bon chance.

I wouldn't mind the price so much if they're not like Iarnrod Eireann and they won't have the same dead-eyed, grumpy staff throwing soggy sandwiches at the customers, pissed-up fifteen year olds overdoing it on tins of out-of-date Budweiser or ginger toilet-roll slingers peeling oranges in their pockets while leering at the female passengers.

Yes I'm going to share my private holiday photos with anonymous strangers on a message board known for its eclectic mix of oddballs, IRA apologists, lunatics, drug users and socialists. Get real Truffle Pig.

Incidentally, I don't generally take many photos on my holidays. I do however keep a travel journal where I'll write a daily entry reflecting on what I had experienced that day - the sights, the sounds, the smells, the conversations, the food. It's a thoroughly enjoyable experience to dig out the journal a few years later and relive the whole experience. It's certainly a more poignant memento than a selfie taken on a crowded beach in Tenerife or a group photo of all my mates having a 'mad one' singing Karaoke in McSorely's of Fuengirola.

Wait until they find themselves sitting outside Limerick Junction due to a points problem. That's a truly Irish railway experience.

Cruises are a fraction of the price. Get to see multiple countries too.

They can also tell the passengers that Donegal is a quarantine zone which they must never enter.

Now a cruise around Ireland sounds like a nice trip.

Then again, wasn't there a programme a few years back where a load of novices had to sail around Ireland but the boat ran into rocks on Tori Island? Think they set sail only a few days before.

I'm calling hogswash too. You're making it up to sound posh. If you werent youd admit that a belmont around ireland isnt good value compared to the other luxury trains. Yes it may have the quality of service but the irish rail network has none of the romance of the other journeys. Theres just not enough rail. It stops every night cause it has no where to go. Venice to vienna keeps going overnight through the alps.

Thing about a cruise is they might as well sail out twenty miles, drop anchor and come back after a week.
This sailing around lark is just wasteful and expensive.

Have to say Aongus V B you come across like the guy who used to post in the betting thread on the Rugby Forum who thought nothing of gambling four figure sums - I certainly wouldn't want to be seated opposite you on a 6 day rail journey around Ireland. :D

The romance is where they end up rather than the journey. Railway journeys across England are also flat. These costs are nothing to the comfortable classes. We know people stay in 500-1000 euro hotels across Ireland.

It's actually cheaper than booking 6 normal return trips from Dublin to Westport.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 197 ✭✭2Bints1Joe

Why are people so incredulous about this?

Just because a typical Irish holiday involves paying 600 euro to stay on a fold out couch in a dingy studio block apartment in Playa del Sunburn, where daily activities include drinking cheap lager and watching English soccer in an 'Irish' bar, doesn't mean that others prefer to spend their money on a different type of holiday.

Yes that's the typical Irish holiday

The mix is eclectic right enough, I see it more as an eclectic mix of libertarians and uppity bigger accountants who "made good" in Germany.

That map sugest Limerick to Westport by train directly - is that possible?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

It also suggests a direct route from Killarney to Limerick.

For Belmont travel, the romance is where they end up AND the journey. I think the point being missed is not that this is expensive for the ordinary joe soap, it is, but joe is not the target, I am saying for the comfortable classes this does not compare to the experience on offer on some of the other Belmont lines, Railway travel in Ireland is not as well structured as it is on the continent and my personal feeling is that this will do well as the Country picks up economically and the EURO/Dollar rate stays favourable to the US so there is plenty of slush money around but as an experience and business I doubt it would last long if the target market came under pressure. So, my only point is that in comparison to the other luxury train experiences, this doesnt stand toe to toe.
