I hope you're not planning an early retirement off me Anna!!! Don't think I could handle that pressure!

Cheers BG. Happy with training at the moment alright but don't think I have enough in me at this stage to take off what I'd need to to compete with the handicap. Seems like a tough one to call overall, should be interesting and a bit of a laugh anyway :)

I honestly think you have the best chance to win the thing by virtue of the fact that you have room to improve and that improvement will be very hard to match by the faster guys. It's between you and MKDTH for the top 2 IMO.

No pressure of course - run your own race and what YOU are comfortable with. The predictions are just a bit of fun for a great cause. :)

Haha, fun in the hot seat eh Laura?! You are literally out of the frying grill pan, into the fire  Enjoy the ride and stay off boards in the final 48 hours :)
Ps my money's on you too.... :D

Yeah I know where you're coming from on that but if those super speedsters have a good day I don't think I'm there yet to go for it - I saw you mention sub 2 on the other thread, you must be having a laugh  :pac: but I'll give it a good go, and I'll have my own goal time I'll personally be happy with so we'll take it from there!!

Admit it, DG, you really want to do Bohermeen... with your time travelling abilities, you could do both races that day!

Haven't quite decided what to aim for. PB is 2.13 so I'd hope to take a bit off that. McMillan is giving me 2:05 based on the Raheny 5 and that would tally with some of my recent hr training. At this stage I'd be delighted with that, just afraid I mightn't have the stamina to stick it out.

Bet you can do that 2:05 or better. Your training's been going great of late so I'd say you're well capable. Bet or no bet, don't start out too fast as 13.1 miles is a long way to run and could lead to a very uncomfortable last few miles if you push too hard for the first half. Best start out a bit conservatively and see how you're feeling at 8 or 10 miles and push on from there.

The voice of reason :) I think that's exactly what I'm going to do. Going sub 2 is a goal this year but all joking and betting aside I think this race is too soon for that. As you said if I'm feeling good on the day I can push on but right now I don't think my training indicates a sub 2 is possible and whilst I want to do well and push myself I need to be realistic.

They had 2hr pacers when I did it , could follow them or keep them in your sights.

I didn't mean to be a spoil sport... but you have to ensure you have a good race and I want you to have a great race:) McMillan is pretty good predicting up to half marathon. I just think it'd be ridiculous for you to feel pressure to do a certain time and tear off at that pace if you personally don't feel you're ready to do that time for this half marathon. You might well do the sub 2, don't get me wrong but you know best yourself;)

No, you're not being a spoil sport don't worry. It's all good advice and it's good to get feedback.

    Monday 24th: 5.63 miles @ 10:40, average HR 159bpm - 60 mins easy

One of those what the hell am I doing out here nights when I walked out of the house into the wind, it was fairly wild. But as is often the case once I got going it didn't seem that bad. Avoided the headwind on the coast, kept it behind me there and ran into it on the parallel roads - no point being a glutton for punishment!

    Tuesday 25th: Rest

Wednesday 26th: Football. A good win which was needed after a dire result last week. A lot of running though, tired from it.

    Thursday 27th: 5.2 miles inc 4*5 mins @ 5k effort w/3 mins recovery

As usual I found this session challenging, but good. Aiming for 8:30 average pace as before.

    1 mile w/u @ 10:47
    8:27
    8:29
    8:27
    8:29

    1 mile c/d @ 11:26

I was happy with this one given that the legs were a bit tired even before I started. The last one was into the wind so I had to work harder to keep it at the pace I wanted. I know that these sessions are by effort so that to have a few seconds allowance to take into account conditions, terrain etc wouldn't be a big deal - but I wanted to hit the target if I could. It was good to finish strong as well.

A runmute into work tomorrow so I'll keep the pace and effort easy on that. I was a bit lax with my exercises the last couple of days, I'll get back into that now tonight.

Cheers Adrian. Happy with how it went and if I'll be able to string a few miles at that pace together for a 5k at some stage soon I'll be happy!

    Friday 27th: 4.28 miles @ 10:42, average HR 153bpm - 45 mins easy

Easy runmute into work. Kept the effort easy after the football & 5k effort session in the previous days. Didn't string it out to bring it up to the full hour on the plan.

    Saturday 28th: Unplanned rest day

Rejigged my plan around for the weekend due to a bit of a strain in the hamstring area towards the end of the week. Decided to push my long run out to the Sunday (unfortunately meant missing the trail run :() and take Saturday as a rest/easy day. Could still feel it when I was running for a bus in the afternoon so went for the rest day. A bit of foam rolling as well.

    Sunday 1st: 12 miles w/ 10 easy & 2 @ planned HM pace

The rest day and the foam rolling seemed to help the leg so off I went this afternoon. Luckily by the time I went out I missed the torrential rain in the morning and the hail and snow in the early afternoon. Nice route that took in the Bull Wall, St. Anne's & some of the park run route, the coast, a bit of the Raheny 5 route and a bit more of Clontarf.

    10 miles easy @ 10:40, average HR 159
    9:24
    9:24

I know at this stage that anything I do won't have a real benefit for next Sunday but I decided to add the HM pace miles at the end for more of a boost to finish strong on tired legs. They ended up a bit faster than the pace I'm aiming to go out and they were manageable, although I'm a bit nervous about stringing 11 more of them together in or around that pace :o

So a bit of a mini taper ahead now this week. I'll probably drop the weekly session from the plan, which was to be a tempo run, and stick to easy runs of about 5 miles. Mileage for the week just gone was 27.11 miles. Full disclosure: my new yearly table format has been shamlessly stolen from Adrian's log :P Thanks Adrian - it looked better than any I could cobble together....I did have to bring the mileage details waaaaay down though!! :D

Fingers crossed! Hopefully the rest day did the trick. Will you taper at all this week now or what's the plan?
