Actually I take it back, I just searched it and a number of teenagers have commit suicide over the years due to severe bullying over their ginger hair which I find really disturbing :(

I find this story most shocking, I just find it hard to believe such a stunning young girl would be bullied so badly over something as superficial as hair colour. And in England , where gingers aren't even very rare, like of all places.. Very sad...

How can you be sure of that though ??

Well I just thought that if anybody slagged me about having brown hair I would just find it so ridiculous that it wouldn't really affect me. But I guess it does hurt other people.

The same could be said for smokers. And motorists. And sportsmen. And clumsy people.

Not in the same ball park also another stupid comparison.

People who smoke are simply stupid, they know themselves they are stupid and everyone around them knows it is stupid but people do it.

Accidents will happen, being fat is not an accident.

Nice day for a spot of trolling.

Most trolls are fat & ginger too if our cartoons have thought us anything.

I imagine the next boards meet up will be missing the large and the ginger people.

I've never understood why people felt the need to slag people like this. It just seems so pathetic. I know some of them try to pass it off as "just stating a fact" but really it's none of their business. Do you walk through an old folks home telling people they look like they are close to death? It's just stating a fact after all.

Racism implies a percieved inferioriy in the target of the racist comments, and a corresponding perception of their own races superiority.

Also blondes have the whole 'dumb blondes' thing but no one seems particularly affronted by that.

Also, are people not aware that lads basically slag everyone / anything all the time?

But there *is* a sense of inferiority at times. I've seen comments on boards where people say all gingers are ugly, or that gingers should be purged (exact word used), or that they're all "horrible sickly looking things", or the whole "no soul" thing which got old a decade ago but refuses to die. Not to mention that awful phrase "beaten like a ginger stepchild".

If someone who makes the news for any reason has red hair, it *will* be mentioned in the comments ("that ginger twat", "oh who cares what that ginger fcuker thinks?", etc). Just look at the Ed Sheeran thread. When Justin Bieber or George Ezra announce dates here, do people complain about the "brown-haired twats"? No, because that doesn't seem insulting or disparaging, whereas "ginger" for some reason does.

And you can call it tongue-in-cheek, but it creates a social norm by which it's fine to tease/mock/bully/insult/look down on redheads, because it's not seen as a problem. Even in the media. On an RTE sketch, Maeve Higgins posed as a hairdresser who secretly added hair dye to shampoo to "cure" ginger people, and Dublin Zoo ran a promotion that compared ginger kids to orangutans. Can you imagine a sketch suggesting secretly changing someone's skin colour (or even wearing make-up to change skin colour) or an ad comparing black kids to monkeys?!

It is the born of the same sort of attitude that racism comes from, and I don't think to compares to the "dumb blonde" thing in that sense.

Unless they have a medical condition, most overweight people only have themselves to blame.

Gingers on the other hand have no choice.

In that song about fat girls your one is singing about "skinny bitches" etc. and nobody bats an eyelid, very popular song in the charts that receives significant airtime......but if on the other hand Rhianna or Ellie Goulding released a song about "fat bitches" there would be absolute uproar! Why is that?

    Historically an anti-celtic thing there.

The ginger thing is nothing short of hate and after hours/boards.ie shouldn't allow gingers to be mocked on a forum like this. I've said this before.

    I love redheads. LOVE. THEM.

    De fcuking lish.

Overweightedness wouldn't be my thing though. Despite having a little wobbliness here and there myself.

Slag yourself before they slag you, no fun for them then..

I'm neither but my brother is ginger and he seems to take it well, it annoyed him when he was young but you just need to grow thicker skin and just take it.. Plus he's heard almost all the ginger slags from myself and my family.

It's only big again now due to ed sheeran.

    LOL, what a stupid post.

Being black, brown or white isn't unhealthy. Being fat IS unhealthy.

There is undoubtedly something wrong with being fat--your health. Oh and let's not forget that us tax-payers have to foot the bill for any medical costs a person's weight problem incurs.
thats our job. if its not them, it will be something else. go protest about it

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

As far as I'm concerned no hate speech should be illegal. Go ahead and bash me for that if you like, the beauty of free speech is that you can do so and I can't stop you :p

ginger slagging isn't real. No ginger kid goes home after hours of torment at school about their ginger hair and cries themselves to sleep at night.

I can't be sure but I would imagine a kid with red hair would almost certainly be upset if they were continuously insulted for being different.

Nobody likes being personally insulted for something they had no choice in.

Hold on, your post is the stupid post. You specificly say "unhealthy" as the reason its ok to slag fat people, not the "it's their own doing" reason?
Well if being unhealthy is the reason you can slag off anyone with any disease.
And if its a disease that is their own fault, you can slag off smokers with lung cancer. You also assume fat people don't pay tax.

Here's a suggestion, don't slag off people you don't know, and only slag people about things they aren't sensitive about?

The comparison of slagging off overweight people to the KKK burning a cross (intimidation of a household) is maybe not quite like with like :) - not that I think it's ok to slag off anyone for an aspect of their appearance, whether it's something that they can help or not.
I agree it doesn't make sense to compare excess weight with skin colour, but shouting abuse at someone because they are overweight is hardly reasonable behaviour, no matter how strong the feelings are regarding obesity.
The ginger hate thing is bizarre too I think. Bandwagon much of it, I'd assume.
As far as I'm concerned no hate speech should be illegal. Go ahead and bash me for that if you like, the beauty of free speech is that you can do so and I can't stop you :p
Beauty? Ok. Don't know if what you're talking about actually exists - not sure it would be a good thing if people could say whatever they like, wherever they like, to whom they like. What about those on the receiving end? In my opinion they have the right not to have abuse thrown at them - yeh I'd be happy with a world where it's not ok to shout insults at a stranger out a car window. :)
Despite saying you can't stop someone, you can surely use your "free speech" and defend yourself?

Hate speech doesn't constitute free speech.

Being ginger during school years is the biggest challenge you can face through life. Some are scared from it. I myself have grown because of it.

Being a fatty is no different than any other addiction. Eat too much = get fat = lower confidence = eat more = get fatter.

I reckon it would be easier to solve an obesity crisis, since there's no real way to hide the MC1R gene. Obesity itself can be helped with dietary plans and regular exercise (and in extreme cases, surgery).

That's the legal position, sure. Not everyone agrees with it, however.

Silage as a main diet is a solution.
