Just to sum it all up in one sentence.

It could get a whole lot worse yet folks!!!!

Tbh, one reason I bought and captained Benteke was knowing how I'd feel tonight with a large number of active players having a captain playing, and me with nothing.

I see hwy you would have captained Kane over Austin, but for me it's always a no brainer . If a player has two matches in a week and is a decent pick, as Austin is, I will always captain him. People who went Aguero over Kane during Spurs DGW were heavily punished. They are rare enough so you need to take advantage when they do come along.

Right, I'll go back far enough and pick a date. Let's say Jan 1st. Then I'll pick a more recent period. Let's say the last 4 weeks.

Since January 1st, Harry Kane has scored 14 goals and 3 assists. He has scored 19 bonus. He has hit double figures 6 times.

Since January 1st, Charlie Austin has scored 3 goals and 2 assists. He has scored 5 bonus (missed one game).

In the last 4 gameweeks, Kane has 1 goal and 1 assist.

In the last 4 gameweeks, Austin has 5 goals and 0 assists.

Kane had Burnely away who have shown good form at home against the big clubs but Spurs have shown excellent attacking form in recent weeks. They have scored 9 goals in 4 games.

Austin has two away away games against clubs who are in very solid form. They have scored 6 in their last 4 games but have lost their last 5 games and are in very poor form as a team. WBA have an excellent home record in recent weeks.

Just because a player has a double gameweek, it doesn't mean that they should be autoselected and autocaptained. Austin has been on very poor form and Kane has been absolutely fcuking electric.

Easy choice? Not in my book.

On the Kane austin debate I think people underestimate burnley and saw it as a much easier fixture for spurs than it was. Utd city spurs liverpool chelsea and southampton have between them scored 4 goals in those 6 games at turf moor. The big teams don't like going there the crowds on top of you the pitch is small the facilities are 3rd world compared to every other ground in the league. Also burnley bar ings had nobody away on international duty whereas most the spurs team was away for 10 days. Burnley have conceded lots of goals but most of these have been away or at home to lower to midtable teams when they have to go for it more. Personally I think costa hazard rooney mata of the single gw players were better options than Kane. Austins pt haul against wba was totally unexpected but his 2 games were better options than Kanes 1.

I definitely didn't underestimate it but Kane has shown he can score against pretty much anyone in the league. Spurs couls have played poorly, Burnley could have played great defensely and Kane could have scored a brace.

Yeah of course I knew the form of both before the gameweek started. Obviously your opinion differs to mine but if it's a double gameweek, I'm gonna captain somebody with two games. Recent form doesn't hold forever and Burnley aren't that bad a team. Personally I never considered captaining anyone other than Austin this week.

I don't post a whole lot here but thought I would add my 2c to the casual/dedicated discussion going on since last night.

I would definitely be one of the lurkers alluded to above. I don't feel I can offer any insights that aren't already covered here by the excellent community so I don't say very much.

I started using the forum last season but I don't use it as the only basis for selecting my team (generally use the crazy thoughts going around in my head!).

I have never been on FFFix and only ever look at the captain poll on FFS.

My results are hugely up and down. I'd say I commit the same amount of time the last few years to the game and have read this forum since it started (and in the soccer forum before that) and have have finished:

    2010/11 511000
    2011/12 3300
    2012/13 14246
    2013/14 147898
    2014/15 3973 (with Austin (c) left!)

I don't think you can say that a bad year indicates the level of dedication a person has to the game. It might mean we make bad decisions some years and good ones other years.

I don't think I could be considered casual, just not consistently any good!

I guess that's the difference I guess. I'm going to captain someone with 2 games if they have the form to back up the decision. In the end, I didn't think he had. Three goals since Jan 1st in a side playing cr"p. Not my cup of tea.

I still have Austin so I'm hoping he gets a few more.

Of course anything could have happened and nobody would've expected whichever side that got it wrong to be punished so heavily. The same thing happened the previous week with Aguero and Kane. Kane the previous week scored a tap in a deflected strike and a peno that he only got to take because there peno taker had just gone off whereas aguero got nothing in more or less 90 mins against 10 men. It's swings and roundabouts the lucky people are the ones that had Kane last week and austin this week. You can feel very sorry for yourself if you had aguero last week and Kane this week. I got 1 out of the 2 so can't complain.

You shouldn't captain a player purely because they have two games it should be due to you feeling they have the highest points expectancy of the players you have available to you. I thought it was a close enough call on Austin v Tekkers but none of the other DGW players were anywhere near worth considering.

I'm not saying that. Obviously if Clint Hill is your DGW player, Kane/Aguero would be the option I would go for. But if it's a solid asset like Austin or Benteke, I'm always going to go for the player with two games

Ehm, having 2 games exactly coincides with having the highest points expectancy for proven goalscorers like Benteke & Austin.

I can't believe people are complaining about others choosing Austin and Benteke as their captains.. C'mon. It was a logical choice which has worked for both so far.

Also, the people complaining about the game in general when (surprise surprise) they aren't doing well is hilarious. There's always something to complain about it seems.

Last year - "damn bandwagons being awarded!!!" -

    - "Price changes not being 100% accurate better for casuals"

    - "Captaining a top DGW striker over Kane or Aguero who happened to blank??Terrible choice"...

Enjoy the game for what it is folks. The ups and downs are the fun of it.

If somebody replies that "it's more than a game, money is involved", then maybe stop gambling on something with such "luck" involved.

I love the game..and altough some weeks infuriates me, it's also what keeps me coming back to it. Kinda like golf in a way.

Hey don't go having a go at old Clint what did he do to you!! When he finally scores a Premier League goal I am sure the floodgates will open and we will all have him!!

I'm paying a lot more attention to the FSA this season compared to last year and the results are clear. 576k overall rank last season. I'm sitting on 80K at the moment with Austin (c) to play :)

I was going to use Yun as my example but then I thought Clint Hill would be better :P

Good post DJKendo, thank God for internet forums where we can moan like this in public, if we spouted like this about a "game" in the real world we'd be sectioned.
If Benteke was to score again tonight I would consider myself quite lucky that I only had to dump Defoe to get him in, if it had been Costa, Giroud or Sturridge(we didn't know for sure that he wouldn't play right??) I would have probably left it as is with Aguero and Kane and captained Aguero. I'm almost happy now that I kept faith in Defoe for so long:pac:

To give my tuppenceworth I'll always go with the DGW striker or top midfielder as captain purely for the added 90 minutes of serious interest, it won't always work out but I prefer to play that way.

I agree that you should always captain a dgw player, but unfortunately I didn't have any this week. I went for Costa as I expected him to start and in all honesty I expected him to match if not outscore Benteke/Austin. I was also thinking of the Chelsea dgw in gw34 and would have wanted Costa for that anyway.

It hasn't worked out but I don't think going without any dgw players was as bad an idea as people are making it out to be.

I'm quite bitter about the selling Austin one day before DGW announcement and subsequent 15 pointer against WBA, but it's mental to say that he wasn't the best captain choice if you had him. I would have captained him 100%, same for Benteke if I had him. I just hate GWs like these last two where there's such a vast difference between one captain choice compared to others that were perfectly reasonable (and I've been on the favourable end of the reverse Austin WBA match and Aguero against Sunderland).

That's it in a nutshell.....if you had either Benteke or Austin then you have to captain them but it was probably not worth transfering them in for the DGW, I'm saying that as someone who thought long and hard about Costa to Austin but decided it wasn't worth doing as I would only have to reverse it next week and it would be a waste of 2 transfers. Obviously I was wrong!

At least you'll be keeping your lead at the top of H2H league. It's looking highly likely that "keep calm" will cut into our buffer barring Benteke and Clark cards. I would have won this week too if my dead opponent didn't choose this GW to make transfers for the first time in 6 GWs.

No surprises anyway, Phillips and Benteke start for me and hopefully will do some damage.
