I tried Textra there but I have a problem where it list my number as different in the settings. I get this with every messaging app as the sim was originally an 083 but I kept my old 087 number, but Textra is the only one I've seen that won't let you edit it.

I get that same issue in other apps too, like Viber. It's strange.

Its reading your number off the sim, which would be the original number prior to porting if picking you up correct. should be able to change in store. phones used to be able to edit this but they seem to have dropped this feature.

I edited mine with an old samsung I had when i had this problem.

I just went into settings in Textra and there is a "Your Mobile Number" section. I just entered my number there.

I'm not sure what difference it makes though, why does the messaging app need my number?

not certain if it is any use to anyone but I would highly recommend setting profiles.

it allows you to create different profiles according to different rules. what makes it so good is that the rules can kick in at different times. it means that I don't have to remember to set my phone to silent in work or switch silent off silent when I finish.

also I have a rule for nighttime which mutes all notifications so only time it will make noise is for a phone call.

there is a free version which you can try as well as the paid version.

Llama does a good job of this too.

Is there anything out there that you can use to hide apps from the app drawer and from the share menu? There's a load of stuff there I never use or have no need for and I don't like the clutter.

If they're built in apps that can't be uninstalled, you can disable them under their entries in the app settings menu. Just click on it it's entry and rather then getting an uninstall option you'll have a disable one instead, and they won't show up in your app drawer anymore. I have a Nexus 4 and I've done this for all the Google apps that I don't use like newsstand and books. Not sure about non-Nexus/skinned phones or tablets but I would imagine it's the same.

Can anyone recommend a good SMS app? I'm just sick of Hangout's inability to tell me when I have messages and lack of group text option.
Try ChompSMS it's from the same company that make Textra that others have mentioned but has extra features such as using your contacts pictures from Facebook or gmail, creating your own theme and sending scheduled messages.

I haven't tried it yet but Flynx looks like a really neat app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flynx

    Over drive
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.overdrive.mobile.android.mediaconsole&hl=en

Provided your library is in the list it allows you to rent audio books and ebooks using your library card

In the Connacht section, every library in Leitrim seems to be on it but none from Galway, Mayo or Sligo. Weird.

wheres the list of librarys ?

edit: downloaded the app and signed up.
No librarys near me. Is there any reason not to share library card details ?

Either its to new and doesnt work or doesnt work with a Moto G, id says its the latter as its happened a few times with apps on it.

Il ask them and see if they reply.

Pity though cuz i like the night mode/read later/offline thing in the vid.

    I need a yoke like that....badly.

Red Wrecker. Get rid of all red cards, keeping green
    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B005VTS4EY
installed this game and got mp3 credit added to my account. $1 might be handy for anyone looking for a song or something.

I don't know if it's still on offer on App Of The Day but I downloaded Swordigo last night. I only played it for a small bit but it looks really good! The controls are responsive and the graphics are lovely.

Anyone recommend a good email app? The stock one look horrendous. I really like the Gmail one but push mail from anything other than Gmail doesn't appear to work, it's a sync instead. Blue/Type mail is ok but just the display of it annoys me. The official Outlook app is just shocking on android I've no idea how it even gets a 3 rating.

    Thoughts?

I use the google inbox app, and I've my hotmail email account setup to automatically forward everything to my gmail account.

The interface isn't to everyone's liking, but I find it tidy and clean, and it groups "non human" emails into separate folders - which means your main inbox is left for real correspondance

I use mailbox for this - its from dropbox and you get extra storage if you install it.
I didnt like the inbox app from google.
Never had an issue with inomail either.

I use Nine for exchange email. Can't fault it really, simple to use and very clear interface.

I use it, it works with everything. That said it lags my phone a bit when syncing in background

Is that K9?? or is there another one? I use K9 it is OK, totally pissed off with the replacement of the older mail app by gmail, typical Goggle arrogance.

Best alternative app to Tune-In Radio?

I'm fed up with it hijacking the lock screen on my phone with grainy photos (which sometimes remain there, even after quitting the app).

Thought that was just happeing to me!
Happens with Spotify sometimes too, but never Play Music.
Have to reboot the phone to get it to go away.
