On room to improve a couple of months back, it was renovation to a rural 80's house in baltinglass. It was red brick. But they added a toothpaste like render to the brick and finished it off with float. i'm nearly sure this is monocouche. ?? it looked really well when finished. Syd is this the same stuff?

i remember the end finish, but i cant remember the application so i cant say for sure.

Went with white sand render and stone on our house, traditional look so maybe similar to your own. Hoping to get in soon, fingers crossed!

    Hi Cork2013,
I know this is an old post by you...but I would be really interested in how the render is weathering on your house 3 years on? We are trying to choose at the moment and found your pic....beautiful finish, still as good?
White sand and white cement - right?

    Thanks a mill

    Well Orad!
3 years on!! Still as good a finish Spring/Summer! However during the Winter a green type lichen/algae grows on it! It wrecks my head & then once the dry warm weather comes it just disappears almost! It's obviously still there as it returns come Oct/Nov!!

Thanks a mill. That is really interesting. Are you near a lot of large trees?
I presume you considered a "light" power wash - do you think this would damage?
Can you recall if it was just a standard external plaster - but using white cement and white sand....no other additives required?

Such a nice finish, we are very tempted to give it a go....

White Cement & White Sand finish. We were advised there is a paint/sealant that is available. Would have to be done in the winter when the spores are out (seemingly these are responsible for the green hue) and subsequently washed off using a light powerwash. To be honest it's perfect at the moment. It does annoy me and people commenting on it & looks unsightly in the Winter.
We are surrounded by greenery. We built in the middle of a field in the countryside so unavoidable really!!
I concede we will eventually have to paint.

Napp is just a sand & cement smooth render? I think I know it - you would get away with a number of years before having to paint?

The lime render on my 100+ year old house isn't (has never been) painted and isn't cracked. Couldn't say the same for sand cement render see around the place - cracking after even a year or two.

I'm sure it's possible to get sand cement up in such a way that it doesn't crack but it's not a given by the looks of things.

Reading this thread with interest as I need to decide on my render soon. Can anyone assist?

Site is in the city but house is very closely surrounded by greenery, hedging and tall trees.

Want a crisp white finish for as long as possible without having to paint. It's a modern build so would prefer something non-traditional.

K-rend was in the BoQ but not sure if green staining will be an issue here? I've heard there are acrylic renders too, are they any different?

What would you go for in my position?

    Thanks

Acrylic and silcone renders are ideal choices for harsher urban environments. Crisp easily maintained finish.
