I just heard the Waterford unit pass over Cork and double checked on Marine traffic.....does anyone know what happened? 117 seems to be refuelling at Cork airport, must be a bit of a trip out west ahead of them.

    It has diverted.

    It needs fuel.

The a319 has limited fuel capability from my understanding, and with a strong northerly wind it can run out of fuel. You wouldn't get an a319 from ACE-BHD or BFS.

Its happened twice already this year that it had to divert to faro. Its off again anyway.

It happens a good few times a year on that route.

There was a thread about it recently but I can't seem to find it.

I seen in that article someone mentioning the runway size of ACE as a factor. This confuses me as I have seen 747's land at ACE.

    The Aer Lingus A319s ( EI-EPR / S / T /U ) are all rated at the lowest MTOW for the type, 64 tonnes.

That's a significant saving on intra-Europe routes but sacrifices 10 tonnes of potential fuel or load on longer routes.

For references, their A320s have the standard MTOW rating for that type of 73.5 tonnes and the A321s have one of the higher options, 85 tonnes ( though with the B3 engines they could have gone for 89 tonnes ).

More down to performance issues departing off runway 03 due to high terrain, can be limiting to A320/321 trying to make it back to DUB hence the occasional stop in FAO.

Its actually going to Shannon, and its an a319
The a320 going from ACE-DUB is right behind the a319 going from FAO-SNN and that didn't stop.

    Oh, I didn't realise that.
In fairness, lanzarote get a northerly wind 95% of the time, so its a problem that should be resolved now.

Hey lads, just got the fr24 app. It's very cool. Anyone know what's going on with the glex southwest of Kabul (ghazni) , it's been doing circles for 2 days now Vs301 has just had adjust course to avoid the area. Probably mitary, AWACS ?

Did it have a callsign like VELCRO?

Probably one of the four BACN E-11s which orbit to provide a sort of low-altitude SATCOM for units deep in valleys.

They tend to operate on one-year detachments to Afghanistan, latest change-over was last week.

    Ei3729 go-around at cork.

Edit: It appears to be approaching the runway from the opposite end, along with another stobart behind it. The winds must have changed.

Yeah did it actually make an approach the first time? Or was it going round that way to position for approach?
