Yes 2x DVB-S2 and DVB-T tuners (not T2). Solid and stable as regards tuning, recording. No timers missed. Timeshift works very well. My HDD is normally suspended (I don't run permanent timeshift). So when I press pause, there is a slight delay (maybe 1-2 seconds) while the disk spins up and it goes into pause. After that it works away great, unlike timeshift in xbmc (which I was using up to now for Saorview) which is glitchy and doesn't like fast forward/rewind. I had been using a USB tuner with openelec/xbmc and it didn't always recover properly from suspend, so I used to miss programmes set to record occasionally. No such issues with the on-board tuners. There has been a series of issues with some of the recent builds of ViX Apollo, some down to driver problem, some down to OE-alliance image merges. Affecting different boxes differently. The Quad/Quad Plus have an issue with the latest build 015 which has caused the LCD on the box to be stuck on displaying the live tv image instead of the skin channel information, picons etc. This is again down to code merges from OE-alliance. The standard ViX image is very clean and lightweight, whereas others, like OpenATV for example, have lots of additional plug-ins installed which might make them a bit "bloaty". The difficulty for Andy, who develops ViX, is to keep the image lightweight while all around him other alliance images are going for more and more functionality.
The major advantage of ViX, in my opinion, is the fact that it is pretty much localised for the UK/Ireland environment and there are good plugins available and plenty of support.

Where did you get the specs for the BCM7356? Do you have a link? I looked for specs months ago and came up blank. If it genuinely handles multichannel FLAC input it would be good. It needs to support 88kHz and 96kHz input, though. Evrything seems to get transcoded to 48kHz PCM output when you set "Multichannel PCM" on in the sound menu. Any input at the high bit rates stutters. Handles DD 5.1 or DTS ok, but these are compressed 48kHz in any case. It can transfer these soundtracks as bitstreams to my AV amp. So, it's really just affecting my high-bitrate music stuff. I'll check out with GB in Germany, but I think Andy is slowing down his development involvement in ViX so I don't think there will be much more to come on that image. It's very stable, though, and ultra reliable for recordings. The 7 day EPG works with Freesat and Saorview straight out of the box.

I dont have the broadcom specsheets. They dont actually release them. Any actually in the public domain are old ones. I got the codecs supported from a VU site. The Vu+ Solo2 use the same chipset.

There is a discussion about this on OpenATV for the Vu Solo2, but its in German. The jist is since the move over to OE it stopped working (but works from the original images).

Depending on how many plugins you have loaded the memory can be eaten up very quickly, even with 1gig of ram.

The main reason I have a permanent usb stick is for the epg data and picons. You do not want them on your internal flash. Also its a petty hate of mine to have an internal hard drive being accessed and spinning unnecessarily. The Picons and epg data re-writing is grand on an EXT4 stick.

You'd only be making partitions on a HDD otherwise. EVeryone to their own.

Housing the EPG on a internal HDD wont cause it to spin up as like a channel list (bouquet), this data is held in live memory and only saved to or read from the storage device at boot up and shut down. Picons however will cause the HDD to spin up when ever you change channel, but on a receiver with a large amount of ram such as the gigablue quad saving them to the flash is perfectly fine.

Andy is slowing down development for health reasons but thats mainly just for new development and features, he is still providing bug fixes etc. Alas though he is the only full time coder for ViX, even so it would not hurt any thing to curtail feature development in favor of stability and bug fixes.

Quick question for anyone running the latest version of Openmips, where is the option to reduce the size of the On Screen Graphics? Looked everywhere and can't find it...

EDIT: Found it! It's actually a Plugin option!

Definitely agree. Stability first.. Features after...
Thing is that its gone really quiet in that space since the recent change in encryption so there probably isn't the demand for new features anyway...
Most discussions on VIX nowadays is on Cable and terrestrial tuners, not much use to us in Ireland....

On the public forum maybe, but at least two thirds of the posts made each day are in the closed dev sections and very little of those are related to cable. Granted this is not going to mean any thing to the general public but thats how it has always been on the ViX boards.

Thanks @STB. My Quad is in the bedroom with no network access. I swiped the "on demand" wifi dongle from my SKY box and attached it to the Quad and got the network going. Used Dreamboxedit to download the bouquet listings and edited out the spurious stuff. Will play with plugins manyana!

I did hit an issue with scanning in the muxes on DVB-T. Would scan in either local mux 1 or mux 2, but not both. Didn't matter whether I set clear or not. Did a full auto scan and produced spurious settings at 50MhZ! i recall seeing other postings regarding DVB-T issues and will check in the morning. Nothing overly serious, though. It's recording ok and I'm able to use FTP and Samba and Dreamboxit edit so mostly ok so far.

@fat-tony: Just after getting the GigaBlue Quad Plus and have flashed with the lastest OpenVix. I plugged in my Sky "on demand" dongle into one of the USB's at the back of the unit. But it still tells me I have no network connection. The is light at the front of the dongle. Is there something extra I need to do in order for the box to use the "on demand" dongle to establish an internet connection? Any help greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know how to, or can send me, a bouquet that will give me all of the Scottish channels with available HD channels such as BBC, ESPN, BT Sport, but will not include the other HD channels I can no longer get such as Sky Sports HD, MOvies HD etc. Its annoying having to scroll past them.

    Im using OpenVix on a Vu+ Duo2.

I did a manual scan and got a change list, as I had no internet connection. I have now used the AutoBouquets to do a scan. But the channel listing have not changed after I have done the AutoBouquets scan. Is there some setting I am missing in order to overwrite the original scan?

What sat are you tuned into - is it just Astra 28?

When you say AutoBouquets do you mean AutoBouquet Maker or AutoBouquets E2?

I read this a couple of times and the penny has only just dropped ;)
My "On Demand" unit is one of the older ones and plugs into the ethernet port and is not a USB device. I would guess that the GB Quad Plus wouldn't have the drivers for the USB version.

After you run ABM you need to press the bouquets key and you will see the coloured icons on the bottom of the screen. Press blue and you will see the list of favourite bouquets, including the Freesat and SKY bouquets generated by ABM. Just select the one you want. Your manually scanned bouquets will be under "satellites" (even the terrestrial scans!) which is selected by pressing the green key. I'm using a Logitech Harmony remote so my button mappings will be different, but the colour keys are the same.

@fat-tony another quick one, would you recommend I go for an internal or external hard drive for recording? If I go for the internal option do I need a 3.5" or a 2.5" or does it matter?

Internal is always better in general as its faster and less issues with mounting (recognition of the drive by the box) which is sometimes fiddly with external.

Gigablue Quad boxes use 2.5" drives (at least the old quad did - presume the new one is the same)

Apologies - I'm only on boards intermittently. As @slegs says - internal is best and 2.5" is the only size that will fit. Quieter too - can't hear mine unless I'm right beside the box.

I have flashed my GigaBlue with OpenVix 024. I have noticed that the audio on some channels is not correct. Its mainly the music channels. There is audio but it does not reflect what is on the screen. Has anyone seen anything like this before?

Very common thing to happen, I have the following in my notes for every time I flash a new image, just find this option in your Settings
Auto Language selection > 1,2,3,4 set to English

And yes, if you go into the internet settings in the menu (don't have the box in front of me so cant tell you exactly) you can add VPN/DNS IP addys. or I guess you can add them directly into your router.

Afternoon lad,s yes tsmedia is like a swiss army knife for all your viewing needs this is well better then the xbmc addons plugin as mfaraj57 has ported these over ,i have to be careful as i,ll get a smack on the hand or a ban by mods ,iba check it out it,s in exstensions on the offical vix feed if you don,t like it you can always uninstall it and as for ondemand install this then goto plugins you,ll see it in the list press ok on that ,then when you see the list rte tv3 etc press the menu button on the remote settings list will come up for ondemand then goto the stream quality and change it to high you can also remove bbc itv ch4 from the list and look down the end the setting page the vix boys have other setting there aswell for vpn regards bored_stupid
