Nice skin but I think Pli requested that the PLI HD skin be removed from all non Pli images last October.

I can only find the Pli HD Mod images, like Pli HD Night, on most download servers,Vix and Openatv.

Pli have no rites to dictate who uses the Pli HD skin, The skin is based directly on delagroov's Night HD skin, littlesat however "forgot" to keep the original authors credits as usual.

    Any other recommendations for Skins?
Family have gotten used to the OpenMips one so a similar one to that would ease the changeover...

That's a nice clean skin, IMO. The other half wants something similar to Sky, so this would fit the bill
    Do you have a link

    Hi all,

I just got this box with and extra DVB-T tuner and did a clean install of OpenVix (latest bootloader and firmware with Blue HD skin).
I plan to install an internal 1TB HDD in the next few days as well.

I was just wondering what other things I should setup for a stable setup.
I found the OnDemand Plugin for the TV players and it is going well.

I am looking for a stable setup which has 7-day EPG (with record possibility from EPG).
Also is there somewhere I can get a sensible channel arrangement for Ireland. Something that auto-updates frequencies like Freesat would be good as well.

From reading here, it looks like picons should be stored in flash memory with EPG on HDD. Is that still true?

    Any help appreciated.

I seem to have also lost the 4 screws and rubber pads that come with the box for installing the internal HDD.
Would anyone be interested in selling their set if they aren't using them?

If you have the QUAD Plus you do not have to worry about storing the EPG on a USB stick as it has loads of internal flash memory.

Regards losing the screws - make sure they are not in the box as you do not want them shorting out the board.

EPG Setup for Internal Flash. System, EPG, Settings, EPG Location (leave it at internal) Press OK.

Go down to OpenEPG. Pick Sky UK Open TV Press OK on it and Save. Go back into this again and press download.

There is a graphical interface for the full day/week etc when you press the guide button (you can edit the number of rows and colums it displays by pressing the menu button and messing with the options in there to your satisfaction).

If you dont like that interface there are other graphical interfaces in the PLUGIN feeds that will also display the 7 day EPG.

There is also a Updater for the freesat channels but I do not recommend it as it will stick 100 numbers on the channels.

I could give you mine but it would confuse you as I am in a different Saorview area. You would be quicker just setting up a favourites list with the remote. Then going into your tuners (28.2) and DVB-T and then adding the channels to favourites bouquet that you have set up. Then you can also reorder your channels in your Favourites list by enabling move mode and putting them in the order that you desire.

You can also download a channel list for 28.2 which will save you scanning. You will have to scan the Saorview Channels manually, but you can add them to your favourites list. You can also dictate a channel that always comes on on Startup.

Thanks STB. I think I'll do a full scan and manually order the channels then.
I'm guessing the less plugins I have installed, the more stable the system will be,

I'll report back in a few weeks once I have been using it for a while.

Hi folks - a couple of questions, if I may?

Do you have to import these or can you buy these in Ireland? The official Irish distributor according to the manufacturer's website says it is satellite emporium but their website doesn't seem to be working.

Will this (automatically or via a plugin) automatically follow a channel if its frequency changes, so that there is no manual rescanning/frequency modification required when a channel moves?

I know this is subjective but what is ye're opinion on this box in comparison with edision optimus OS3+ or the Vu+ Duo2 (besides the 3 v's 4 tuner thing)? Am looking to buy immediately as my existing box has just gone bang.

    Many ta's!

I don't know where you can buy these in Ireland I'm afraid.

There is a plugin called AutoBouquetMaker(ABM) that is integrated in Vix that will update channel bouquets without the need for a service scan.
You can set it to run once a day to check for changes.

The only problem is that it is only configurable for the Satellite channels only.
So you'll need to create a seperate Saorview Bouquet.

What I have done is set ABM to automate the satellite bouquets based on Freesat channels.
I have then setup a favourites list which is an amalgamation of the Saorview bouquet at the start followed by all the Freesat bouquets.
This results in the Saorview channels having numbers 1,2,3 etc. and the Freesat channels starting at 101,102,103, etc.

I believe this setup should result in all the satellite channels getting updated automatically.
If the Saorview frequencies were to change, I believe a rescan would be required but this hasn't happened yet.

You can manually update bouquet lists easily via a web browser with OpenWebif in Vix.

I've never used the Vu+ or OS3+ but would say that Vix isn't supported on the OS3+ and that seems to be the best image for the Irish market. The OS3+ boards thread seems to be full of problems with OpenATV and that put me off it.
Vix is supported for the Vu+ and this box is likely to be the best supported box but costs a good but more.

Many thanks for the info, Dubrov.

This does look like a good box, especially with the updated spec in the plus version, and most of the reviews on the 'net are very positive also.

Have sent an email off to the Irish distributor asking where I can get it here, but as their website points to a generic "you have setup your website correctly" type message, I am not going to hold my breath that there is a professional network importing and supporting this in Ireland. I assume that you had to import yours?

Can I ask where you bought it and was there any hassle getting it into Ireland? Have tried the usual places - Amazon have it with a couple of marketplace sellers but don't deliver to Ireland (and they look like they are sending it from Germany anyway), but ParcelMotel could sort that, so that might be the easiest place to get it from.

    Ta.

I was actually going to pull the trigger on this site:
    http://www.satshop.tv/GigaBlue-HD-Quad-Plus-Linux-PVR-HDTV-Receiver

...but then saw an "as new" second hand one for about half price on donedeal.

It had OpenATV installed when I got it so maybe the seller experienced some problems using that image.
Vix seems fine so far though.

The amazon sellers you referenced seems like a better deal.
You could always go direct to one of them and I'm sure they would deliver to Ireland.
For example, the following is one of the Amazon sellers that deliver direct to Ireland for €20 delivery.

    http://www.satkontor.de/index.php?cl=details&cnid=e58b57d233e8de3a196a4b002e2e4&anid=832af0d8d476c5252422d739a596b0ec&listtype=search&searchparam=gigablue%20quad%20hd%20plus&&#

Remember, it only comes with a twin DVB-S2 tuner as standard so you'll need to buy at least one additional DVB-T tuner for Saorview.
I'd also recommend getting an internal 2.5" hard drive as it is likely to lead to less issues than an external one.
Both the hard drive and additional tuner are very easy to install

I can recommend Abel.tv in Germany, Shipped my Gigablue Quad to Ireland for €12-€14 if I remember right. Excellent customer service when the first one needed to be exchanged.

Go for the DVB-T2 tuner for future proofing Saorview or getting Northern channels in HD.

I bought mine here but they don't seem to have them any more.
I got a T2 tuner fitted extra when I bought it.
I also fitted a 2.5" internal hard drive as well.
    Easy to fit.

Does anybody happen to know the Remote Control code for a Universal Remote so that I can control the Gigablue with it??

Here is the remote manual that has all the codes

    http://www.gigablue.de/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/HDQUADPLUSUniversalRemoteControllerManual.pdf

Edit: Actually I think I misunderstood.
You want the code for a generic universal remote. That depends on the brand and I'd say most only support TVs.

I got myself one of these boxes but it's remote control is breaking my heart and I've just had nothing but frustration out of it. When I use the remote out of the box, it interferes with the TV (eg: If I press CH^, the tv responds by going mute. Another example would be the box not responding when using the remote- eg I go into the recorded programs and try to press >II on the remote to watch an episode of MOTD. It doesn't carry out any function, just get a pop up icon with a circle with a slash. This is the case for half the small buttons on the remote above the guide button.

I can upload a video if that would be of any help as I may not be describing myself very well.

Can someone help?! It's annoying the tits off me that after doing a load of careful research on E2 boxes, I decided this was the best buy only to be left tearing my hair out over a poxy remote control issue.

PS: Just in case anyone suggests, I had pressed the GIGA mode on the top left of the remote before proceeding to get it to communicate with the box as it should. I have googled for help but it doesn't seem to be a common complaint so I'm stumped!

I dont have that box but I think your remote is the universal type ie it will control tv as well as box. What you can try is do a reset of the remote and just use it for box or make it control tv.

NB The best tip is replace the batteries that came with it with high power ultra duracell, it may seem daft but I have always put in better batteries and noticed the difference. You may also try another image, I think openatv is best image for gigablue.

Its a tricky problem and could be a dud remote.

It sounds very like you have somehow managed to remap some of the keys on the remote in the E2 software.

If you have only pressed the Giga button then the commands should only go to the Giga, not the TV. Same with Pressing the TV button.

I would re-image this. Try Open ATV. It has extended options over OpenVix to re-program certain keys built in, if the small ones are annoying you

Just a thought, but it may be due to HDMI-CEC. It allows your Gigablue to control your TV via HDMI. Sometimes the communication doesn't work well between certain models.
You can disable it in the TV and/or Gigablue menu.

Failing that, I'd try and reflash the firmware.

Sorry for the late reply! Thanks you guys for taking the time out to post possible solutions. I've really not had the chance to sit down and play around with the box only until the last couple of days.

I tried changing batteries and flashing various images but to no avail. I asked the online store if a wireless remote control would help but they replied to say the problem would still persist.

According to the online store I bought it from, they think its an RC5 control issue and the only solution is to either get rid of the box or the tv, one or the other.

Thanks. I did try disabling the HDMI-CEC but no luck.

Some of the niggly problems remain (ie: pressing CH^ sees the TV responding by going mute; when I want to change the subtitle selection and press OPTION, the tv responds by switching its own source (I've since remapped the blue button to act as the subtitle option button) however somehow (and I don't know this happened!!) the TV no longer responds when I press >II which was a previous complaint.

All in all, the problem is bearable now and no longer continues to wreck my head. Indeed I could get rid of either the tv or the box but I don't have the money now to replace either :o
