Thought Mayweather looked a bit nervous at that. Interesting.

He did look nervous alright, he wasn't his usual flowing self, holding court so to speak. I said it before on a different Pacquiao fight but he always the most relaxed guy i've ever seen at a presser or a weigh in.

pretty savage left crosses by Judah but Manny doesn't throw them like that at all, very different than that, i think pointing out Mayweathers right cross been his best weapon is worth noting too, the best punch v a south paw

He doesn't have to. Philly shell is vulnerable to straight lefts. Manny's problem will be getting in position to throw them.

So Judah is gonna spar Floyd in prep and now Manny and Roach have landed Rigondeaux as sparring partner. This is a major land. If Manny can manage to time and land shots on Rigo, it will be great prep for the fight. Obviously Rigo is smaller, but is arguably faster, smarter and more tricky than Floyd. Great help towards Manny's defence too and I am pretty sure a guy like Rigo can box in orthodox if needed. Delighted by this!

I'm not seeing much relevance with either sparring partner really.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,428 ✭✭✭Talib Fiasco

Well Judah is there I presume because he is a fast handed southpaw and one of the finest southpaws at that weight. He also is a very clever boxer and will no doubt let Floyd know the tricks of a southpaw. As for Rigo he is a defensive genius just like Floyd and he is as fast and as tricky as him...so it makes sense too. I bet Roach went after Lara who'd be the best sparring partner on the planet but he's a Haymon fighter so no dice. Rigo is the next best thing in terms of a technical sparring partner

Rigo makes less sense than Judah. He is defensively not like Floyd, plus offensively he is not at all like Floyd. He is southpaw and maybe 2-3 inches shorter than Floyd with 0 inside game. Floyd has an inside game, and does use it. The only similarity is that both are difficult to tag. End of.

Dan Rafael has already said Rigo won't be sparring Pac.

    it made no sense anyway.

Wouldn't say it made no sense. Rigo probably has the best footwork in the entire sport and cutting off the ring is a weakness of Manny's.

It's all getting very sour. The fact that Memo Heredia is supposedly working with Ariza and Floyd is annoying me a lot.

    Sorry lads, who is Heredia?

A former athlete who openly doped...then he became a "coach" for athletes and supplied PED's to numerous coaches who worked with athletes including Marion Jones and Tim Montgomery and Justin Gatlin, all convicted of doping. He then got involved with Juan Manuel Marquez in around 2011 and then miraculously JMM knocks down and then savagely knocks out Manny for the first time in four fights...and appears to have acne all over his chest and back...which is supposedly a side effect of steroid use. JMM has never looked so fast and powerful as he did against Manny...same could be said with Jorge Arce. He definitely looked stronger and so toned prior to his title win in 2011 as well. Overall Memo Heredia is poison to Boxing and sport in general. I dislike Marquez a lot because of his association with this guy. Now Floyd's coach Ariza is in contact with him now prior to the Manny fight. Put two and two together and it's easy to see what's happening.

Wasn't there an article before alleging mayweather had tested positive on 2 occaisions previously, think it was thomas hauser?

In any case boxing has been riddled with doping for years...

Yeah he's apparently failed more than 3 separate tests but they were covered up... I realise that probably all the top guys are at it, similar to cycling. But Heredia is the top dog when it comes to supplying the best gear. The results he had on Marquez were shocking.

you only have to look at how quickly VADA were dropped as the testing authority by goldenboy after a couple of positive tests to know there's something rotten in the state of Denmark...

Not disputing the rest of your post, which is very revealing, but I thought Marquez looked sh!t against Manny last time out. Besides the finishing punch he looked so musclebound and slow that it was nearly an advertisement NOT to do drugs. I thought he never boxed as badly and was being beaten up before that once-in-a-lifetime punch.

This JMM drugs talk is way out of line. The dude has not tested positive for PEDs, and as mentioned, his recent performances have hardly been an advertisement for their effectiveness.

Nobody has directly said that Marquez was taking PED's. If they did, they will be getting a severe reminder of the forum charter. Questions will automatically be raised when your associated with someone that has a doping past. From this forums perspective, I think it's OK to ask questions but not accuse.

Reading the posts the implicating is quite obvious. Bit too obvious IMO!

It's not out of line at all. He's working with a notorious steroid chemist and showed up for fights riddled with chest acne at the age of 40.

And Lance Armstrong never tested positive either.

I know the title of the youtube clip I posted may implicate that, but what I was mainly trying to do was illustrate the shadiness of Memo Heredia (/Hernandez), and a genuine concern I have that any athlete from any sport is working with him.

Obviously as a previous mod on this forum I know not to suggest any individual fighter has taken performance enhancing drugs without proof (i.e. a news link to them testing positive).
Heredia is however a scourge on sport, and boxing in particular.

I do think this sport is likely riddled at the elite level with PED users, but that discussion is for another day.

Interesting interview on ring mag. Martinez reckons Mayweather can have pac for breakfast. He doesn't think pac is anywhere near Mayweathers level.

Aside from Roach and Floyd Sr it's been fairly timid, and you wouldn't expect anything else from them.

Interesting to see how much Floyd has rolled back the 'Money' persona. Either he's trying to restore a positive image in the hopes of getting involved with PBC (can't do that unless he's palatable for the sponsors), or he knows he's near the end and doesn't want to be remembered for the obnoxious money persona.

Whatever the reason, it was almost like watching a Mayweather imposter at the press conference. Not the same man at all.
