Another cop shooting, but this time the cop is being charged with murder.

There is a video that is NSFW. It does not play automatically, so you can read the article without watching the video of the shooting.

This is shocking and very disturbing, how could the PO feel threatened by a man running away?

This one at least seems to be pretty cut and dried. That poor man; shot for running away.

The Americans still seem to be having terrible difficulty getting over slavery within their municipal authorities.

    This is insane.

I was in New York in 2005 and had an incident with a chap who basically attempted to rob me. I actually managed to speak to a police officer no later than 10 minutes after and he asked me for a description. All fine. He said ok sir, thank you, and then proceeded to radio it in as a 'Officer abc, report of a young male, described as 6"1" caucasian, attempted robbery, white basketball shirt, blue cap, demanded money, potentially a black guy in disguise'

I left it at that. Said I'm grand, that I just wanted to let him know. I didnt want to file a report.

I guarantee you will still get people saying "you don't want to get shot, then don't run".

I'm surprised officer "kill 'em all, let god sort 'em out" didn't claim the tried and trusted excuse that he stopped running, turned and "reached for something in his belt".

Isn't that what these guys always claim?

This time he got to try out the 'he stole my tazer' excuse. Thankfully it's not going well for him.

Didn't they introduce individual cameras on cops in the UK and immediately see a massive drop in reports of police misconduct?

Thread should be re-named "American Law enforcement Shoots unarmed citizen thread". Literally seems to be one of these incidents every few weeks now.

And not only that, the video shows the officer planting his taser gun next to the victim. If I was a black man in the US I would be utterly terrified whenever the police stopped me. This is shocking footage..

Think he needs a better excsue for shooting someone eight times as he's running away from you.

As you said, thankfully this one looks like it will see justice.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

In the US?? Are you sure?

This incident might be more extreme than previous but the sentiment behind it is the same. Love of guns and casual racism in some of America's deep south.

Fired 8 shots. 3 missed. Shot in the back 5 times when running away. Police officer said he was "in fear of his life". Good job they got it on camera.

You can then see him plant the taser next to the body. Clearly murder no question about it.

What's the bet he'll get off with a lighter sentence than he should?

I'd say they'll hammer him. Death penalty in that state?

It would've read better if you left the "8 times" at the end of the thread title OP.

    With a pause.

Yeah he definitely needed to put the handcuffs on him after that...

No they wont. Why did the guy make a run for it? There's always more to these stories than meets the eye.

Is it though? He shot at him and 8 times, as he was running away, 5 shots hit him. Then tried to cover it up afterwards.

He clearly thought he could get away with murdering him.

The thing to focus on is the running away.

He made a run for it apparantly because there were alimony payments missing so some bench warrants were outstanding. Not a reason to kill a chap.

We need an American forum for this kind of stuff. General american stuff. Not just politics.

Honestly I'm getting tired of hearing "Black man in the ghetto murdered by white police officer". It's just like the whole "Garda assaults water meter protester" stuff... there's always more to the story.

If it's as it seems then yea, he needs to go down, but without knowing the real facts lets just leave it out.

Running away ? the guy seemed to be going at a snails pace. Complete over reaction by the Cop.

No lets not. We see the same thing from this country again and again. The same country yet excuses are given every time.
Since you're fond of facts here's the police version of events:

'Police in a matter of hours declared the occurrence at the corner of Remount and Craig roads a traffic stop gone wrong, alleging the dead man fought with an officer over his Taser before deadly force was employed.'
This is odd given the altercation took place in a park.
'A statement released by North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said a man ran on foot from the traffic stop and an officer deployed his department-issued Taser in an attempt to stop him.
That did not work, police said, and an altercation ensued as the men struggled over the device. Police allege that during the struggle the man gained control of the Taser and attempted to use it against the officer.
The officer then resorted to his service weapon and shot him, police alleged.'

Sorry guys here's the link I got it from.

You'd be absolutely right to be.

I mean your chances of getting shot must be 1 in millions.

I'd also be worried about being struck by lightening and eaten by a shark.
