The last few weeks I've noticed my wipers are not as good as they once were. I have them give or take a year (30k km) is that roughly what I should expect to get out of a set or what do you generally get out of a set. I'm just trying to gauge wether I should get the same vw ones again or go for a set of bosch.

Also any suggestion for cleaning them or is it just a case they are gone and that's it. They are not even bad really just not 100% anymore probably be fine for another month or two.

When the are done the are done, VW ones are bosch. If the are Aero then you can just buy the rubber blade refills from the dealer for very little money.

I've got original Ford ones on the mondeo since I bought it, and that will be 3 years in July. Now, they are starting to leave a few lines behind, need to change them soon. What I'm saying is oem wipers should last longer than a year, obvs depending on your mileage, but I don't think you do too insane of mileage?

They are on it 30k km. they are only slightly starting to go and only im so fussy most people wouldn't notice it and consider them fine. They were only vw economy ones too so 25 euro inc vat not that expensive really. I might leave them a month or two and see if they are bad I'll replace them.

My mother got them refill on her octavia and they were sh!t for some reason she just got new wipers after about a week. And these were wurth refills so shouldn't be that bad.

what do you think of this yolk. Good value?

    not worth half that imo.

no tax, virtually no test, fair few miles on it, fair bit of rust on show in those photos, looks like the rear shocks and pretty tired too, smashed fog light, missing centrer caps, ripped carpet, stained seats.

he might have washed it for the photos but don't be fooled.

isn't there a member on here selling an e46 estate in blue/ silver for like €750

Looks tidy! Always liked that gen of 3 Series estates.

Same here not mad on the others. E30's are nice too. Bit of rust on the back. Hopefully not much more of it elsewhere!

Yeah it seems expensive for the age/mileage...

e46 seemingly clean, less miles a few years newer, nicer shape (subjective I'll concede...). I'm not overly familiar with the 4pot engines in these, I know they changed sometime in the e46 life cycle. I don't know if that means that an 01 has the same 1.8 as the e36.

wouldn't be into BM trouble yous at all, but the e46 estate still looks fairly fresh and modern car, the one in the link looks great with those wheels. the e36 estate just looks like a tired auld farmers car at this stage. i'd steer clear unless you are going modifying it or specifically want the e36 shape for some reason.

I believe the 1.8 was upgraded to 140 towards the end of 01, if you want an E36 though Interslice, grab a 318IS if possible.

Whats different in an is? That e46 looks like a better job. Do prefer the look of the E36 though. Any link to the e30 for 750?

The 18IS is a DOHC engine whereas the regular 18i was a SOHC engine, the IS produced 140hp compared to 115 for the i, the E36 should really have this engine as a minimum.

Cool thats a fair bit more power alright. 115 is fairly poor for a 1.8! Never seen an is estate though :/

Ah you're right, Coupe/Saloon only! Would you go for a 6 cylinder? The 2.5 is a peach of an engine in the 323 and can put out 200hp easy.

If I could find one I would. Not on much of a budget either. Would 6pots be hard to come by to throw into a 318i?

Can't imagine they would be to be honest! They're a pretty popular engine, even a 2.0 I6 would be class in one. I'm debating an E36 Touring, E34 Saloon or an E28 Saloon as a project car for myself, leaning towards the E36/E34 though!

I'd stick with the E28 if you can get it FN.

    Classic tax and insurance. ;)

I'm in two minds tbh, I can see him wanting decent money and I'd rather not spend more than €1000 on something I want as a project to be honest.

Had a look at that maroon 318. Lovely to drive, feels nice and mechanical.

    Bad points were

    sloppy gear linkage
The lip on the arches has minor rust.
One of the headlamps need replaced.
A little bit slow. Dont think it hadd 115 hp. Not sure though.
Tyres were new but chineese rubish.

800 was as high as I could go considering all that. 1150 was his bottom price... I'm thinking 1500 for a mint one and this was far from mint.

For the first time ever I dont need a car so can take my time.

I'd seriously wait for a 6 cylinder to be honest. I'd happily take a 318IS or an E46 with the 140hp 4 pot but really for an older bimmer, the 6 pot just makes sense.

Only ten minutes away so just went to get a baseline really! It felt light and well balanced. I still consider a good one. Can always swap out the engine for a dohc or 6 pot over the summer. Would a clean 6pot estate not be big money. I know the e30s are.

A clean 6 pot Touring would go for decent money so it may well be a good idea to go with something like a 316/318 Touring and drop one into it, could be a bit messier insurance wise with a swap.

I'll keep an eye out for something good. Hard to stay patient!

Forgot to say that the starter was on the way out on that yolk. Just off the phone with my mate who said you should walk away on that alone. Pig of job at the best of times and a major operation if a bolt shears which hes heard of happening!

As if there wasn't already enough bmw owners on here :)

If it gets much worse I'll have to go buy one just to fit in :pac:

I suppose they do represent a lot of bang for your buck at that age although they can have a lot of problems but then any car that age can. My grand mother has a new f30 and I'm about to the only person in the family that likes it they are seriously nice and comfortable inside. Another relation had a few e90s that I liked also.

I honestly don't see the big whoop about them, I've driven a few three series, a 520, and a 530, and yeah they're fast and all, but they do 0 for me, i'd have had more fun being stuck in traffic on a bus

Well Id be the same the only model I would have any interest in is the 3 series don't like any of the other models. And even with the 3 series Id only really like the e90 or f30 Id take or leave the e46 I wouldn't buy one anyway. (Prays he doesn't get banned :pac: )

It's the looks, the engine noise and the spec that does it for me, especially the E39 for me :P

That's the plan for mine, but you know, in black :pac:

18" M Parallels, 10mm drop on the front, small bit on the back with an Eibach Pro Kit, sorted :D
