I doubt any airline is willing to spend a billion on a product just because it's nearing the end of its production. Huge risk, more likely it's because they are seeing increased freight volumes and are going to replace thirsty -400s with more efficient -800s.

    A B748 actually has a higher trip-cost than a B744 ( but lower on per-seat / per-tonne basis ), plus acquisition and interest costs.

If you're not filling it to capacity every time you're losing money against a paid-off B744.

But as B744s approach their D-checks it makes sense to dump them for the new-builds. And that window is closing.

No idea. Could have been a tech issue.
Might be related to the very long delays out of JFK last night. Due to works taking place and unexpected weather they were down to a single runaway.
Read some of the discussion on another site.

EDIT: I had a look at flightradar24.com. Flight was operated by EI-LAX, which is showing as only getting back from Bordeaux at 1819 as EI-2505

Id be doubtful, the incoming flight wasnt delayed. Outbound flights would hardly be delayed?

Huh. Strange one. Maybe they just chucked the letters out the back of the plane? Would explain a lot about the condition of some of my post recently. :p

While not Irish related I thought ye lot would appreciate this short video. It shows the sheer volume of inbound traffic at a 3 runway airport at night:

Two Gulfstreams rolling into DUB right now. Both owned by NJI Sales Inc. N450QS and N492QS. Thanks to the Mech1's feed for that info. Very clear radio from them too.

I see them AeroMexicos on FR24 all the time. Nothing too special imo.

Another thing, I dont understand how theres so many flights from the european hubs to Mexico City, I didnt think there would be much of a market there.

I shall let wikipedia answer this one:
As an "alpha" global city Mexico City is one of the most important financial centers in the Americas.
The 2009 estimated population for the city proper was around 8.84 million people,....... According to the most recent definition agreed upon by the federal and state governments, the Greater Mexico City population is 21.2 million people, making it the largest metropolitan area in the western hemisphere, the tenth largest agglomeration, and the largest Spanish-speaking city in the world.

The Greater Mexico City has a gross domestic product (GDP) of US$411 billion in 2011, making Mexico City urban agglomeration one of the richest metropolitan areas in the world. The city was responsible for generating 15.8% of Mexico's Gross Domestic Product and the metropolitan area accounted for about 22% of total national GDP.
As a stand-alone country, in 2013, Mexico City would be the fifth-largest economy in Latin America—five times as large as Costa Rica's and about the same size as Peru's

Oh the financial services side of it. From my understanding, mexico city has quite a bad standard of living and most of the wealth is focused on a select few. This is what confused me. Your average mexican wouldn't be flying as often as your average european.
