Lads I need some help.. On the HD channels on the quad, subtitles are always showing for some reason.. they dont show at all on the SD channels.. Ive went in the audio menu on vix, tried to change some settings to no avail.. For the life of me i cant understand why they are only showing on the HD channels... Any ideas?

Update: never mind folks, got it sorted in the end...

    What did you do ?

I just got a quad a couple of days ago & started using it tonight.
A sharp learning curve & taking it easy but going well so far.
It has VIX image 032 on it.

What do people think of the blind search on this receiver ?

Use a preloaded bouquet instead of a blind search

Its very good. If you restrict the symbol rates to 20 instead of the default it will speed up the scan itself. Most of the links will have a symbol rate less than than 20k.

    Thanks for that.
I fitted a hard drive to mine today.
Spent some time this evening messing around with it.
Hard drive seems to work fine.

Lads how do people find streaming on the quad plus? If i watch a film or an iptv channel, the picture is always stuttering, laggy or choppy, the audio is broken almost as if someone is pressing the pause button repeatedly every half second which is the best way I could describe it..

Its not my internet,as im on a 13mb connection and the same services work fine on my android devices...

Hi folks, I hate to resurrect an old thread but this seems to be the "go to" thread for Things Gigablue.

I received a Gigablue Quad Plus over the weekend and am generally happy with it so far. I've stuck with the preinstalled OpenMIPS image for now, updated to latest. I've a few questions that search hasn't answered:
    * What images are finding stable on this box?
    * How are people finding playback quality of AVI/XVID files stored on the internal HDD?
    * Is there an on-demand player out there which will allow FF/RW of the RTE or TV3 player? I've tried a couple but they just die when I try to go forward or back.

Re AVI files - I've tried a range of files and the video is all choppy. I think it's a codec issue rather than a storage issue because a) same issue off USB and b) other files MP4/H264 play perfectly.

Could be an image problem, using Vix image and no bother playing different avi files.

I have one of these receivers which i use to play around with as its not my main receiver.

Seeing your post I said I would try & see if it would play avi files.
I had a small avi file on a usb key which i tried.
I got perfect sound but no picture ?
I'm sure there a plugin somewhere to download but I couldn't see anything obvious.
I'm using the latest OpenMips as well.

I was using Vix but I wanted to use Plex which I couldn't get to work on Vix.
    Plex runs fine on OpenMips.
I'm no expert on this which is the reason I haven't done much with the Gigablue as I didn't have time.

It would be great if someone reading this can explain the avi problem.

    EDIT:
I just found another film in avi & that played with no problem at all.
Must be just the way my previous avi file was recorded.
It was recorded on an old Samsung camera ?

Hi I'm new to this setup. I am looking into Gigablue HD Quad Plus with Vix.?

Anyone else using Vix as an image?

    What is a bouquet .?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,526 ✭✭✭stanley1

Rats bouquet plugin does it all for you, also he does a picon plugin, ties in neatly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 826 ✭✭✭amdaley28

Is dual boot possible on this receiver ?
There's a plugin available called Openboot but I'm not sure if it will work on the Gigablue ?
Also can someone tell me how to get Iptv on the receiver?
    Thanks everyone.

Unfortunately Rats stopped his plugin server so the plugins no longer work.
He is still making bouquets and picons but they have to be manually ftped across.

Of topic, but what's happening over at WOS ?

Working again, plugins are now pointing at new server, just flashed new image on my Gigablue and everything working 100%.

Whats the latest & greatest image on the Gigablue HD Quad Plus ?
I haven't used mine in a while as its not my main receiver.
Was thinking of selling it as its a shame to see it not being used.
Have had it for six months & its only been used a handful of times.

Does it have a HDD fitted with preloaded bouquets.
I'm looking to get one but not sure how to load a bouquet list. I was thinking of imaging with Vix?

    I fitted a 1Tb 2.5" disk to it.
Its also set up for Diseqc 1.2 with satellites from 54'E to 61'W. It can be factory reset if any buyer wants.
I have OpenMips 4.2 image in it because I wanted to run Dreamplex on it. OpenMips is very stable even though as I said previously I haven't run it that much at all.
Originally it cost me €350 plus about €50 for the hard drive & was bought here in Ireland.

I dont have a Quad Plus. User fattony does.

    I have the UE800 Plus.

Initially I was impressed with OpenATV. I found that Vix is probably the most focussed to my needs and I tried them all.

I run a motorised dish off usals and use a motorised channel list from the plugins which works great and added my fav list to it.

ViX image is stable on the GB Quad Plus. Most vendors will install an image for you on any of these receivers. The image/bouquet files etc. are actually on the internal flash memory of the receiver. The hard disk is used for storing recordings and usually the EPG. Image and settings backups are usually stored on the HDD or on a USB stick, but the current working image and settings are stored on internal flash. I've had a few minor issues with recordings playback and FF/REW, but these issues were down to the manufacturer's drivers and caused problems for all of the images. Mostly solved now. I use my Quad Plus as the daily main Freesat/Saorview receiver for myself and the other half. Very reliable on auto timer recordings.

Agreed, Vix is running fine on my GB Quad Plus.

For those of you running Vix, what are your preferred Skins?

    TIA
