Even if there is more to it, unless he was defending himself from an attack, there is no excuse for punching someone. He apparently punched a colleague in the face with little to no apparent provocation. Getting sacked is justified in that situation.

    We'll see.

Anyone getting flashbacks to the Garthpocalypse right now?

I mean we have an entitled egomaniac and a totally ridiculous fanbase who will excuse anything from their hero rather than accept that he's being an arse.

I'd be willing to be that some of the posters now rabidly defending poor aul Clarkson from the consequences of punching a colleague in the face were pissing themselves laughing at the loopier Garth Brooks fans.

I would put both sets of fans firmly into the "arsehole" compartment, to be honest.

Serious strong parallels with this thread and the Garth Brooks one.

I get people are fans and all (as am I) but defending violence and racism in the workplace is just low. I wouldn't mind but it seems the details of the story are getting even worse for Clarkson- the papers reported today that the whole production crew had dinner but that Clarkson went drinking for three hours. Then he showed up to the hotel but the kitchen was long since closed. So he blames the producer, racially abuses him and hits him in the face. As if it was the producers fault that Clarkson went drinking for three hours  If he planned to go on the piss and wanted dinner later then why didnt he just ask the lads to ask the kitchen to save him something ? Thats what any reasonable person would do, either that or ring Dominoes.

Yeah I'm sure there's a completely rational explanation behind it. It seems very out of character for Clarkson to get drunk and use someones nationality as an insult before decking him.

The victim blaming here is odious.

The downplaying of the guy being hurt and going to hospital is just disgusting, especially when we're constantly being told we don't know the whole story. We do know the producer wound up in A & E because of Clarkson, and ridiculing the victim for the consequences of the actions of the bully is just inexcusable.

 Jesus lads it was a minor fraca. He didn't tie the guy up in his basement for 10 years. Calm down with the raging hard ons trying to sword fight to look like the most squeeky clean superior high horse in town. :pac:

If this was the first time he was in the news for the wrong reason then you'd have a point. He has plenty of priors and was on his last chance with the bbc.

It wouldnt surprise me if there are substance abuse issues at all, although I have absolutely nothing to base that on besides him behaving like an entitled oaf.

What other fist fight  That Pierce Morgan or whatever his name is doesn't count. Sure ban Tommy Tiernan from ever being allowed to perform on stage again so.

Well, there's two kinds of going to hospital. The first one is getting badly hurt and having to be put back together again in the right order by a trauma team and the second one is "water protester style", i.e. falling on the ground and screaming "He hit me! Everyone saw it! Call a solicitor! And an ambulance!" if someone brushes past you. We don't know which one it was.

Strong words for someone who claims to dislike being rude and obnoxious, and has a high degree of control over how rude and obnoxious they are to other people.

I've worked for far, far worse people than I imagined Clarkson is, I think myself that some drama queening with a view to compensation is at play too. Anyway, You lot are speculating every bit as much as we are. All that's left now, really is to sit and wait.
