Petty Things Banned From The Workplace

Today, myself and five colleagues in the office were notified by e-mail from the boss that radios are banned from today. Now, three of us always had radios on, never that loud, and nothing was ever said until today. The ban extends to the use of headphones and any way of listening to music.

We're the only office in the building (one of three) to have radios banned. Even the directors had no say in this and have no issues with others listening to music.

What sort of things have been banned from your workplace, if anything?

If you're on the phone to clients or have clients come into your office, then they're rightfully banned.

    Human decency.

Cannot stand people who use radios in the office. Headphones fair enough, but radios no!

Perhaps your colleagues didn't want to listen to whatever radio station you did? Perhaps they complained as it was distracting. If you can hear the radio, the person beside you can.

Who wants to listen to commercial radio with the inane ads, the constant rotation of the same sh1t music all day anyway.

Not so if using headphones. In fact they can come in handy in blocking out colleagues who are on calls while you're doing your thing.

    I work in a pub/bistro

We arent allowed drink or eat there. I can understand the no drinking rule but not being allowed eat there (we have to pay for food, even when we work, and dont get breaks. Food has to be taken away) is silly

Nothing's banned as we're all adults.

    Beards...fúck that!

I told them I wear one on religious grounds & if they ask what religion I am there will be discrimination consequences.

(I've worn a beard for nigh on 25+ years)

If other people can hear it it's too loud

I have a short-wave 9-band transistor radio in my office, but it's there for emergency use - national broadcast, police band, maritime, etc. I don't use it generally because it's incredibly annoying and rude. Nothing is explicitly banned here, except the usual - smoking, fully-automatic firearms, strippers, that sort of thing.

Could understand radios being band but not headphones. If it's a job where headphones don't affect your ability to do the job, then grand. But a radio, set to 2fm in the afternoon.............everyone being forced to listen to it. No fooking way.

A mate worked in an office in Essex and they were told they weren't allowed to run up the stairs. Like taking two stairs at a time was banned.

Guessing it's a H&S thing, but jesus you'd swear they were 5 years old.

Falling asleep at your desk (even accidetly) was a sackable offence in one screwed up crew I did business with ...

Without doubt health and safety. There was a permanent fold out wet floor sign in the mens room in a job I was in afew years back. It was never taken down! Companies can never be too careful when it comes to their accident prone staff!

A client of ours whose office I'm in quiet a bit have a bit of a thing about usage of handrails when climbing a stairs. It's weird. You'll be stopped and reminded to use the handrail if they see you not using it. It's like they've all been brainwashed!
