Paddy Power giving 8/11 that McCoy will ride Carlingford Lough in the Gold Cup over Holywell (Evs). Am I missing something or is that a great price? McManus will insist that McCoy rides his horse.

    Jesus great spot.
Said after the Hennessy it's upto JP afaik so surely that decision has been made.

8/11 Carlingford Lough runs then surely?
McManus not the sentimental sort that will let McCoy get up on Holywell?
Or is the price too good to be true?

Can't post a link for some reason, its under horse racing specials.
Bet void if both don't run...

Rule 4 doesnt apply to the 4 Championship Races, my understanding of rule 4 was it came into play once the betting was NRNB / after final decs.

    Time to get betting so

PP cut Holywell by 1 points into 7/1 today while they pushed Carlingford Lough out 2 points to 10/1. Coincidence?

After all McCoy has done for him do you really think JP is the type of man to insist he rides his horse? He doesn't need the win/money and I'd hazard a guess to JP would put AP winning over his own success. You must remember he had Sunnyhillboy pulled on the morning of the race two years ago just so AP could get on the fancied Sir Des Champs. The fact Holywell is also trained by his main trainer and friend Jonjo wouldn't make it a surprise at all. AP will pick whichever one he wants and I'd say they've it priced just about right

Might Mc Lernon be a factor too? He has twice piloted him to victory at Cheltenham so connections might stay loyal or if AP picks Holywell Mc Lernon loses out having a ride in the race.

Mc Coy said Holywell was a gold cup horse or something to that effect the other day

Looks the correct pricing, and I think most would pick Holywell over CL.

You would wonder though, it's a very specific special so perhaps there have been murmurs.

But didn't AP ride Taquin de Seul ahead of JPs Uxizandre un last years JLT???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,101 ✭✭✭klairondavis

Holywell is owned by Derrick Smith's wife. Given JP's Coolmore connections, it would not be a major surprise if he did offer McCoy the choice if both horses run.

14/1 Windsor park for the Albert Bartlett is tempting but as meeting is earlier this year will wait for ground conditions.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,370 ✭✭✭rossom

That 8/11 for McCoy to ride CL in the Gold Cup is a banker. The only way he wouldn't ride him is if he doesn't run.

Uxizandre was a 33/1 shot last year hence why McCoy was on TDS.

Either way, this is the Gold Cup and Carlingford Lough is definitely a horse that you'd expect would have a live chance. McManus will definitely not let McCoy ride Holywell.

Any other sites doing daily countdowns yet. Some of them are not great but the 22/1 on PP is alright today.

McCoy has talked openly about his love for Carlingford Lough for a long long time. Also add in the fact it's his last Gold Cup, anyone who believes he won't ride I the McManus colours in his last gold cup & possibly last race in Cheltenham need their head checked. A friend of mine spoke with Kiely after the Lexus & they think he's got a right chance of winning the the Gold Cup. They felt he left the RSA behind him last year but Kiely said that they possibly ran him too much last year & he was a tired horse going to Cheltenham.

Bar one going 12/1 for Mc Coy to win the National,if shutthefrontdoor gets well treated by Phil Smith next week he could go off as one of the shortest priced favourites of all time in the race. Even if he doesn't i'd suspect whatever mount Mc Coy gets will be single figures with retirement imminent, back him to lay, easy way to get a free bet if anyone interested.

Because he beat Somersby and a horse who was coming back off a very long absence??

I don't rate DB at all tbh, would rather back Champagne Fever.

Bit harsh. He beat a good yard stick in Somersby in the Tingle Creek and then improved even further in his last run in beating SS. Hes certainly a much animal this year. Started of the year rated 155 and is now 171.

Somersby was 2nd in this race last year so I think he could place again at massive odds especially with question marks over most of the market leaders.

Its a pity what happened Oscar Whiskey because I think he could of ran a cracker in this race.

he's one of the most over-hyped horses there is imo
hope he goes off a stupid short price, will be place laying him all day long

Champagne Fever should be sent back over hurdles imo. Not good enough over the bigger obstacles, will always find a 1 or 2 too good for him in the Championship races. Beaten by a 135 rated animal over C+D in the Arkle not a chance this horse is winning a Champion Chase.

I find it ridiculous to think he should be sent back over hurdles. Watching him jump fences is one of the attractions with him .... he stands off a mile. I thought his round of jumping in last year's Arkle was outstanding. He's been unlucky in a way as the two mistakes he's made have left him riderless plus with the benefit of hindsight, I think everyone can say he could have been campaigned better this season.

I think the two F's to his name do him an injustice as he really is one of those extravagant jumpers that are exciting to watch.

I'd prefer to see him in the Ryanair as he stays that trip well, and his jumping would be a huge asset. But I think he'd be versatile enough to get involved in this year's Champion Chase.

People are saying Dodging Bullets looks a new horse etc, there is something about him I'll never warm to. Two seasons as a novice hurdler, he should have been competitive in his second Supreme with his experience and he ran muck. He's disappointed at every Festival he's turned up at, lest not forget he looked good last season too as a novice before he blew up. I wouldn't be putting a huge amount of faith in him. There's something about flat breds over fences in particular at the festival I'm somewhat skeptical about

Spot on. He's shortened to 4/1 in last few days after Nicholls said he should be fav at a Preview after Ascot on Saturday. Along with another flat bred Parlour Games, I think he's set to be one of the worst bets of the festival. Everyone seems to be of the opinion that Nicholls has turned him inside out but given, as you say, he's shown plenty before the Spring before, he's still got it all to prove. Even aside from that and regardless if Sprinter Sacre is back or not, Dodging Bullets was at it a fair way out last time and I'd be amazed if he travelled well enough in a race of Championship pace to figure. Know it's a cliche but Nicholls, with a championship in mind, would have known he could make hay with a fit horse in the division pre festival but I'd be amazed if better ground, a stronger pace and classier horses didn't leave him trailing come March.

The more I look at road to riches, the more I fancy him for the gold cup.

Re flat breds, I swore never again after getting caught up in Minsk hysteria, last year I let my mates dad who is a very astute judge convince me to back Broughton.

He also said Zarkandar should be favourite for the World, seriously deluded on both counts Mr N

I like nicholls,he comes across as fairly honest compared to some trainers like McCain. However I have noted especially in the last couple of years at festivel previews he does over talk his horses chances up.Didnt he only have one winner last year and it was in a handicapp?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 314 ✭✭ON ZEE BRIDLE

One i really like this years and its not a race I'd normally bet on is Moonracer in the bumper. This lad hosed up by 12 lenghts at Cheltenham in October and has been put away for the big un next month. Also won the Goffs bumper at Fairyhouse last year beating a few decent types in the process.Formerly with Willie Mullins and now with David Pipe this fella has a serious and is my ew bet of the festivel at 14s

I'm hearing about the Paddy Power daily 25 day countdown specials but I can't see any mention of them anywhere on the site. Does anyone know where they are available to view?
