Don't forget Shanahans on the Green if you want to splash out a bit!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,080 ✭✭✭kenco

I think Shanahans do an early bird on Fridays (as the open for lunch too). Super stuff if you can shell out the €50 per head. I think this is the only day they do it on.

Hearing great things about Delahunts (beside Tescos on Camden St). Havent been yet but hope to soon.

One Pico is pricey but very good in my view and I would put it a shade over Shanahans (unless you are particularly into your steak)

Rustic Stone gets good words but again havent tried it yet myself

Enjoy and let us know how you get on

Darwins, while not that near Grafton, do a superb early bird. And general food. http://www.darwins.ie/ / http://www.darwins.ie/assets/Darwins-Pre-Theatre-Menu2.pdf

Another vote for Darwins - been there twice and it's easily my favourite restaurant in Dublin now.

I had a dream last night that the Big Green Egg company gave me a Big Green Egg for free to review here and that I had to spend ages thinking of inventive ways to slip it into my posts. Then I wrecked it by not maintaining it properly and they took it back off me because it had wasps in it (this did actually happen with my Mam's bbq. We burned their nest and they dive bombed up for an afternoon). Was traumatised waking up. Traumatised. Took a while to remember I had never actually had a free Big Green Egg and had nothing to feel blue about.

Also - Big Green Egg company, please do actually give me a free one. I'll share all my excess brisket with my neighbours. Promise.

    Excess brisket?
Bit like 'leftover wine' I'd say ;)

    Hello.
I've never eaten let alone cook marrowfat peas. El Hub bought it the other day to rekindle his childhood memories perhaps, I dunno. So I'm just after cooking a bag of the no-soak kind according to instruction and I'm not sure whether they look/taste like they should.

    output_zps7ldzvwl7.jpg

How am I doing here? They taste like heavy mushy peas.

oh well, it depends on how long you cook them, it's personal preference really. I do prefer them a bit more mushy but they look ok.

Are these what mushy peas are made of?

I hate those kind of peas, but the way you've cooked them looks just like how they look when my MIL cooks them. :)

My coddle is in the pot. Ooh. Excited now.

Yes. They go mushy when overcooked. I'm not a fan.

yes. I also seem to be in a minority of fans. They don't exist where I come from, but I love them. I soak them overnight with the baking soda and cook them until they are quite mushy.

Aaaahh so I've had them before. They are not to my taste. Neither is the one I cooked for the family tonight. Kids were gagging :p

Marrowfat peas are the Devil's little testicles. Horrible wee things. They are probably the only food that I truly detest. I'd rather eat a kilo of marzipan than 10g of Marrowfat peas, & I don't like marzipan.

I hope you like them, Mrs F.

I love them.....out of a tin. It has something to do with the really mushy texture so perhaps it's time I gave the box a try. I just hate a 'shelly' texture on things where the outside skin comes off (think chickpeas/cheap tins of beans) and however the tinned ones are cooked it disintegrates them.

try the box, let them soak for a long time, then cook on low until they are as mushy as you want! They are much better than the tin ones.

My father loves them, I remember him cooking them before so may make a request for him to cook them this week!
