If anyone thinks its that hard to play in the premier league (which it is) should look up a player by the name of Ali Dia ;)

Bangkok said it on the last page or 2. Gerrard and Ward-Prowse are the 2 best in the league according to him.

He is better than di Maria as well.

We jus explained to you it's not exactly simple.

Cop on and take other factors into consideration.

Well it's not exactly rocket science.

He's not world class at taking corners.

forgot about him, but if you had gerrard or ward prowse taking corners for Chelsea id would say they would have an even higher goal return....

Terry, Ivanovic, Cahill, Zouma, Matic, Drogba, Costa all 6 foot plus and attack the ball with serious power

No he doesn't. Have you watched him the last 3-4 years? His delivery is shocking. He is still ok on direct free kicks but he has much better delivery on a moving ball. For all Gerrards attributes through the years, his set piece delivery is the one that diminished before the others.

Anyway I won't post on this topic again as it doesn't relate to utd so if you have anything else to say, take it over to the Liverpool thread.

So you do realise there are mitigating factors and it's not just a case of beating the first man?

It's still early in the morning, I'm sure someone is going to pull you up on the under 21 cap by the end of the day :D

It was probably for the Irish U21 homeless, one-legged, dwarf reserves.

I'm tired of this crap. I really am a masochist when it comes to these debates.

    I'll set a reminder doc

I'm stunned - I don't know how to answer this.

What I'll say is: I can do it, therefore a professional footballer can do it.

I took corner kicks for years and 9 times out of 10 put in a good ball. The key for me was pace, whip and always aiming for the ball to be landing just shy of the 6 yard line on the back post

I played against Cork City. That doesn't mean sh!t in relation to ADM and his corner taking ability.

So I think it was me that accidentally started this "I played for..." crap.

Just to clarify what I meant was that if someone as crap as me can cross a ball all the way into a penalty box, then Angel Di Maria should be able to too.

I played for United in a CL final.

He can, do you think he hasn't got the power to reach that far or something?

I played for Barca, unlucky mate. I was the little fella that scored the header.

He can? Gosh I'd love to see him do it some time! (and then regularly)

While I agree that corners are not important for scoring goals and with the opinion that's it's silly to compare your-amateur-self to professional footballers, I think it is true that these near post corners look unusually bad. I can understand why people would think they could do better, when they think the aim is to get it over the first man. The important point they are missing, though, is the fact that the United corner takers are hitting the first man so much only because that is where they've been told to aim the corner.

The big question for me is, why have the corner takers been told to aim for near post flick-ons every single time? It doesn't look in any way more effective for scoring goals.

they def don't put every corner near post, when jones was taking corners at qpr and Cambridge he was putting them right into the 6 yard box and rooney and di maria were putting them in deep or middle v west ham. Di Maria even managed to put one on top of the net v West Ham

I'd say it's at least three quarters of the time that they do. Maybe it's been changing in recent weeks and I haven't noticed.

Reus has signed a new contract with Dortmund, presumably meaning his much touted low release clause is gone, short of relegation. Could still see him leaving Dortmund but probably for a lot more than was thought.

Got to credit him for his loyalty. I'm sure many would have thought that he would bail on them especially with the position the club are in now, but I guess he wants to work on bringing them back up

he could still leave and be just doing this to make sure Dortmund make more money from him.

Wilfried Bony signed a new 5 year contract 6 weeks before he signed for city
