Should fattys & gingers be offered legal protection from slagging

So I can't belittle or degenerate Romas, itinerants or Muslims but it's open season on fatties & gingers.

Speaking as a representative of both he fat & ginger community this has proven to be an awful time of the year.
Operation Transformation just reached it's finale where every 2nd comment on social media is about how fat they still are or lay off the pies.
The Ed Sheeran thing has definitely heightened ginger awareness & the slagging that goes with it.

Were I to collectively abuse a member of the traveling community for being thieves I'd have Pavey Point threatening me with hate crimes & the like.
Why then must I laugh off the slings & arrows which comes with my body type & hair colour.

It's time to say stop & legislate for this sickening abuse which happens everyday.

You can lose weight and dye you hair.
But you cannot change your ethnicity or skin colour !

This is pretty controversial, to be fair.

Join a gym,dye your hair and quit whining carrot head

*jokes* I myself am mildly affected by the ginger gene, never was cursed with the red hair, but if I attempt a beard or goatee it grows out a fiery shade of red :(
    PS.
A disproportionate amount of the finest women in the world have lovely red locks

    Gingers - Yes
    Fattys - No

I don't get the ginger hate thing. Given that we have one of the highest number of redhaired people per head of population, seems the joke is on us.

Obesity was declared under protection by discrimination laws there in December last year. European Court ruled on it. Fell under the disability section.

How about not being a dickhead and leaving everyone alone?

Is pavey point in the op an oblique reference to a travellers traditional form of income. If so I like it.

Gingers maybe should get some slack, but fatties can toddle off back to the treadmill with their indignation.

It's open game about smokers here about how people should quit and it's unhealthy for them but people who are fat / obese should be left alone.

I'd say the other way round. Sure gingers can dye their hair, but they'll always be ginger. Fat people can lose weight.

It related more to employment law really, but here is a link:

    So not fully protected!

    Dye your hair?
By that logic you can tattoo your skin. Skin colour is a choice.

Are we to start dying childrens hair at birth?

I think that poster was agreeing with your stance

Gingers - Yes they should have protection

Fatties - No they can loose weight (unless it is some form of medical condition that causes issues ).

There's no difference between slagging off 'gingers' or 'fatties' and donning a white sheet, burning crosses and lynching the neighbourhood black family.

Some of you need to look in the mirror and give some serious thought to the utter crap you're spouting. Or go back to school.

Yeah, but the question needs to be asked: why did you become a smoker and how did you get fat?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Nothing wrong with that just as there is nothing wrong with a reasonable discussion about the dangers of being overweight. Slagging though is different. If you've been that person minding your own business and some stranger shouts an insult at you it's not nice.

This but then again I don't mind the slagging for ginger hair as I am a day walker so not too bad and the lack of a soul comes in handy :P

Smoking affects the health of other people too. Being obese doesn't (unless they sit on you). :pac:

Except fatties can lose weight in the vast majority of cases. People can't change the color of their skin.

    LOL, what a stupid post.

Being black, brown or white isn't unhealthy. Being fat IS unhealthy.

There is undoubtedly something wrong with being fat--your health. Oh and let's not forget that us tax-payers have to foot the bill for any medical costs a person's weight problem incurs.

Go back to school? You making fun of the illiterate? You monster!
    Also wise up!
People making a wise crack about red hair from what I have ever seen is done it jest, comparing that to someone in the KKK just makes you a moron!

I generally do not make fun of fat people I find it quite sad and totally avoidable.

No one is saying it's not unhealthy but how helpful is it to slag off someone?

Same as calling someone skinny or white or black or old or young or ginger or blond...

The reason people take offence to being called fat is because no one really want to be fat nor should they be fat excluding actual medical conditions.

I don't understand why you would do it. I have an overweight husband. I will discuss my concerns about it with him but I would never slag him off. Making fun of someone is counterproductive. It's possible to discuss it without name calling or making jokes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,201 ✭✭✭languagenerd

I dunno about legal protection, but I've never understood why some people who would never make racist comments about black people see no problem at all in saying similar things about redheads.

It comes from a very similar attitude - attacking/hating/judging/undervaluing someone based on the genetic traits that define their appearance.

And yet one is seen as fairly acceptable.

Calling some one ginger is hardly inventive. It too is also stating the obvious.

Most fat people are just lazy! medical conditions :D? Most have medical conditions because they are fat
