This thread is for the discussion of the recent Graham Dwyer court case. We will open it once sentencing has been passed.

Rules from the outset;

“Rumours” will not be tolerated. Hearsay, if posted, must come directly from another media source (not someone's blog). A link to that source should be provided. Any other hearsay of the “my brother’s friend said…” variety will be in breach of these rules and actioned accordingly.
Distasteful comments on the appearance of the victim or her killer, will not be allowed. This was a murder, not a beauty contest.
Speculation as to the identity of any boards members always has been, and always will be against site rules, that rule will be enforced.
Discussion of moderation is not allowed. If you have any questions or queries, please PM any of the mods (I recommend including at least two of us in the PM as we may not all be online).
Please do not feed trolls, report posts that you feel may be trolling and let the mods deal with them.
Please use common sense, remember that both the victim’s family, and Dwyer’s family, all of whom are entirely innocent, may be reading this. They have enough to deal with without the members of After Hours adding to that.

I can't believe how much trauma he must have put his family through by pleading innocent. He made things worse for everyone that way... including himself. Maybe he likes the attention.

And he was on the late late show in 2012, shortly after the murder!!!

A very dignified statement from the family. The lurid headlines about her must have been so hard for the family but this part is what I feel for me shines through about Elaine O'Hara regardless of the sensationalism about her private life:

The manipulation of her vulnerability was apparent and when she tried to resist, she was reined back in. We can hear her voice in the texts, just wanting to be loved.

I can only go by what I've read about the case, about the victim, but I don't see her as anything other than a lovely young woman, albeit troubled, who fell prey to unimaginable evil.

Completely agree with the verdict and sentence and my heart goes out to the victim and her family.

What sticks out for me was the enthusiasm with which the media swarmed over this case, and probably because of the sexual element. In another case a man was convicted of his wifes manslaughter today, but this trial was mentioned barely if at all in the national media. There seems to be an element in Irish society which laps up certain murders, yet will ignore others which are supposedly less newsworthy, and it just annoys me.

Anyway, job well done by the legal system. RIP Elaine

and well done to boards.ie for banning all discussion until the sentencing. even though the national broadcaster, all radio stations, both broadsheet and tabloid newspapers were doing stories on it after the conviction, boards.ie knew its powerful and influential position in Irish natioanl discourse meant it was held to higher standards

Absolutely disgusting coverage from all the media in this case.

The statement from her family was very sad, and it's horrible that their daughters name was dragged through the mud.

When did Elaine realise that it was not a game any more?
When did she realise that the intention was to kill her for real?
Did she try to run away?
Was she restrained?
Did she suffer much?
Could she and did she cry out?
Was she left on the mountain to die alone?

This is our life sentence, for us there is no parole.

A minimum of 15, after that it is up to the parole board.

Just look at all the posters in here and Feedback who were just champing at the bit to get down to discussing the juicy details of the case when he was found guilty last month.

All rather distasteful, to say the least.

He can get parole, but he will only be out on license for the rest of his life.

Maybe I'm the weirdo but I genuinely have no idea why people want to rake over this case esp as there is not any angle to it.
